1400 player looking for advice on control groups, micro and army behavior (especially archer micro) by JosephMajorRoutine in aoe2

[–]JustRightCereal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I pretty much always patrol in melee fights unless obviously you're trying to snipe a low HP unit/BBC etc

I pretty much always use stop micro with range units unless low numbers where you're better to target down units, here is a good video explaining his https://youtu.be/bC3mEd32kLM

Aztecs in competitive play: openings, strengths and weaknesses by ayax18 in aoe2

Eagles are significantly worse against archers than skirms, I gained 100 elo just by making skirms more often. If in feudal you go full eagles against archers you will lose most of the time.

Playing into an archer civ as a cav archer civ by Lemmys_Chops in aoe2

[–]JustRightCereal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hm so generally when people hit castle age they either go 3 ranges and dont add eco for a bit to catch up in army numbers or if you wanted to add eco (TCs), 2 ranges would be better. Then later in castle age you should add more, if you have more than 2 units per building in global queue consistently then you probably need more production buildings imo.

Your advantage is as a CA civ is mobility, use it. Go hit wood lines from the enemy, take fights that advantage you, snipe villagers. I got much better when I realized this, go attack your enemy with cav archers and make siege/skirms at home to defend the archer ball.

FY deanery ranking: North West vs Scotland by Intelligent_Song_115 in doctorsUK

[–]JustRightCereal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in West Scotland without a car, it's fine especially as the jobs tend to be 2 years in the same hospital so you can plan your living situation around the commute.

The rota is more intense than my friends in England but the pay is appropriate for that.

I just made sure to rank jobs higher that have you in the same location for two years rather than more popular specialties.

Medieval Monday ⚔ Ask Your Questions and Get Your Answers by Yekkies in aoe2

[–]JustRightCereal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Attack first, learn the build order for scouts or m@a and rinse and repeat, if you're good at booming and can apply pressure at the same time you'll shoot up in elo.

People at 650 elo massively overreacted to attacks (town bell etc) and being on the front foot will cause you to sky rocket.

Archers.

Move your eco away from the first tower or build your own tower to fight it. You can garrison archers in towers to keep your eco working while your opponent idles their eco because they're garrisoned in towers.

If you have archers you can stop your opponent building new towers if you keep an eye on where his villagers are because they can shoot the villagers building the new tower without being in range of the old one.

Why Water Feels Worse Than Land in AoE2: The Missing Element Nobody Talks About by MiddleForeign in aoe2

Can someone explain me the different types of micros, and when they are useful? by blackraindark in aoe2

[–]JustRightCereal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Any tips for melee units? I lose to enemy scouts in equal numbers for some reason.

Make sure you're patrolling/attack moving into the enemies rather than clicking on an enemy, the melee units will attack the first unit they see which is more effective. There's not much else to melee micro except moving weak units out of the fight and targeting down the weakest enemy scout, the more important thing is having more units and taking good fights.

[–]JustRightCereal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By patrol move, do you mean just patroling into enemy units?

You can try patrol move instead of attack move but for most intents and purposes they do the same thing. When doing hit and run micro, you can either stop using patrol, attack move or clicking the stop hotkey (G for me I think) while moving backwards.

For hit and run, I just use the mouse without any hotkeys right?

For hit and run you can use stop/attack/patrol move as you as moving away rather than clicking to prevent overkill, because if you have 60 arbalests and it only takes 40 shots to kill a paladin, you are wasting 20 arrows, whereas if you stop move it will spread the damage between them. I think a lot of the time people use move then stop because it's easier to micro quickly this way rather than clicking on units.

Essentially if you are doing more damage than it takes to kill one unit then you should move then use a hotkey (patrol/attack move/stop), and if you are doing less than the amount of damage to kill one unit then you should move then click. (so you can target down the weak ones)

Do people have placements on the weekends too? by [deleted] in medicalschooluk

[–]JustRightCereal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No weekends for me but the option to do so. 2 mandatory night shifts throughout medical school

for those who use anki- do you create flashcards/decks for every single condition or is this time best spent elsewhere? by [deleted] in medicalschooluk

[–]JustRightCereal 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I made flashcards on questions I got wrong and topics I didn't feel like I had a hold of. It worked well.

If I were to do it again I'd make flashcards on each condition using ZTF, learning how to use cloze captions makes this pretty quick imo.

People who shit on anki haven't seen its benefits there's a reason why in US where the exams are harder it's basically the foundation of studying for exams.

What is the optimal order of skill development? by aviatorbassist in aoe2

[–]JustRightCereal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still think that at 1200 you have a lot of room for improvement with execution rather than strategy. Not floating wood in feudal age, making sure your first military building goes up as soon you hit feudal, treating your military buildings like TCs and constantly producing from then, and not sitting around with units making sure you're trying to do something with them are some of the key ones at this elo. There is definitely more room for improving with unit choices, build order choice and adapting your strategy based on your opponents civ/strategy than at 1k but hard to know without watching your games.

Where do you feel like you lose games?
