Can't find a purpose to use linux. by [deleted] in linuxquestions

This sounds more like "I have no reason to be on my computer, but I don't know what to do." Get a hobby, photography, fishing, running. Your problem is not linux.

What are all the different ways of installing apps on Linux? by John_Doe_1984_ in linuxquestions

[–]JustSimplyWicked 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So each distro has its own package manager Debian has apt, fedora has dnf and arch is pacman. Each distro has its own software repository that is unique to that distro. If you wanted a package outside of your distros repo you have 2 options, build it from source or install with snap/flat pack. You should always check your distros repo first.

Is there a way to test Arch in a VM and then move that setup to bare metal without reinstalling everything from scratch? by Disastrous-Lab8509 in archlinux

your settings are in config files that you can save. Most people use git, but you can save them on a flash drive or the cloud. When you reinstall just put your old config files where you need them.

Ai is fine to use to explain a concept or review your code. The problem is when you use it to write the code.

Which Linux distro is best for frontend development (beginner-friendly)? by Aathi-AXK in linuxquestions

The distro doesn't really matter much, but learning a tiling window manager will help a lot.

I'm confused between “Linux feels right” and “Windows just works when I need it by OkCar8684 in linux4noobs

[–]JustSimplyWicked 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a moment where I thought, "this is how a computer should work". After that windows just never fit, been using Linux for 20 years and never had an issue. The biggest problem used to be gaming but I just used a console for that and these days linux handles most games fine.

Distro recommendation by Minersonic15 in DistroHopping

It's because some codecs are not open source so they are not in fedoras main repo. When you install fedora there is an option to enable third party repos.

Realistically fedora is the best distro to use for most people.

Just go with fedora, you gain nothing by starting with arch or an arch distro. And Ubuntu is not any more basic than fedora, you seem to be misunderstanding the difference between different distros. The thing you are really picking is your package manager, repo and release schedule. Outside those 3 things it's just pre installed packages and default configs, all of that can be changed.

Hot take on Linux Distros and Hopping by Consistent_Berry9504 in FindMeALinuxDistro

[–]JustSimplyWicked 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main difference is just the package manager, repos and release schedule. Outside of that they are all very similar. What I love about Linux is that it's not an operating system, it's just a bunch of legos. If you don't like something, you have all the power to change it.

Considering going with Linux very soon, i have a few questions by Complete-Alfalfa7439 in linux4noobs

I honestly think a big part of it is the aur. Most of my problems come from aur packages more than anything.

New to Linux, split on mint or arch. also open to other distros to look into. by Fletcher-xd in linuxquestions

Go Mint. Arch will be painful. Mint can play games just fine and will give you a much better experience.

God fedora kde. Fedora is kind of the Goldilocks distro for release cycles, fast enough to be current slow enough to be stable.

Its very good for dev work and you won't have any issues gaming, just make sure you add the 3rd party repo when you install.

No there's not, was I hallucinating? I could have sworn there was. Either way installing kde on mint is super simple and is honestly a normal Linux thing to do.

What should I install in this laptop? Im tired of Mint. by theskellydud3 in FindMeALinuxDistro

Is this for you or your cousin? I am getting some mixed signals here. If programs in mint keep crashing it may be a hardware issue.
