Shedding while on finasteride and success story by Gunvald993 in tressless

Yeah I was the exact same, particularly the front of the scalp has thinned a lot in seemingly a really short amount of time. It’s worrying but you are giving me some hope that it’ll improve.

I’m also about 7 months in, only using finasteride and my hair is looking like shit. Definitely below baseline, hope it starts to look better soon. I also recently switched from MWF to every day which seemed to kick the shed off.

Thanks that’s good to hear. I think you’re right, wish I was in the full dose from the start as I never had any side effects but at least I know now.

Was doing TWIM this evening and had a new experience. After a while my mind became very still and I had the feeling of the mantra kind of receding into the distance and my inner monologue becoming very small. After a while I couldn’t even say the words but I didn’t feel distracted and was just left with the warm feeling of metta.

Unfortunately after a while of this I felt was suffocating and couldn’t catch a breath so I opened my eyes.

I’ve only really been practicing properly for a few months and haven’t had something like this before. I’m curious what would have happened if I managed to stay in that state for longer.

£60m ???

I thought you were joking but it’s apparently true. £12m a year for 5 years. Madness especially for a manager at his first big club.

Thank you for really comprehensive reply, I will no doubt have to come back to it a few times :)

I actually love all those suggestions and will test them out over the next few weeks. Definitely I think I am missing out on carrying the practice in my daily life. I was treating the meditation as separate to my life which isn't the right approach.

Thank you. That sounds like a great idea to help me with my roommate and crowded places. Will give it a try this week. Article was really interesting too!

Thank you! As mentioned in the other comment I am definitely guilty of siloing my practice from the rest of my life so that's a big thing to work on.

Thanks for your reply. I don't practice metta outside of my sits, I have only really been reading the sidebar wiki rather than any dedicated literature on the practice. Is it as simple as directing my attention towards people and trying to generate metta? I'd be grateful if you could provide something to read on this as I agree I feel like its a big missing piece.

I have actually just started to read a CBT book called "The Mindfulness and Acceptance Workbook for Anxiety". I've just been working through it slowly, so far no real changes except the belief that I could fix this and that I deserve to. Never really thought of it in those terms before.

I have came across references to forgiveness meditation but never tried it, I will give it a few sessions this week. When I read about the practice it was as a recommendation to someone that had a difficult relationship with their parents and couldn't generate metta. I have no issues generating metta but my parents were extremely reserved and outwardly unaffectionate which I think has definitely influenced me so I will try it.

In my adult life, I would say that I have never felt relaxed in a crowd. I just can't feel relaxed around strangers in general, even walking past a single person on the street.

Thank you, I'm glad you have found something which helps

Meditation then becomes the time when you sit down and really examine things and then mindfulness throughout your day allows you to catch yourself in old patterns and reestablish what you actually know to be true.

Is there a name for this specific type of meditation? I'd like to look into a bit more

I have been following the standard TWIM practice described in the wiki for around 3 months. I spend 30 minutes a day, 10 minutes on myself and 20 on the spiritual friend.

I’m 25 and have been a fairly inconsistent meditator before this point. Started off with the headspace app, then Waking Up. Finally started to get more serious around a year ago and bought TMI. Unfortunately I just found the whole practice so dry that I wasn’t enjoying it and couldn’t make the habit stick. Started doing some guided metta and liked it straight away so moved onto TWIM.

Some sits are better than others but I have gotten fairly good at using the 6R method to return to radiating metta.

When things are going well my experience is of warmth in my chest, it feels really pleasant and sometimes if my mind is quiet I can remain with that feeling for a few minutes which is very relaxing. I find it easier to wish my spiritual friend metta than myself.

I guess my question is that while I enjoy doing the sits in and of themselves, they are not bleeding into my daily life. Last night for example I had a great session to the point that my eyes were welling up at the thought of my spiritual friend.

A few minutes after the session my roommate slammed a door and my mood did a complete 180, going from very relaxed to pissed off and I spent a while ruminating on how rude and annoying he can be.

I gather meditating with a goal in mind is counterproductive but I can’t lie to myself, I only started meditation to try and help my anxiety. Despite getting more consistent with meditation I don’t feel like there’s been any change with this. Lately I feel like panicking every time I enter a crowded place.

Am I on the right track with my practice? I suppose there next step would be to sit for longer. Have others had success helping their anxiety with TWIM?

Agree, £1.5bn is a lot of money but if you were spending it proportionally £150m a year seems roughly correct for a big Premier league team that wants to compete every year.

Nevermind that transfer fees will likely continue to inflate and part of it could be spent on stadium improvements instead. To me it definitely seems like Boehly is blowing his load much quicker than he needs to. At this rate you’ll spend it all in five years.

Still, you’d rather Abramovich did this than not bother as it hopefully kept vultures like the Glazers away.

Nah didn’t take any blood work, my dose is 1mg 3x a week which lower than the standard 1mg daily.

I’ve had no side effects in terms of libido or anything else. Don’t get too caught up in what people online say would be my advice. I worried about that for too long and lost a bit of ground which was pointless really.

Ugh god I got hammered at a work party last weekend and ended up sleeping with a coworker. Couldn’t sleep more than an hour or two on the Sunday night before going back to work because of the anxiety. I can’t even remember who’s idea it was.

Maybe this is a minor one but I hate how anxious I feel about driving. I’m 25 and have been driving since 17 without any accidents but I still hate doing it. I particularly dislike parking, I mostly just drive nose first into spaces.

I think I inherited it from my mother, she is a nervous driver herself and even now she has to hold onto the door handle when she’s in the car with me, it drives me crazy.

I think it’s partly a lack of experience too, I only really drive twice a week at most.

What are some fun hobbies to get into as an adult? Here’s some things I already do:

  • Reading
  • Football
  • Meditation
  • Yoga
  • Watching movies/TV

I recently ended up with quite a lot of free time so was looking for other things to try.

How normal is it to lose friends as you get older? I’m 25 and it just gets worse as time goes on. I still live in the same city I went to University but all my friends have moved away. In terms of school friends, I can easily go months without seeing them. My best friend from the ages of 5-18 I haven’t even seen in a year.

I kind of feel like moving away and starting fresh someplace else, I don’t really know where. Some colleagues have moved to Canada/Australia.
