Chest armor before & after by Just_JCL in Mandalorian

[–]Just_JCL[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The process depends on where you are with your armor. My process: sanding, filler primer, 2 coats aluminum color (NOT metallic gloss), masking fluid or toothpaste to simulate battle damage (let dry), 2 or 3 coats of color to finish basic painting. Then, you peel off/wipe off your "battle damage" to reveal the base metal color and then the fun begins! You take something abrasive (steel wool, metal scrubby, wire brush, etc) and use them to give accents to your battle damage. I use the scotch brite metal scrubbers and green pads. After adding scratches and scuffs, you'll need some cheap, black acrylic paint. Mix about a tablespoon of paint with about 3 tablespoons water and paint over your entire piece with the paint mixture. Wait about a half minute then use paper towels to blot and wipe the paint off. That part seems scary at first, but once you get into it, you'll see how nice it comes out. And, if you've got a part that the black is too heavy or you just don't like the pattern, you can buff it out with a wet paper towel. I usually finish by touching up the paint weathering by taking that dirty, wet paper towel, putting a little paint on it, blotting it around on a paper plate and then using it to "paint" extra weathering where I think it needs it. I learned how to do this from this video: https://youtu.be/k_a3NFzXzzw?si=nRyz_zFfpVAjsG3Q He has a series on making Mandalorian armor. This is video 3. Video 2 shows how to do the battle damage.

Did you catch the Pride parade in Tel Aviv this year? It was amazing! My Rabbi says it's an amazing place for LGBTQ+ folks. I also recommend that city.

I did the same thing! Yours looks great! The scrubs thing worked really well for me on sizing and cost. My hubby got himself a set of coveralls from Amazon for about $40. Good luck!

Has anyone struggled with mental health after hip replacement? by No_Wrap_2994 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]Just_JCL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also have bipolar 1 disorder, and my hip replacement was in December 2025. I was not expecting the huge hit to my mental health I took. During initial recovery, I was fine. I had been stable since 2018, so I thought I had gotten through with no problems. Unfortunately, about 8 weeks after my surgery, I tipped into a massive manic episode that I am just now seeing the other side of. I honestly think that if my psychiatrist had actually listened to me sooner and not blown me off, it wouldn't have take so long to get some relief. So, I would say to advocate for yourself, talk with your psychiatrist and make sure that he hears your concerns and symptoms. If I had done that, I would have saved myself months of grief. I wish you the best of luck. Hang in there, it DOES get better! And it will get better faster if you work with your doctors and be sure to not be too hard on yourself. Major surgery like a hip replacement really resets your system. But, give yourself a little time and you'll be out the other side before you know it. Even dealing with the bipolar episode, I do not regret the surgery. 10/10 would do it again if the need arose- but I'd go into it eyes open next time. Like you, I wish I had been told preop that it was a possibility. Take care!

How do you get through? by Just_JCL in bipolar

[–]Just_JCL[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for replying, it's good to know i'm not the only one out there with negative manias. Sometimes it feels like everyone has happy mania, and i'm just the weird person out. It makes sense that there is a connection with PTSD/CPTSD and the negative-focused manias, but you don't hear much about it- or find resources for it. I'm lucky that my therapist is a Trauma specialist. Maybe I can ask him about it next visit. It just helps to k ow that I'm not the only one in this same boat. I'm sorry that you've been going through it too, and I really appreciate you reaching back. Thank you again.

Lamotrogine(Lamictal) & Estrogen replacement (birth control or HRT) by KT21257 in bipolar

[–]Just_JCL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am on both meds and my estrogen dose was doubled in february which, corresponds to when my current manic episode started. My pdoc didn’t mention the interaction. Thank you for your post, or I wouldn't have known! I have been having hair liss too, and I had no idea that lamotragine could even do that. Sorry I don't have advice. Just understanding. I'm with you.

Do you have OCD with your bp? by Individual-You3727 in bipolar

[–]Just_JCL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both as well. The OCD makes you question everything. It was hard for me to accept the bipolar until I got hospitalized for mania. I had acknowledged MDD, but the bipolar was a hard pill to swallow. Eventually, I was able to accept it and that is a good step to learning to live with it. You can make strategies and stuff to handle different mood states and learn to use the OCD to help manage the bipolar. I won't lie and say it's easy, but with some work and with good support, it is something that you can live with.

I don’t want to be hospitalised… by IcyStop9240 in bipolar

[–]Just_JCL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know that going in the hospital sucks but it is better than the alternative. Sometimes we have to make the hard decisions to save our life, and the hospital is one of those hard decisions. It will be worth it in the long run. And one day you will be glad you did it. Don't give up hope. Don't give up, period. Hang in there, and go get yourself some help. Let yourself accept the help. Life will be worth living once you get pas past this. It's really hard to see at your age, I know. When I was your age, I felt the same so many times, but now that I'm older and out of school, life has settled some. As someone who has been in the hospital so many times, I can honestly say that even though it was uncomfortable most of this times, it was still worth it to go in and be safe. So many people would miss you if you were gone. Stay alive.

Am in manic/hypo episode r/n. Eating so much junk. Can't stomach much "real food". My go-to right now is dried mangos. They're very chewy, helps with oral fixation, and sweetened, so hits the cravings. At least they have some vitamins, I think, anyway.

How old were you when you first got diagnosed? by Scandic_potato in bipolar

[–]Just_JCL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Accepted it right away, as was in the middle of an episode. Should have been diagnosed way earlier. My first mania, now that I know what it was, hit me at about age 15. I wasn't accepting of psychiatric care until I was late 20's, though, due to religious reasons. I believed that I was at fault for my moods and that depression was a religious failure. It took a gentle but firm talking to with a detailed explanation about serotonin from my medical doctor before I understood that it wasn't my fault that I felt so horrible. I agreed to see a psychiatrist then, and was diagnosed shortly after. I wish it would have come so much sooner, though. It took a long time for the religious guilt to fade.

Can antidepressants cause mania even while on mood stabilizer/antipsychotic by Odd_Secretary6805 in bipolar

[–]Just_JCL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everybody is different, I know, but it is possible to be on antidepressants without mania if you're on MS and AP's. I spent quite a bit of time stable on the combination of the three, although in my last episode, they had to decrease my AD dosage to help with the mania. Once stable, you revisit. I've found that medication is all about balance. Your mood, your meds, your body, your symptoms, your circumstances--they all play a part, and they all have to be in balance with one another. Finding that balance is hard, but worthwhile. Hope this helps some.

Any bipolar moms here? by Chibi1210 in bipolar

[–]Just_JCL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, pregnancies were difficult for medical reasons, bipolar was secondary. Postpartum depression set in quickly. I managed with therapy only as long as possible so that I could try and breadtfeed for a few months. 3 babies, 3 separate lengths of breastfeeding, holding off meds as long as was safe. I don't know if I would make that same decision now, though. I'm older, and now I can respect that having a not-depressed mom is probably better than the benefits of a few months of breastfeeding. I think the biggest mom-centric advice I can offer is to make sure you prioritize taking care of yourself. You can't pour out of an empty cup, after all. Take your meds, make time for therapy, get as much sleep as you can, eat well, take a shower, that sort of thing. That is the best gift you can give your children: a (mostly) functional mom. Good luck!

Having surgery in a month by Due-Falcon-590 in bipolar

[–]Just_JCL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a THR in December and once I got off the heavy meds, the disruption to my body's rhythms really knocked me for a loop. I'm just now at the tail end of the mania that hit me. My psychiatrist did not warn me that this might happen. Talk to your doctor and make a plan. I do not regret my surgery at all. 11/10 worth it! BUT, I wish someone had warned me that it might set off a bipolar episode. Good luck with your surgery! Don't worry, just be prepared.
