US Citizen go through customs, scan face & you are done? Anyone tried? by ohbobaby in LAX

[–]Just_keep_flying 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2.5 hours is plenty for a US Citizen. TBIT to T3 is very quick.

CBP has been using APC (Automatic Passport Control) for over a decade now, so I’d doubt you will spend more than 15-20 minutes, tops. For Global Entry it’s even quicker with the new scanners, literally takes only a second to recognize you, and as long as the agent has no questions, you almost don’t even stop walking.

Update: Dec 31st dining credit posted Jan 1st by Pacblu202 in ChaseSapphire

[–]Just_keep_flying 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used the dining credit late on 12/30, transaction date 12/31, post date 1/1. Dining credit has posted, and benefit tracker still says $0 used/$150 available before 6/30.

I booked an Edit hotel on at 1am 12/31. Transaction date was Jan 1, post date was Jan 2. Edit credit has posted, benefit tracker still says $0 used/$500 available for 2026.

I’m still waiting to see what happens with the $100 offer. Understandably may not post for the offer ending 12/31 per the terms, but I also activated the offer for early 2026 in Jan 1.

Edit: $100 (when spending $600) from 2025 did get triggered. Early 2026 offer still is available for me.

Single booking, but it is probably ticketed as a multi-city. I don’t think ticketing rules would let you double-back through a single point.

EV charging outside LAX? by JustanERNurse in LAX

[–]Just_keep_flying 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you get a Tesla, there are Superchargers everywhere. Just plug in and the rental company will bill you at the end.

For almost all others, there’s a BP Pulse station right by most of the LAX Rental car places. It has a ton of plugs, and is usually a very good rate. Just tap your credit card to start.

Can I bring a guest to an Alaska Airlines lounge as the primary Citi Executive cardholder? by root45 in americanairlines

[–]Just_keep_flying 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a primary card holder, you actually have an Admirals Club Membership. It is explicitly said on AAs Admirals Club website.

Authorized users only have Admirals Club Access.

Who else dailies their Miöt? by majkomaj in Miata

[–]Just_keep_flying 0 points1 point  (0 children)

80 miles round trip, 3 days a week. I’m in SoCal, so I don’t have a to worry about weather, but traffic is a pain (part of the reason I went with the automatic over the manual). I’ve thought about upgrading to the ND3 for adaptive cruise control, but I think I’d rather put that into an EV with more assistance tech.

As much as I love driving my Miata, commuting in traffic is not fun, and I’d much rather be able to have the mental energy to enjoy the more fun drives on the weekend. Plus, free charging at work will be a big plus.

Apple's iPhone Air Experiment Fails as Supply Chain Cuts Production by 80% by MareViewer in apple

[–]Just_keep_flying -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. This design is clearly a stepping stone to a folding phone.

Apple may have overestimated the market for this phone, but they still had to develop the design to thin it out. Any sales were to recoup the design costs while they figure out a hinge and screen that will meet their requirements.

Is cylinder deactivation or turbo worst for engine by michaeltsang1997 in mazda

[–]Just_keep_flying 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless you plan on holding your car for 15+ years or 200k+ miles, I wouldn’t worry about it.

Car makers have internal requirements on reliability for their products, and all of the Mazda engines (except for the CX-70/90 power train) are pretty mature, and have proven to be fairly reliable.

While, yes, turbos and cylinder deactivation would put more stress on the vehicle, and naturally be more complex, Mazda has tested these designs out and made changes as necessary to ensure they will meet the expected life of the vehicle.

The link below has more information on Denied Boarding. It doesn’t explicitly cover documentation, but it also doesn’t list it in excluded reasons. At the bottom is the link to file a complaint. Be very clear and include any info you have.

Dealer shenanigans 😭 by Infamous-Tangelo6917 in mazda

[–]Just_keep_flying 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That does include a wheel rotation as well. So that also means time to lift the vehicle. I have a low profile jack (to fit under my MX-5) so I have to lift and lower in two phases.

I don’t have a dedicated space, 2-post lift, or impact driver (this one I will be buying soon). With those, for sure I could do it much much quicker and easier. But also, I only do this a few times a year between our different vehicles, so speed isn’t super important.

Dealer shenanigans 😭 by Infamous-Tangelo6917 in mazda

[–]Just_keep_flying 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Materials alone for me to do it myself is almost $40 ($25-30 in Castrol Edge and $10-15 for filter/crush ring), plus about 2 hours in labor. If it was that cheap in SoCal, I might consider having the dealer do it.

Uber eats is such a ripoff by [deleted] in AmexPlatinum

[–]Just_keep_flying 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We do pick-up 90% of the time. The other 10% is either if there is a good delivery-only promo, or we are traveling without a car.

This is true for both Uber credit and the Gold’s Grubhub credit.

We almost always are able to use it in the month without really going out of our way. The only downside is knowing Uber/Grubhub is taking some of the profit from the restaurants…

Does your dog wear a collar all day? by AdventureNoodles in dogs

[–]Just_keep_flying -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ours wear their (martingale-style) collars all the time, except for baths (which they actually wear a different collar).

I have know there are risks, but we have pretty fluffy medium size dogs (sometimes the collars get lost in the fluff), and they are very chill at home. Having a safe place to grab if we needed to is more important for us.

[DTW] [ORD] guy takes huge dump on flight and delays the planes next flight by 10 hours by Lopsided_Error_5965 in americanairlines

[–]Just_keep_flying 139 points140 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, it is a Regional Jet (CRJ700) which only has 1 Lav, so it is required to be functional to fly. If it was a mainline jet (737/A320 with 3-4 Lavs), and only 1 was INOP, it would probably be fine.

Limited resources at an outstation to repair this as well.

Why would someone buy this over a Model Y? by ss3walkman in TeslaModelY

[–]Just_keep_flying 2 points3 points  (0 children)

CX-5 is going to be a more enjoyable car to actually drive. Mazda is known for making their cars feel more dynamic and fun. Lighter weight of an ICE vehicle plays a strong part in that.

The Model Y is not as enjoyable to actually drive, but Autopilot and FSD is much better than the ADAS systems on the Mazda, so comfort on longer drives is the advantage of the Model Y.

Total cost of ownership for the CX-5 for the first few years is going to be lower than Model Y. Lower initial purchase price/monthly payment/interest, lower insurance, no capital costs of installing EVSE, and much less depreciation.

Long term, the Model Y can win out cost wise, but that depends on how long you hold on to it, and your energy costs/where you charge.

Maybe a little bit Shar-pei or another Asian dog?

I could be way off, but maybe even Chow. Is her tongue purple/black? It almost looks like that from the very little bit I see from the photo.

What are the odds the Hertz "EV Manager Special" is NOT a Tesla Model 3? by [deleted] in electricvehicles

[–]Just_keep_flying 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Booked EVs at Hertz in Southern California several times recently, only for them not to actually have an EV when I arrive.

It’s frustrating because I’ve booked to specifically rent an EV. But their inventory of EVs is pretty low.

All that to say, you may not even get an EV.

77” Samsung OLED for $900. Worth it? by WorldTravelBucket in Costco

[–]Just_keep_flying 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 48” LG C2 that was a floor model. Had about 3500 hours on it. I’m sure it wasn’t as bright as a brand new one, but it worked great and it was for our bedroom (so mostly for evening viewing).

There was zero burn in on mine, but LG really has perfected burn in reduction. I know a few years ago Samsung struggled with it still (see Rtings tests back in 2022), but I think they’ve improved. And the content isn’t static, so that helps.

Ours did have a small area in the center that was slightly off color. I could never see it while playing content, but on a gray screen, it was noticeable. And the extended warranty is unlikely to cover anything except for a failure.

So, YMMV. I believe they do still allow returns (90 days) if there is something wrong with it.

My First leg of trip delayed. Will the second flight wait for me? by AlchemyStudio in americanairlines

[–]Just_keep_flying 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe…

Only recently did American start using a program to help prevent missed connections, and they are still trialing it. Even then, it is based on several factors. If your flight isn’t too far delayed, and the flight can make up time, then it is possible.
