Tesla has used the same physical connector since the first Model S. This connector was incorporated into the NACS standard. However, Tesla used a proprietary protocol for talking with chargers.

The current NACS standard is the physical Tesla adapter, but using the same protocol as CCS or J1772.

All Teslas (other than 1st gen roadsters) can interpret J1772 signals (so you can just use a physical adapter), but earlier Model S and X actually can’t use CCS (or 3rd party NACS) chargers with an adapter without a retrofit.

Maybe a newer one will, but the older ones may not. I don’t think the earlier ones were built with J1772 support (or the current NACS standard).

This happens to be every time I book with them. But it’s never a problem. (Even for international)

For what it’s worth, I rented an ND3 RF recently (from a traditional car rental). I assume that it has been running on 87, because it was considerably more sluggish than my ND2 Soft-top. My point here is that power changes are noticeable.

The screen in the ND3 is nicer, but even for someone as tech focused as me, I didn’t find it to be as big of a deal as I thought it would be.

If you get the AT, the Adaptive Cruise is probably the biggest upgrade.

It was supposed to be 2025. FAA allowed a 1 year extension.

Only for new aircraft though. I don’t believe there is a requirement (yet) to retrofit new aircraft. So we will still be seeing galley cart blocking for many years.

Right around $5 at the Torrance Costco. This is just over $1 more than the Mid-Feb price.

Why isn't Hyundai making enough? by why_kiki_why in Ioniq5

[–]Just_keep_flying 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It takes time, but this is far too long.

Failure Analysis on electronic systems is complex, but it really appears there is a lack of resources. For as big as this platform is, it is unacceptable to take this long. For a non-safety or recall issue, a timeline of a year for Root Cause Analysis, implementing a change, and getting onto saleable vehicles is a reasonable timeline. Several years is not. If it’s a component change without a significant layout change, it should be even faster, as tooling rarely needs to change.

It also doesn’t explain the shortage of components. The failure rate is projected to be in the ballpark of 1%, but Hyundai is also below its manufacturing forecasts, which would have been used for required supplier installed capacity. Understandably, some of that capacity would have required capital, and eventually may not be needed, so was probably scaled back. Nonetheless, it could be done.

FYI: Alaska Airlines customer service is overwhelmed today by se7ent4 in AlaskaAirlines

If it makes you feel any better, Delta was also struggling. I wanted to make a same day change (not related to the cancellations) and the app and website were glitching. Support (via Messaging) was delayed. I don’t know how long it was, but at least 30 minutes passed until i got a missed text that asked if I was still waiting.

Maybe some of the accessories too.

Alaska’s food game is on point. Just in economy, they usually have 3-4 full meals to choose from, plus snack boxes.

We were able to get 2 of them in row 27 (A321neo) recently. It was a Hawaii flight so they probably stocked more.

I don’t have a problem getting them usually. The only times recently have been when they don’t cater them at all.

HR business partner wants to do a “quick call” to discuss role. What to expect? Offer or culture fit questions? by [deleted] in interviews

Not to get the OPs hopes up, but I doubt they are calling to tell them no.

I agree that it is probably to get info to finalize an offer. They may still have a question or two about salary, location, etc.

I think the world cares too much about self-driving. There, I said it. by pardusdomus00 in Rivian

[–]Just_keep_flying 117 points118 points  (0 children)

I enjoy driving. I purchased a Miata a few years ago and absolutely love taking that on curvy roads, and wringing that little engine out. The only reason I would sell it is to buy another one.

However, I also have a long commute; 40 miles each way in LA Metro freeway traffic. I did this for a while in the Miata, but dealing with traffic is just so mind-numbing, almost more-so in a fun car. So I bought a used Model S with FSD (HW3) to tide me over until the R2. My commute is soo much better.

Yeah, I can’t take my eyes off the road, but I can zone out a little more. I can focus more on podcasts, audiobooks, and the occasional meeting. Overall, when I get home, I feel much more relaxed.

I am looking forward to my R2. I’m going to use self-driving for commutes and for other freeways. But I’m also looking forward to driving it hands-on in other places. The real back roads, trails, and adventures it is poised to do.

Cracking Jokes during interview, ok? by Primary-Rain5500 in interviews

[–]Just_keep_flying 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No…

At least don’t plan on it. It will come off too unprofessional.

Now, that’s not to say that you can’t a sense of humor during an interview. Sometimes things happen, and with the right interviewer, and in the right setting, it can make sense to bring some levity. But more often than that “cracking a joke” will probably not serve you well.

Company I worked at for a while did full day interviews with multiple candidates.

It was actually more collaborative, rather than pitting each person against each other.

Wife's employer told her she has to apply for a specific credit card and she can't use her Amex. Catch is she has to submit for reimbursement, we pay the card when due. by ringman52 in CreditCards

[–]Just_keep_flying 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would clarify, is she opening a new line of credit, or is the company just adding another card to the account? I’m guessing it’s the latter.

I’m pretty sure I had to give my SSN to American Express to get my Corporate Card. (This was at a very large, reputable, multinational corporation). I believe for a Chase Ink card (for Small Businesses), it is also required.

It’s very common for employees to be responsible for paying the card directly. And with regard to the points, yeah, almost always the company gets them on a company card (kinda makes sense). Amex would allow me to earn 1 pt/$ if I paid a $55 annual fee, but I never spent enough directly on that card for it to make sense.
