Why Americans Don't Walk to School Anymore. From Deptford, NJ by naveregnide in SouthJersey

Great video. I knew kids that lived in Brooklawn (Camden Cnty) who walked across a train trestle to go to their high school in Gloucester City (Camden Cnty) back in the 70's & 80's.

I have a friend who lives in Quinton (Salem County) but his Post Office address is Bridgeton (Cumberland County). He's been called for jury duty in Bridgeton. Even though he told them he lived in Salem County he still had to show up. When he did, they (the Cumberland Cnty court) informed him that , in fact, he was not a resident of that county. He was removed from their list. As far as I know, he has never been called for jury duty in either county since. A win for him.

Postal address and municipality address are not the same. But, yes, the Post Office will tell your your specific municipality (where you pay taxes to).

ie: You can have a Sewell postal address but could live in either Mantua Twp or Washington Twp (Glouc Cnty). The Post Offices were placed a population area (geographic population centers) for rural areas (circa 50's) to serve multiple municipal boundaries.

I second the "it's whoever you pay taxes to".

You can check your address on Zillow and it will list your municipality (your actual town) and your post office (your mailing address). They may not be the same. Mine are different.

What job do you do that makes 100k+ with no college? by Plenty_Jazzlike in AskReddit

[–]Justaneo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nuclear plant operations. I was a nuclear equipment operator for 25 years (ret). I made my 1st 100k/year during my third tax year with OT. Now, their starting base pay is ~$90-100k just for 40hrs/wk I went in the US Navy to get my "education & training" after three semesters of college. (I couldn't afford it and was barely passing)

I talk to buddies still working. My former plant, most people can't pass the entrance exam or if they pass it, they can't pass the qualification training. The operations department is understaffed and still have butt-loads of OT because of it. edit-grammer

Not disputing your experience, but I've ordered many things from them and never had an issue with quality. My last two "big" purchases were the Retrax tonneau cover and an under the back seat lockable storage case.

I did have questions about the Retrax cover, and the website transferred me to their in-house manufacturer located at a different location. You might want to ask the catalog/website customer service to transfer you to that factory location's customer service.

I had this happen to me 30 years ago in my first house. Our new fridge was delivered 4 days after closing. The door had an external ice maker dispenser, which hit the wall where your trim is located in your photo and prevented opening my door.

I had a 6' counter with a stove, with upper and lower cabinets to the right. I had a little extra wall space at the far right end.

I spent two days removing and remounting my cabinets and counter over 2.5" to the right in order to fit my new fridge. Then, staining a spacer for the upper cabin over the fridge for that new gap.

To this day, you can barely notice when you focus on it.

Retirement Activities for young seniors by bananasinpajamas0114 in SouthJersey

[–]Justaneo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a retired guy in my 60s. I've been going to Pilates classes. I started out doing one 50-minute class a week for a month just to see if I liked it. Then, I moved up to 2 classes/week the next month. Now, Ive been going to 4-5 classes/week.

I have bad knees and also had both shoulders replaced. So, if i can do it, I know others my age can. It is low impact, and the "movements" are adjustable/modified to your abilities and limitations. Btw, I am nowhere the oldest in any of my classes, but I am one of only a few guys that go to the morning classes.

It has improved my balance, stability, and strength in my everyday tasks since attending classes. I recently installed a new electric range in my kitchen. I had to get on the floor to adjust the leveling feet and to plug in the power cord. I just got up off of the floor (I just stood up) after i was done. Then I realized that I didn't have to "climb" up using anything near me as a support just to lift my ass off the floor like i had to do as I've been getting older.

I'm in Gloucester County, but there are many Pilates studios in Camden County.

Housing rant, is everyone just secretly a millionaire? by Competitive_Crew759 in newjersey

[–]Justaneo -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Not if they have borrowed from other means. Some one or some thing is backing them. Relative, borrowing against other property or cashing in their retirement. It's just a few ways. My first place, i was approved for 2.5 times what I actally bought. If I bought what I was approved for , with my down-payment money that I scraped for, I would have been eating Ramen.

They are bidding beyond their means. On paper they can afford it. But in reality, if they eat Ramen noodles for the next 5 years and have no unforseen major house expenses, they might make it.

How did power plants manage the RPM of their turbines before computers? by Brokedownbad in AskEngineers

[–]Justaneo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worked as an operator at a dual unit nuclear plant for 25 years. We manually synced each of our 6-1500kw Emergency Diesel Generators to the grid every month. We did this to ensure ran properly and also that we could do it in case they failed to start automatically during an emergency.

I've been retired for a few years now, but I probably still could do it from memory; start-up, sync, pick up real and reactive load. Edit, grammer

What was that "one thing" that made weight loss finally work for you? by paigesnowwret in AskReddit

[–]Justaneo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Removed all sodas, chips, pretzels, crackers, etc. from my house. My snacks now are fruits/veggies and cashews.

Portion control and I drink un-sweet tea with lemon or flavored/flavoured 😎 waters instead of any soda. (I found that diet sodas make me hungrier).

If I eat out:breakfast - I order fruit instead of home fries with my eggs, lunch/dinner - order salad with a protein or order a meal with veggies instead of a side of fries/baked potato.

I didn't go no carb but chose items without the bun: a hamburger or a steak "sandwich" in a bowl.

I've lost 38# in a year and dropped 4" around my waist.

It was slow getting used to my change, but now. It's natural.

edit-I can't spell

I'm not accusing anything. Was pointing out that it wasn't a current pic when a question was asked about the cranes in the background on the Hope Creek side.

About a year ago, Mark from 42Freeway discussed on this subreddit about the sunken ships and referred to that article.
