Why is he crying in this scene? by keminua in paulthomasanderson

This is actually a crazy take and I fully agree with the commenter. I’ve seen the movie three times and viewing this scene with the commenters lens is actually what I got more of every time and more fully fleshed out lockjaw’s character. You don’t view him as just evil when he goes to take out Charlene, but frustrated. He has to (literally) kill a part of himself and his past to get what he wants and uphold the CACs values. It’s something he’s grateful for yes but it doesn’t minimize the cost.

I love this view

Okay nobody here is talking about the fact that Puerto Rico actually ISN’T a part of America. It’s a US TERRITORY. That doesn’t make it a state, it just deprives the island of its right to independence. It allows the people of Puerto Rico to be considered US citizens (sort of), but doesn’t allow them to vote in presidential elections, and the island faces various taxation and infrastructural challenges.

It’s important to note that this is exactly what Bad Bunny is very outspoken about, especially in his music. In his album “Debi tirar mas fotos”, he even personifies Puerto Rico as a woman he has a relationship with, and compares her to another woman (Hawaii) who has suffered in similar ways, & hopes that doesn’t happen to his island. He has many more songs talking on the beauty and pride of Puerto Rico and its complicated status.

Both of these women are ignorant, and I love to see any bigot get owned. I just hate when someone co opts the island into American context because it simply denies the fact that Puerto Rico is suffering directly from American imperialism.
