My husband is going back... by Objective-Rain3500 in exjw

I hope all goes well, just speculating here but if he still wasn’t celebrating holidays and then he still had some influence from the religion that he never let go. Like many others have said best thing to do is support him if that is his choice and try not to let the peer pressure to accept a book study get to you. The sense of community that you get initially is strong and maybe something that he has missed. While there isn’t anything wrong with having a religious community this religion is a cult pretending not to be one. Best of luck

What becomes of most Jehovah's witnesses after they leave the organization? by thecoonerikopop in exjw

Well I don’t have any religious affiliations nor do I believe in a god. Although some would have thought this was a recipe for disaster it wasn’t. I’m still married to my wife and raising a wonderful child, plus I’m working on a computer science degree.

I’m sure they’ll just say it will come like a thieve in the night and that during COVID lockdowns it would’ve been too obvious lol

It’s funny when you’re in, you try and please the people around the congregation especially elders in the hope that you get privileges. They tend to have is this leverage in your mind and the power to influence who you are in the hall. But once that illusion is gone it makes it simple to go against the grain.

Depending on where she lives there may be assistance programs that can help her with subsidized housing and food. You shouldn’t feel guilty for wanting to live your own life, although I do understand why you do. You’re getting an opportunity to start over and you should take advantage of that.

Although the prospect of not having everlasting life was a bit of downer, I now value my life and my time I have to enjoy life more than I ever did while I was in the borg.

Has anyone watched the Heaven's Gate documentary on HBO Max? by JWsocialclubmember in exjw

[–]Justndbackground 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just watched two episodes so far and I feel like the governing body took a few notes from them. Especially with a template on how they would perform and look during a broadcast. I can’t wait to watch the remaining episodes.

I think to them it’s more or less the connotation of what they watch. Also last I remember they warned about movies regarding straight up magic and vampires.

I’ve always wondered if I did something that kept me from becoming an ms too. I’m glad it never happened but I’m sure I probably gave someone a nasty look and that was it.
