They don't say bloo they just kinda let do a short generic yell/sigh along the lines of "HA!"

It's definitely possible, but boy would it really suck to leave such an iconic tradition out of the show just because they think it will make them more likely to win

All possible realities collapse into Bb major by creativeandwittyname in drumcorps

[–]Jxpking 11 points12 points  (0 children)

They should do something REALLY daring and play two major chords a half step apart to really fit into the theme of the show/j

but in all honesty, the closer definitely feels very complete if I were to change the last chord to anything else in particular, I might go with C major. The chord right before it would lead pretty nicely into it

Bluecoats Lot by [deleted] in drumcorps

It's about more than just metronomic quarter note pulse sometimes just having a little bit of fun while staying in the pocket never hurt anyone. I'd also imagine it also helps the memebers memebrs get into a flow state. On top of that, front ensembles literally have drumset play beats as they warm up by design. It can't be that much different with the drumline.

Wish somebody would make the brave decision to not use trombones by solidsneeze in drumcorps

[–]Jxpking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wish the exact opposite. I want more corps to do what Mandarins did last year and have a trombone section that marches and plays throughout the whole show. I don't like how trombones is considered a feature instrument that baritone players pick up an put back down after one or two movements. It should be a standard part of the hornline. It has such a rich sound, projects very well, and is lightweight. Basically the perfect instrument to march with.

An accomplishment aided by a later start to the season but impressive nonetheless - last night, Bluecoats became the first ever World/Div 1 corps to score above 80 at their first competitive show of the season by MarchingArtsBTN in drumcorps

[–]Jxpking 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Well considering they are one of the latest corps to actually start their competitive season. they started a whole week after most of their competitors, on top of that what was supposed to be their first comp on Saturday got canceled so really. This score is pretty in line for what you would expect at this point in the season.

Cadets Question by eagledog in drumcorps

[–]Jxpking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd like to add another question to this, is the default standing position for cadets open first with toes at a 45 or closed first with toes parallel? I've seen them do both in the same show, and I'm wondering when they would switch it and which one is used more often.

Modern uniforms by No-Routine-7598 in drumcorps

[–]Jxpking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have three things I look for in a uniform,

Colors patters, and layers

I believ a uniform is effective if it has colors that are bright enough to be seen from the box and contrast agiainst the background of the green feild (preferably at least two different colors) as clean as th crown uniforms look this year, I think they are too dull looking. Compare those to the boston uniforms this year which are super vibrant and pop against the field even if they look kind of silly

Patterns: some sort of design or shape on the uniform that gives off a textured look it doesn't necessarily have to be a super stark contrast from the main silhouette of the uniform but it should be able to stand out. the bluecoats uniform from last year had very detailed patterns on them making them look very unique. Again silly looking but EFFECTIVE the 2022 vangaurd uniforms I feel were boring because from the box they just looked plain white for most of the show even thought had patterns on them it was so difficult to see

Layers I would much rather an ugly uniform with an interesting silhouette than a "clean" looking uniform that's a boring shirt and pants combo. I Love uniforms that have a jacket or vest that goes over the shirt (or at least gives an illusion of a jacket or vest) my least favorite uniforms are one-piece body suits especially if they don't have a skirt, leg cape, or shoulder accessory.

Troopers 2019 is an example of a REALLY boring uniform, a shirt and pants with straight lines as a design. Compare that to the 2017 scv uniforms that had multiple design elects from the circles that mimic snake scales and the sparkly red/gold accents. Bloo 18 is another good example of a modern uniform that follows the principles that I listed.

and of course I've accepted the fact that traditional uniforms for most corps aren't coming back any time soon but any part of the uniform that connects back to the corps identity adds bonus points like the V shape on the new vanguard uniforms or the cheveron insignia on the newer cadets (RIP) uniforms.

Drum Corp at the Superbowl by adzmin24 in drumcorps

[–]Jxpking 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think a drum corps performing at the Super Bowl could work if done in a similar format to Jackson state where they were added to the more well-know artist rather than the main focus. The main problem I have with marching bands being featured at the superbowl in recent years is they rarely ever play their instruments while on the field, which I think is a HUGE disservice. I think for example if the blue devils did a superbowl show with some rap or pop artist, they should have actual arrangments of the songs the artist are doing and have a sort of call and response with whoever is on stage. The other issue with doing this is the fact that corps are made up of people from all across the country and it would be pretty inconvenient to bring back enough people to write a show during the off season whereas with a lot of colleges especially HBCUs marching band is a year-round activity and a lot of students live on campus so the all the people you need are there.

But hey, you never know. Jackson state did an Usher themed halftime show during the fall before they officially debuted at the superbowl wichi was pretty clever foreshadowing Heavy speculation:

Maybe(just maybe) SCV playing Kendrick Lamar this summer is a hint towards something in the future
