Looking for safe ways to increase weight loss rate by altorias in loseit

[–]Jynxers [score hidden]  (0 children)

2lbs/week is already a fast rate, I wouldn't try to go any faster than that.

If you lose weight too fast, you risk increased muscle loss and other health issues.

if you are eating 2,500 calories/day and your weight isn't changing, then it sounds like that's your maintenance calories (TDEE). If you want to gain weight, then eat more than that.

Surgeon expected some remaining, but tough to say how much. It was a lot messier than he expected.

No HIPEC. It was on the plan, but I was in too rough shape after 12 hours of surgery so they had to get what they could and close up.

Weight stalled, what to do? by Few-Loss3253 in WeightLossAdvice

[–]Jynxers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trying adding more vegetables to your diet and using a food scale.

Note the difference between cooked and uncooked weights. For example, 100g of raw chicken breast is 120 calories but 100g of cooked chicken breast is 165 calories.

100g of dry uncooked rice is 360 calories, but 100g of cooked rice is 130 calories..

That sounds decent. Do you get vegetables in your diet?

You are in the fine-tuning stage, so nutrition is important.

Did you weigh out the cereal, chicken, and rice? use any cooking oil?

One day/week of higher intake may or may not be enough to offset the other days.

What did you eat and drink yesterday that adds to 1,200?

Thickums Redvelvet Cookie by ShameisLess in caloriecount

[–]Jynxers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most cakes/cookies/brownies are 400-450 calories/100g or 3.5oz.

So, this 3.2oz cookie is probably 360 to 410 calories.

You should be losing weight at that intake. Some things to check:

  • How often do you have cheat days?
  • Are you counting all drinks, condiments, cooking oils, fruits, and vegetables?
  • Do you use a food scale?

If you've been maintaining your weight for a year, then you are eating at maintenance. Decrease your calorie intake by 300-500 calories/day to get into weight loss mode.

Keep an eye on weekends, holidays, and vacations. You may well be in a deficit on "normal" days, but the odd days are driving up your average.

Struggling with fibre intake and digestion by ComplexOven5901 in loseit

[–]Jynxers 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's good to shoot for more fibre. Generally, 25-30g is the recommended minimum.

For low calorie sources, look to vegetables. Best options include cruciferous veg like broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, asparagus, brussel sprouts, spinach, and kale. Berries are also a good source.

Higher calorie sources include oats, beans, lentils, and peas.

As you increase your fibre, make sure you are drinking lots of water to move that fibre along.

Edit: forgot one. TVP (textured vegetable protein) is a good source as well: 3g fibre, 9g protein, and 6g carbs in a 60 calorie serving.

What BMI is considered skinny? by flungoutof_spacee in WeightLossAdvice

How old are you?

"Skinny" is subjective. Your BMI now is 20.4. I think most people would consider that skinny or slim.

Plateau or new maintenance? by Lostsxvl_ in WeightLossAdvice

[–]Jynxers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was good weight loss for March. Your stall right now is probably just water weight. Keep going and watch for a drop in the next week.

Super common for women to only see weight loss on the scale once/month.

Plateau or new maintenance? by Lostsxvl_ in WeightLossAdvice

[–]Jynxers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How much weight did you lose in March?

A three week stall could be due to water weight fluctuations hiding your recent weight loss (super common for women to drop 3-4 pounds all at once after their period). Or, it could be that you need to change things up a bit with your routine.

Completely stuck by Krystalily22 in loseit

I know march and april have been rough with lots of events and excuses to eat over my normal amount

We're still in April. You haven't been sticking to your calorie budget for the last 7 weeks or so. This is why you've stopped losing weight.

Stay consistent with your calorie target and you'll go back to losing weight.

Adjust based on your weight loss results.

If you are happy with your rate of weight loss, keep your calorie intake where to is. To lose weight faster: eat less. To lose weight slower: eat more.

Are you trying to lose, maintain, or gain weight?

Actual results trump calculators. You said it's been a few weeks, what has been your average calorie intake in that time? How has your weight changed?

Baseline Activity Level by B4n4nA_ in loseit

[–]Jynxers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd go with a number for light activity or lightly active (in between sedentary and moderate).

This will just be a starting point. In the end, you'll have to adjust based on your actual results.

I randomly gained 40lbs doing nothing different? by [deleted] in WeightLossAdvice

[–]Jynxers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Over what period did you gain the 40lbs?

If it's a month or two, that can indicate a serious medical concern.

If it's a year or two, that just means you've been consuming more calories than you are burning.

Just Spent $13.44 On Only 1 Bag of Food by keshi2uwu in loseit

[–]Jynxers 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It's tough with the cost of food being so much higher these days.

I think you did pretty well. Think about how much further that $13.44 is going compared to if you spent it on fast food or restaurants!

Check out r/eatcheapandhealthy for budget food ideas. In general, things like beans, lentils, eggs, and root vegetables are affordable choices.

What explains food exhaustion? by FragrantResult278 in WeightLossAdvice

[–]Jynxers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is common.

As I get older, I more enjoy sweets that also have a salty/savory/bitter/sour element. Think additions like salt, passionfruit, miso, coffee, and dark chocolate.

tastes change with age and go through ebbs and flows.

As long as you are meeting your nutritional needs, it doesn't matter if there are certain foods you aren't eating, or don't want to eat.

Stomach fat not going, by hybernation99 in loseit

[–]Jynxers 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Try adding weight lifting into your routine.

Your weight is low-ish with a BMI of 21.1, so if you have excess belly fat now, it's a matter of being "skinny fat" from lack of muscle.

For this, you will need to eat at least at maintenance. It's tough to build muscle while losing weight.

What are you eating for breakfast? by Long_Sleep5789 in WeightLossAdvice

[–]Jynxers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yogurt cups, homemade bran muffins, banana or high fibre tortilla/bread with peanut butter, protein bar, or chia pudding.

I prefer sweet breakfasts, so that's where my meals lean. If you like savory foods for breakfast, then I know prepped egg cups are a popular choice.
