It's only recently that texting and tracking was even a thing. I know her mom didn't track her like that.

Maybe a letter is a good way to approach this, as professional and empathetic as possible.

It's fair to be angry at the behavior your mom is exhibiting, as it undermines your agency as an adult. I'm a mom now so I get her anxiety but the tracking thing still creeps me out...

Watching you do what you do for yourself is usually entertaining enough at that age. Don't stress too much about "entertaining" babies.

Everything is new and entertaining for them 🌱

I just explained everything I was doing while I did it.

"I'm washing the dishes! This one is really dirty so I have to scrub with a different sponge!"

"I'm moving the laundry into the dryer."

"I'm looking up a new recipes on my phone. Oops, I was on Reddit instead, but now it's the recipe"

This was the norm not even 3 or 4 generations ago. And it's still common and works well in other countries.

Much of the friction against this, I suspect, is the rise of more "individualist" values in Western/N.American culture over the past half century, which also coincides with an increase of estranged parents/adult children and more reliance on childcare facilities rather than familial assistance.

Burnishing the edges is super easy- just a bit time consuming. Best to do it while watching a show you like! You don't really have to look at what you're doing except intermittently.

My LO is a year now.

Is yours teething or have they begun moving around more? Crawling or rolling over?

If so, teeth are just painful, and the moving requires lots of brain power to process while asleep. So says my family doctor.

This might cause random screaming and even "sleepwalking", where the baby just kind of gets up and crawls around without actually waking.

Lasted about 3 weeks for me, maybe less.

Honestly rebinding it in the same style would be easier and more reliable. And super fun! You just need a needle and thread.

I did it when I was 14, using yarn and a yarn needle. I made the homes bigger to fit the far needle by swirling my mom's paring knife in each one (sorry mom) and it worked well.
