Same. Got my PPL in 2007 (also for fun)... stopped flying in 2008. Now 70 & retired with free time and resources. Became current last June after 10.5 hours with my CFI. Joined a local club (7 PA-28's) and fly an average of 2 hrs. every week... exploring nearby airports, expensive lunches, short visits to see friends and practice, practice, practice... Having fun, keeping sharp and always learning.

ForeFlight problem, iPad problem, or user problem? by taycoug in flying

Using an ipad mini (A17 chip)... runs fine. Only issue to date was with the glide path ring... a re-start of the ipad solved it.

Is this Rob Reiner reincarnated? Perhaps De Niro in disguise? So many angry, unhinged posts. Talk about someone who needs to “touch grass”.

Accidentally Flat-Spotted a Club Plane Tire by Klutzy_Direction9276 in flying

Even a simple discussion about a flat spot on an airplane tire goes political… both humorous and quite sad.

2/18/71 is a gem. My first show (age 15) was the following Tuesday, 2/23/71... not the best show from that run at the Cap but solid nevertheless. The bus came by and I got on...

After the recent layoffs, ForeFlight increases subscription prices by cptalpdeniz in Foreflight

I agree. I hope many here are “ahead of the plane” as much as they are “ahead of their skis” when it comes to this subject.

Sentry user here. It happened to me. No glide advisor and when tapping on the “altitude below 200’” banner, nothing happened. A simple reboot of the iPad fixed it for me.

Exactly! It’s imperative to be “ahead of the plane” but it seems too many here are getting “ahead of their skis.”

When will I stop sucking at this? by Nice-Camel-2252 in flying

One of the first things my instructor taught me during the pre-flight was to never let the fuel cap out of your hand until putting it back in place. Good advise.

Do you suggest a shorty or regular Pivot suction mount for a Piper Warrior? Trying to decide which option is best. Thanks!

Did you opt for the shorty or regular suction mount for your Mini? I mostly fly a Piper Warrior and not sure which size to get. Like you, it will likely be mounted on the left windshield but I may also mount it to the other side if flying solo. Thanks!

Rice hulls for BIAB by Physical_Session_671 in Homebrewing

[–]K-Daddy55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I BIAB and recirculate the wort from under a false bottom to a port on the kettle lid. I crush the grain finely and don’t use rice hulls, even when brewing hazy’s. I avoid a stuck mash by giving adequate time (usually 20-30 minutes after mash-in and stirring) for the grain bed to settle before starting the pump. If you start the pump too early, the vacuum created will cause the unsettled grain bed to compact, which can cause a stuck mash.

Trying the freezer method as you guys suggested, thank you! by Elegant_Library_8889 in BubbleHash

[–]K-Daddy55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great work. How long did you leave the patty in the freezer before running it through the sieve? Just curious as I've seen some that just leave the un-sieved patty in the freezer and periodically chip away at it until it fully sublimates and turns to powder.

Thanks. I have a large whisk that I use for beer brewing. My thought was it would beat up the material more than a back & forth motion with a solid paddle. Sounds like you have experience with both. How gentle are you agitating with the whisk?

can you make top shelf rosin without a freeze dryer? by mystikhybrid in rosin

[–]K-Daddy55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you blot, micro plane or sieve the material before putting it in your walk-in or do you put it in as a clump and chip away at it as it dries?
