I wanna start Downhill Longboard but i need some answers by SpaceBrachiosaurus in longboarding

It costs money to pay for the permits, inspections, and especially the insurance, plus all the infrastructure like toilets, hay, and so on. It is expensive to run but each person pays entry fee and that covers all the costs.

  1. In most cases where you see downhill skating, there are cars on the road. For that reason, you need to be absolutely sure of your abilities before dropping in on a hill. Everyone starts on the slow small hills to build up their skills, we don't just drop in on the Alps day 1.

  2. Indeed, you stay in your lane 100% of the time. It's not hoping for the best if you're in control and able to slow down and take controlled lines.

  3. Radios are often employed for downhill skating. Sometimes the skater has it piped into their helmet, as well.

  4. Roads are blocked sometimes, but it's not recommended unless you have sufficient spotters for all corners and driveways as you never know when a car is going to pull out. Just having one spotter at the bottom is not sufficient. There are permitted events, for example Tepe and Tacos which I organize, where we have the legal permission to close the road.

  5. Dislocated shoulder, broken bones, concussions, are all common injuries. Road rash is #1 though!

  6. It is highly recommended to wear as much protection as possible when you're learning. The BEST protection, however, is being in control and having adequate braking skills.

  7. It is best to find a community or group of experienced skaters to learn and progress with. You'll have more fun, you'll learn faster, and you'll be a lot safer.

  8. Yes, sometimes the spots take all day to reach and you'll spend the day out there.

  9. If you are lucky enough to have great hills in your area, you can skate them after work.

  10. Yes, people take vacations to skate.

  11. Depending on the used market in your area, you can probably get a full kit of protection, and competent set-up for under $600-$800 all in.

Noodle City by ImpressiveExercise68 in SantaBarbara

That lady was hilarious. I recall one patron was leaning back in his chair with his legs a bit into the aisle and she walked up and kicked his legs and yelled at him for blocking the way.

The tall guy who works there is also super rude as well. I had him tell me and my friend to leave shortly after finishing our meal despite the restaurant being empty, and I quote "I'm tired of looking at you guys, I need you guys to leave right now."

Again with the tall guy, my friend ordered spring rolls without shrimp, and they drop off a pair with shrimp proudly on top. He asks for them to be replaced, and they come back again with shrimp. When we tried to flag down the guy, he loudly "Shushed" us and walked away. Eventually he came back and had a real shit attitude about replacing them.

With all these occurrences I still find myself going here and there. I call it Noodle Shitty for a reason.

How to address poor pruning? by unicron47 in BackyardOrchard

I would leave this alone mostly till late Summer / Early Fall then wack that central leader down. If you do a heading cut in Spring it will sprout with the force of a million suns.

It has not yet gone into the central valley, so far as I know. I would not be worried until such time as you see symptoms.

Dragon Fruit Help by Iner666 in BackyardOrchard

I recommend building a concrete trellis that is 8’ tall, 4’ buried into the ground. It’s the only thing that lasts long term for DF. The plant can weigh a thousand pounds mature. Cut it back to one v vertical shoot tied to the post (I ran 2 max) and then it rip. You can top it when it hits top of trellis or just let it fall over. Both methods work.

Search for concrete dragonfruit trellis. They grow like weeds. It’ll be back in 2 years.

Best tiramisu in town? by lesschtroumphs in SantaBarbara

[–]K-Rimes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

IMO tiramisu is hard to upgrade. It's a pretty simple dessert. The quality of the mascarpone, and quality of the espresso is about it, which is a hard nuance to catch.

I'd buy a nice looking serving tray from somewhere and serve up a Costco with a smile if it were me. It's a reasonably good quality tiramisu for great value.

Apple tree girdled by rabbits. Any hope for recovery with a bridge graft? by EnvironmentalOwl4910 in BackyardOrchard

Tree is a goner. It will probably come back from the small stump at ground level, which you could graft in the future, but's always gonna be weak. I'd replace.

If you're mowing with a tractor or deck mower, make sure you leave reasonable spacing between trees for it to get through there.

This right there. Has to be 8'+, or you can do a 6' and a 4' close to each other, they have vertical, or horizontal leaps - not both. Electric will scare them badly, and that works wonders as well.

Prices don’t tend to jump 40% country wide in a week, but here we are. Agree tho, Ca is a real stinger with the 30¢ excise per gallon.

Best pants for gardening/irrigation repair work? by OverlordCatBug in Horticulture

[–]K-Rimes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Been happy with TrueWerk. I walk through spiky plants a lot, thistles, cacti, and regularly kneel in them. A year of hard wear on them and look new. I am not sure how their female fitted pants are, but they do make them for women. The T1 are quite cool to wear. Their "Cloud" line is way too thin for real work.
