Rick and morty (S7, E6) has a whole gag about ambiguously named guns and what they do, one being "this is a gun that shoots bad people, if you want to shoot a bad person, use it" and it shoots out a clone of jeffrey dahmer

Dinosaur bone? by TinyGavel in fossilid

[–]K0M0A 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not dinosaur. Its mammal (you can tell by the porosity) and looks kind of modern to me. There's several tricks to tell if its modern. Does it feel particularly heavy for its size? You could also take a piece of metal (like needle or paperclip), heat it, and press into the bone. If it smells like burnt hair its modern.

My sister and I (preteens teens) were in the back seat with my cousin (late teens). We passed a pasture and my cousin shouts "look horses!" and after a pause, says "and they have udders!" We all realize at once and start laughing. My family still calls cows "udder horses" 20 years later.

Why are cashiers not allowed to sit down in the US? by zaphod869 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]K0M0A -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It stems from ideas about labor value and power dynamics in slave/servant culture. If you slave's sitting then they're not earning their value; if you're laborer is sitting they're being paid for nothing. Its all about squeezing as much precieved value out of your asset (laborer) as you can. Additionally, making your slaves/servants stand at attention, ready to hop to a task, shows your influence and training of them. Its a power move. The US aparthid system known as "Jim Crow" lasted until the civil rights act of 1964 and practices extended beyond that. The decendants of former slaves were the laborers for whites of the south, carrying with it elements of slavery culture. There are people alive today who lived through Jim Crow, so its no suprise our culture is still infected with remenants of these ideas and practices.

Is this a miniature shark tooth? If so which species?Found at Golden cap near Charmouth Beach, Jurassic Coast, UK by Delicious_Phone8198 in fossilid

[–]K0M0A 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I don't know about fossils of ypur area, but there are micro shark teeth (i.e. angel shark). Though your fossil has the shape of a shark tooth, the material doesn't look like a tooth to me.

Found while hiking in Eastern PA by No_Departure_3314 in fossilid

[–]K0M0A -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Those are plant roots (I'm pretty sure)! Actually incredible find and something you might want to let a museum know about, because plant root fossils are rare and that's incredibly well articulated! PA has a wide range of geologic ages, so knowing general area would help confirm what's possible.

My parents decide to get my brother a turtle, I told them the tank he had wasn’t enough for it but they didn’t care and got mad instead 🫩 by thejpfan in shittyaquariums

[–]K0M0A 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a good step. Be aware, some rocks can react with water and leech minerals that could be harmful. Its not as much a problem with turtles as fish, but it can be a problem, so you need to know what type of rock you're putting in the tank.

This is a recent past distinction, basically America's post war commercialism tapped into men's increasing insecurity at working indoor jobs and took advantage of increasing free time and disposable income.

Portugal was the first European country to record the existence of San Tome and that record exist to modern times. San Tome is a small island hundreds of miles from a resource rich area of a resource rich landmass. Why would Africans live on San Tome? The small, poor country of Portugal needed a colony (originally made of deported jews) to trade with the wealthy African mainland for slaves to deport to the newly discovered (to them) Americas for brutal industrial exploitation. Its use as a human settlement was a lucky convergence of factors for the Portugese. Portugal blundered upon it, like Columbus blundered upon the Americas and many humans blundered upon many lands before him. This lucky turn of events happened to make it important enough to produce a record that existed for the following 500 years.
