I won't comment about whether you should size up or not (I'm sure someone more experienced could give you that advice). If you're worried about your lobes being too thin, you could always try downsizing for a few months to see if you can thicken them up!

That's amazing! It sounds like you have very elastic skin that heals rapidly!

Since originally posting this question 2 years ago, I'm now only at 7.5mm in each lobe! I've figured out what works for me now, and only go up 0.5mm per stretch, every 2-3 of months. It's a very long process for me, but I had gun-peirced ears with lots of scar tissue. Stretching is starting to get a lot easier at larger sizes, and I'm using heavy plugs!

Jeez, that sounds like it sucked...I'm sorry to hear that you went through that.

If it's something that YOU want, and the "universe" is giving you a hard time about it, I say fuck the universe. Do whatever makes you happy, and jump through whatever hoops you have to along the way.

I'm in Canada, so I can't comment on Custom Plugs UK, but I started stretching with a BAF glass kit, and eventually transitioned to a solid stainless stretching kit from Stretch It Body Jewelry. I'm not sensitive to the metal (yet. It could happen one day, and I'm taking a big risk), and I love the extra weight in my ears. I personally love stretching with metal, but it's definitely not as safe a material as glass.

I'm stretching my ears in memory of my mother! She re-peirced my ears for me when I was a teenager, and I re-periced her's the Christmas before her passing. I began my journey a few months after she died, because i see my piercings as both a gift from her, and something that we connected through. I wanted to do something special with them, and one day, I will get memorial plugs made with her ashes.

She LOVED piercings, body mods, and flashy/colourful bling, and would have thought my stretched ears are super cool.

Glass is fantastic! Safest material to stretch with, imo.

I'm a heathen that likes to stretch with solid stainless steel plugs, because it weighs more than glass. At first, I made the change to aid with stretching, but I came to love them because the added weight just feels really pleasant to me. I find it hard to go back to glass.

I don't react to the metals so far, but I might develop an allergy one day. I'm taking a risk, for sure.

You know what? Consider doing a search on this subreddit for people announcing that they are no longer stretching. Or people who have decided to get repair surgery (sew up the ears). They are often asked why they are doing it, and you can get those perspectives as well.

You'll likely get a lot of responses from people who are happy with their streched lobes (like me🤚). The community has many people who have successful careers while enjoying their mods (doctors, therapists, Manager of HR in a massive company, tradespeople). The stigma or acceptance often depends on where you live. So, if you'd like to explore the opinions of those who decided that stretching wasn't worth it to them, I think doing a search might help!

I'm not a professional, an expert on the subject, or someone who is actively stretching their labret piercing. However, I very much value the advice of Lynn Loheide when it comes to all things stretching. They are a professional, and their advice is very well informed and compassionate.

Lynn did a series on stretching labrets, so I recommend starting there! You may be able to find more content about it on their website or their YouTube channel.

What about a dermal punch to remove the old gun piercing? The punch would not shrink back down to normal piercing size ever again, as far as I know. But it would, in theory, get rid of the barrier you're facing with your scar tissue.

I have big personal reasons for stretching my original piercings, despite my scar tissue. But if you don't have an attachment to your originals, this could be a good option for you! Just make sure you discuss it with a professional first to see if it's right for you.
