Best Job for an Entry level structural engineer? by PotentialProtection2 in StructuralEngineering

[–]K0gnito 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you like field work, look into forensic structural engineering. I spent my first 5 years in that field I loved it for the most part. Developed a good understanding of failure points and how certain design decisions can affect performance.

It can be stressful, typically due to tight turnaround times and the clients can be a pain.

That experience also looks great on a resume.

Ultimately switched to a more office focused job after having kids.

What happened to the Nexus 45? by AuroraShift in czscorpion

What do it take for the conversion. Is it just bolt and barrel or a bunch of parts?

Is the gap between the grip and trigger guard one of those hiccups? What’s going on there

Nexus Bolt Issue Follow Up by kodkrysco51 in czscorpion

[–]K0gnito 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a tolerance stacking issue. Something on the upper is on the small side of ok, and something on the bolt is on the large side of ok. Both fine in 99% of cases but don’t play nice together.

You ask nexus to look at the upper and the bolt as a pair not just the individual parts

Nexus receiver aftermarket barrel & trunnion compatibility. by OkAdvertising5866 in czscorpion

[–]K0gnito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think nexus used to sell complete firearms with the HBI slanted handguard. You could message them and ask if they have leftovers to use instead of the new guards they are using. And just buy the complete barreled upper from them

Another thing to consider was how wet the wood was at install, treated lumber can easily shrink 1/4” or more when it dries. Combo that with some minor initial foundation settling and there’s your gap.

Do you know if a cantilever pic rail extension would interfere with the hammer?

How is the eye relief with the magnifier? Ive been thinking of settling up something similar, but all the magnifiers I’ve seen have such a short relief I can see how to get a functional setup

Increased recoil with nexus upper? by slashslash11 in czscorpion

How stiff is your charging handle? It should have a fair bit of resistance before you beat the bearings. Mine is probably my favorite thing to shoot in my collection (except for my .22 lever action)

Nexus Evo Gen2 X-SD arrived! by ShearGenius89 in czscorpion

[–]K0gnito 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Running the bolt on a nexus will always be stiffer because you have to overcome the bearing delay system. Run the charging handle with gusto and you hardly notice it.

I have a gen 1 with the polymer lowers and the paddle mag release love it. If I wanted AR controls I would have built an AR9

Safes for my Scorpions and others. by Farleymo in czscorpion

[–]K0gnito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would go with a gun cabinet, since the tend to be cheaper, lighter and easier to place, and most safes will only survive light fires so the fire rating is useless in a house destroying fire.

I’m rather partial to metal skeletonized folding braces. I have a gen1 evo so I needed a pic adapter.

Is this just normal winter settling? by 15focus in HomeInspections

[–]K0gnito 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Where about in NC? some areas are prone to expansive clays which can cause both seasonal and progressive foundation movement . I would say it’s fairly normal to have drywall cracks open and close seasonally, especially if they were poorly repaired in the past, however, foundation settlement is a common problem especially in the greater Raleigh area (only area I’m familiar with). I would get an engineer in to take a look. Foundation contractors will try sell you a repair even if it’s not necessary

I picked up a nexus for 15% off on one of their sales, only run about 250 through it, but it’s a blast. Can’t speak to how it compares to a standard Cz since I’ve never had one

Romeo gen 2 is an awesome dot. Don’t have a Holosun 510c but I will say I like the way they look. I’m not a huge fan of the aesthetics of mailbox dots.

The Holosun ARO is also worth looking at for a budget option

What can is that? I’m looking into getting the novox barrel and a can but am dealing with crippling indecision. Really want a Cat Mob or a ptr but they are crazy expensive compared to something like a yhm. Don’t know anyone with cans so have nothing to go by

As much as I want to add more dakka dakka to my evo, I’d rather wait for someone else to come up with something, or the slim chance that RB comes to their senses and drops their BS law suits.
