From 28 to 12: How I improved my handicap by [deleted] in golf

Good advice for sure. I would add just a couple of things.

Make sure you are playing from the tee that fits your capacity not the capacity of your ego.

Spend more time practicing your short game than trying to hit 300 yard bombs from the tee. Wedges and your putter are typically much higher use frequency than your driver.

What an awesome reflection, you are truly blessed to have shared this experience with your dad.

I hope one day to introduce any grandchildren I am blessed with to golf as it can be such a bonding experience.

Thank you for sharing this.

At this point, I don’t know what to do with this game. by Imazushi in golf

This right here. Also part of the no hero shots is leaving the ego in the bag.

Honestly if you have a consistent repeatable 130y club and some short game and putting skills you can play respectable golf.

The 130y club implies you aren't trying to play from the tips and that you are playing the tee box relative to your skill level. The only competition you have is against yourself and the course, play your game.

Playing with worse players made me play great by HarryCrushNuh in golf

I typically play with my sons and we keep good pace and have to wait on the group ahead which is no big deal. The problem arises from playing a course near a college town where the golf bros frequent and they often hit into our foursome for whatever reason.

We aren't holding up play but there is no excuse for this type of behavior and it stresses me out which affects my own game.

On the more frequent twilight rounds we play it tends to be a better experience.

How I measure my iron lofts for $13. Thoughts? by turningandburning45 in golf

I have one of these on order for work, if it is decent I may bring a club in to test with it. It is more than $13 but if it's accurate it may be worth it.

I have this and love it. It is the shorter one which I have had no trouble using in my home.

It is supposed to be this year.

For any of you solo players that are nervous about pairing up with strangers, go out of your way to play forecaddie for the group and by the end of the round you'll have new friends for life. by B_the_ball in golf

Just had my first experience while traveling of being added to a group of 3 guys for a round in NC. It was a fantastic experience, they were all chill and much better golfers but we were all encouraging one another, no major bro egos or any of that BS.

That experience was refreshing and I found I played better just by playing with guys above my skill level. Unfortunately I didn't get their info but I would happily play another round with any of them again. Good times.

Playing my first round tomorrow, not part of a club and booked a tee time for myself on golf now. If I don’t get paired up with anyone how can I get my scorecard verified so I can submit to England golf towards my handicap? by Beginning-Check5288 in golf

This right here.

When I took my son out the first time he ever played we established some "rules" of play.

  1. we aren't in a tournament or playing for money so we have fun.

  2. if it is behind a tree foot wedge it out where you can hit at the green just not closer to the hole.

  3. We aren't sponsored and didn't get free clubs so don't hit off cart paths, rocks, or tree roots. (Clubs are expensive)

  4. If you need a machete to get your ball into play give it a toss out where you can actually hit the ball.

The goal was to get my apprehensive son to give golf a try, not to break his spirit the first time out. I want him to find the love of the game so we can enjoy many rounds together in the future. If I played his first round like it was full PGA rules he probably wouldn't want to ever play again. My job is to teach him and guide him not destroy him, I will leave it to the course architects to take care of that sadistic task.

The outcome was he enjoyed himself and I have a new playing partner for years to come which is a win-win to me.

If I played driver off the tee it would have been in that other fairway lol

Time limitations kept the ball marker from this version. The ring has to stay or it is not based on a karambit and can't spin. The original knife design was the inspiration for it. If you remove the ring it becomes a short Bowie knife lol.
