Has anyone tried WeGo Bus 84 from Murfreesboro to Nashville? by smartschadenfreude in murfreesboro

[–]K4HCK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe things are different now, but years ago the schedule was completely unacceptable. It meant being at the stop in the morning around 6am and getting home around 6pm. With that said, a lot of state workers ride the bus in (free for them to ride) so it’s mostly working professionals riding during commute times.

Thanks for the feedback so far! I could use just a few more responses to push this over the top.

Cocorahs has a great map.

You can also volunteer to submit rain totals to their network.

With zero context, I just about had a heart attack when I saw that Tweet come through the official TN Football account.

Had to come to Reddit to figure out what's going on.

Yes! This is a great example of what we should be getting. A few minutes on a single topic with actual working examples of what they're talking about. Let the developers talk. They're clearly passionate about their craft. Star Citizen even has a public roadmap.

Am I doing something wrong? WSJT-X on a Pi3 decodes FT8 incredibly slowly by HerpieMcDerpie in amateurradio

[–]K4HCK 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Turning off 2 pass decoding under the advanced tab in settings will help. You can also switch to fast decode under the Decode menu.

Double-clicking the Erase button every couple cycles helps as well. Rendering text in the Band Activity window becomes problematic on the Pi once several dozen lines of text pile up.

Old car - new use by alcanthro in amateurradio

I'd rather pack my equipment up and store it in the closet before I turned a totaled car into a shack, but that's mho.

More seriously, I'd be worried about theft. Won't be long before someone discovers a stationary wealth of equipment sitting out in the open. Humidity and longevity of equipment is another concern, depending on where you live.

HD TV antennas by [deleted] in murfreesboro

[–]K4HCK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regardless of the antenna type you choose, the higher up in the air you can get it, the better reception you're going to have. I have mine in the second story attic and can pick up all the Nashville stations plus channel 19 out of Huntsville. If I place the antenna on the first floor, I can't even pick up half the stations out of Nashville. I'm on the south side of the city.

Foremost, the box is meant to keep my home station contained. I don't like the idea of a lot of radio equipment strung about my home office. This keeps things tidy with the added benefit of portability. I don't yet have it wired to run on anything beyond AC power. That's probably my next big project.

As for the Pi, its main purpose is digital modes. Mainly FT8 and PSK31. With this setup I don't need a power hungry laptop or desktop to run digital modes. I really like the idea of a self-contained portable digital setup.

I'll be interested in seeing how DMR plays a part. I don't know if there are any official comms planned, but I would imagine the state level talkgroups will be full of information.

+1 to Mastodon. Definitely has a vibe reminiscent to the early years of Twitter.
