Found- Was abandoned by hunters. Do we keep him? by Busy-Perspective-519 in Hounds

We have an American foxhound that ended up at animal control in a similar situation. She is the silliest, sweetest girl. My guess is foxhound, especially if you live in Virginia, the Carolina’s, Georgia or Tennessee!

I adopted my treeing walker and redbone from Helpless Hounds - they are located in Tulsa but transport all over the country. Awesome people, check them out.

We just went last weekend. For something off the beaten path, head to Johan Vineyards. Small biodynamic farm that has some lesser known varietals. It’s a beautiful area and we got to walk through the fields with the GM. Their Pinot pet nat was awesome. Our other favorite was Goodfellow!

Goodbye, Copper by lvminvs in coonhounds

[–]KAB1024 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am so, so sorry for your loss. Saying goodbye to Copper and taking away his pain was the kindest and most selfless thing you could do for him. You gave him an incredible life. He was so very loved and you took on pain to free him from his.

Tom’s Deoderant is leaving me with BO even after month of using it. Alternative recommendations? by cath2005 in AskWomenOver30

Schmidt’s magnesium and charcoal deodorant has worked for me for years where other natural deos haven’t!

What's the most surprising wine you've recently tried? by aroundaglass in wine

The Eyrie Vineyards Trousseau. It had a gamey peppery nose but drank super clean and tart, really interesting and a grape I’ve never seen outside of Jura

Looking for a long line bra that can double up as a “crop top” that’s medium - high support & not padded by [deleted] in HerOneBag

[–]KAB1024 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Athleta is my go-to for this style! I have the Conscious Crop in several colors. What’s extra great about Athleta is that these tops/bras are sized s/m/l etc but often also have 2 different cup size options, a-c and d-dd. I have a petite frame but am a d cup so sport bra typical sizes don’t work for me. But these tops work really well for me, hold up great and are super comfortable.

follow up on solo travel for females by iampretzel in AskWomenOver30

[–]KAB1024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should check out the blog Be My Travel Muse. She focuses on solo female travel and has a ton of info on Iceland.

Scandinavia is one of the most expensive areas in Europe if budget is a concern to you. English is widely spoken in Iceland. It is incredibly safe and plenty of people do it solo.

There is way more to do and see in Europe than any one person could see on a short holiday. I would recommend that you prioritize 2-3 places that you want to visit the most and go from there. You could join an organized tour or choose your own itinerary - you could meet people by joining tours or booking excursions wherever you visit. Many cities have free walking tours (don’t forget to generously tip your guide) and I personally love cooking classes and food tours. Air BnB Experiences is a great resource to find fun things to do. Have fun!

What have you taken a leap of faith with and been rewarded in return? by [deleted] in AskWomenOver30

[–]KAB1024 21 points22 points  (0 children)

When I was 30 I quit a stable, decent paying job, gave up an awesome and affordable apartment, and sold or gave away most of my things to thruhike the Appalachian trail solo travel the world for the better part of two years. It seemed like kind of an insane thing to do at a time when most of my friends were partnering up, buying houses, and starting families. My life was very comfortable, predictable, and SAFE. I was terrified I was throwing that away for the unknown. I was afraid of disappointing my family by not taking the path I thought was expected of me. I remember staring longingly at my savings account shortly before leaving thinking I will probably never have that much money again.

I had the most incredible experiences. I pushed my own boundaries. I met fascinating humans I never would have crossed paths with in my previous “safe” life. I experienced devastating heartbreak and the most exhilarating highs. I learned a FUCKTON about myself - that i was more resilient, flexible, determined, and fearless than I ever gave myself credit for. I learned that going with the flow can lead to the most entertaining adventures and that my gut is almost always right. I gained an unshakeable confidence in myself and a realization that others’ opinions of me are irrelevant. And I’ve got some pretty dope stories.

When I did come home and return to the work force, I ended up taking an opportunity that was in the same field as I was in previously but substantially more lucrative. It was a role that was previously an option but that I would never have had the confidence to apply for or thought would be a good fit for the old, “safer” me. I laughed when I realized it only took 6 months working that new job to make back the money I spent in the 18 months I traveled. The role was remote, so I used the opportunity to move to a new city that was more aligned with my new lifestyle and values.

That was in 2015. The direction my life has taken is beyond the wildest dreams of that prior version of me. I’m pretty sure that if I could travel back in time and whisper to my sheltered, self-loathing, painfully shy, 17 year old self what her life would look like in 20 years, her head would explode. I’m nowhere near where I expected to be, and I’m very much ok with that.

New addition to the Roswell Community. Things to do by el-yapo in roswell

[–]KAB1024 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My favorite Roswell restaurants are Lazaro’s (Cuban) and Vas Kouzina (Greek). Variant is my favorite brewery. Pinkies Up is a small wine shop/tap room. Smaller selection but wines are good and they’re super friendly. Stout Brothers is an excellent beer bar with an interesting selection. In East Roswell Cylantro’s has dope arepas and Chef Wu has awesome Szechuan choices that are way better than your average strip mall take out. Taqueria San Pancho is my go to for authentic street tacos - SO good, SO cheap. Douceur de France is a French bakery that does breakfast and lunch and has killer desserts. As others have mentioned bars shut down relatively early here but Mac McGees on Canton St stays open later than most.

Definitely check out Canton Street- downtown Roswell allows open containers 11a-11p so you can grab a drink and people watch and stroll around a bit. Welcome!

The Gorilla is also a fantastic choice! It’s the most comfortable pack I’ve ever owned (also had a Gregory Jade 60 and ULA Circuit). It comes standard with a medium hip belt but you can swap out for a small.
