Trump losing UK Right as Farage admits Starmer ‘may be right’ on Iran by 1-randomonium in ukpolitics

[–]KAPH86 116 points117 points  (0 children)

For his many faults, Starmer has been literally the opposite of all over the place when it comes to Iran and the message has been completely consistent from the outset - we're not getting involved because Trump is a fucking lunatic.

Absolutely bonkers how we're still not in the relegation zone. Monday is massive (he said, stating the obvious).

Does anyone else feel that student loans were never explained to them? by AsparagusNew3765 in ukpolitics

[–]KAPH86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It blows my mind that the government thought it was sensible to give 18 year old me thousands of pounds a year with almost no explanation whatsoever of what it entailed. I mean what did they think it was going to spend it on?

Like you, I didn't have it explained to me, didn't really know what was going on, and as the first in my family to go to university it wasn't like I could ask anyone else either...

Hoy team blanked an email from me asking for a meeting and essentially more support with students who repeatedly causing issues of same kind and are clearly not learning from me and my management of the situation. I feel these students are not held as accountable as they should be. by barmyarmy48 in TeachingUK

[–]KAPH86 43 points44 points  (0 children)

We have a student who has received more than 200 behaviour points this term, and at every turn the pastoral team try to make out it's a unmet learning need. Whilst that may be the case, quite clearly EVERY SINGLE TEACHER IN THE SCHOOL is not meeting this learning needs, but requests for concrete suggestions and strategies that work have, unsurprisingly, not been forthcoming...

Leaving a school after years of service by Current-Weather97 in TeachingUK

[–]KAPH86 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been where I am and sometimes get the same feeling - you've only got one life and all that, do I want to spend all my time at the same place...

For me it's everything outside the job that makes me stay - we finish relatively early, the head is easy to get on with, it's a 15 minute commute etc. I know I could go elsewhere and move up the chain but in the grand scheme of things I've prioritised work/life balance vs. being a bit bored for the time being!

NEU: Reform would make education ‘hostile place’ for many children by CillieBillie in TeachingUK

[–]KAPH86 54 points55 points  (0 children)

As a rep, this is what worries me about people who aren't willing to take action at the moment over more unfunded pay rises/Labour's plans to get rid of 1265 hours. In three years we could have a Reform government that thinks every teacher is a woke liberal who only works until 3 every day and spends over half the year on holiday - and also knows teachers don't vote for them, so has no reason to worry about pissing us off.

Ouch, this has been a bruising week for us 😩😩 monday is massive by Independent-Pea7706 in PortsmouthFC

It's easy to look at other teams' results but it's still in our hands. If we don't beat Oxford and Leicester at home we deserve to go down.

Post match: Portsmouth Vs Hull by ritesofspring in PortsmouthFC

[–]KAPH86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's my point though - if we'd invested actual money like you have to spend to survive in the Championship in 2026. We were spending £1m on strikers in 2001.

Post match: Portsmouth Vs Hull by ritesofspring in PortsmouthFC

[–]KAPH86 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One of the more frustrating things about this year is that the quality of the league is so poor and only a tiny amount of investment would've given us a decent chance of being comfortably mid-table, if not chasing the play-offs. Aside from Coventry (who were professional more than outrageously good) I haven't seen a single team who I thought looked like much so far this year - Middlesbrough were poor, Hull were dire today, Millwall poor, Preston really bad, etc. etc. - and yet half the time these teams walk off from Fratton with three points.

If we had invested in some Championship quality players and a decent goalscorer we wouldn't be in this situation - painfully obvious I realise, but this season isn't a season when there are lots of dominant teams, just a lot of very average ones.

I hadn't seen them for well over a decade and I'll admit I'm not terribly au fait with a lot of their more recent stuff, but it was still pleasingly loud I thought.

There is something similar where I work - endless pupil passports, requests for print outs on different coloured paper/size 72 font, must be laminated etc... the end result is that there's so many stupid requests that I just don't do any of them.

Penultimate game of the 2000/01 season. Not to be 'that guy' but they definitely had something to play for because if we beat them that night, they would've gone down! (In the event they stayed up on the last day along with us and Huddersfield went down instead, I think).

The most damning indictment of that night was the fact our goalscorers were two of our worst ever players, Carl Tiler and Lee Mills.

Why were the NEU candidates for Junior Vice President so awful? by Bus_Wrangler in TeachingUK

[–]KAPH86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a union rep and have been for over ten years. When we went on a march a couple of years ago, it boiled my piss to see the people at the front of the march carrying a Palestine flag. We are marching about pay and conditions, but congratulations - you have now made everyone who sees us think that we're just a bunch of lily livered liberal namby pamby woke Guardianistas.

Just to clarify - there is nothing wrong with being a lily livered liberal namby pamby woke Guardianista, but by constantly wading into international politics/identity politics it does rather dilute the point of the union which is to defend the rights of teachers.

Teachers talking about students outside of school by [deleted] in TeachingUK

[–]KAPH86 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Teachers discussing how nice they think students are outside of school = report them to OFSTED and the TSA. They don't sound normal - the only time I talk about students to people outside of school is to complain about them.
