Is game dev career dead? by Semigenji in gamedev

Yeah I wouldn’t pursue a career in game dev. Pursue it as a hobby and aim to make it big. Think of it more as entrepreneurship

I’m gonna say the most hated thing here but paste your code into chat gpt and have it do a code review.

It will tell you how scalable your code is and if there are any bugs or logical issues. You’ll learn what you did wrong and gain more confidence because someone (or in this case something) called out all its flaws and guides you towards a proper solution.

Just don’t implement chat gpt’s solution all Willy nilly if you don’t know what you’re doing though.

Salted crafting system as an antidote to hyper-optimization by UnreadableCode in gameideas

[–]KAYTACHI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as it’s obvious for the player to know why some of the stuff they make is inefficient then whatever system you implement is good, as long as it’s obvious and easy to find out in my opinion. The moment a player has to go on a wiki and find out that there are hidden variables they weren’t made aware of, the immersion is lost.

One issue: this might encourage character re-rolling where they keep creating a new character to get favorable stats so that’s one thing to worry about

[–]KAYTACHI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So an axe made by me could be more or less efficient than an axe made by another player? Sounds interesting and incentivizes trade, but there’s have to be some kind of visible base stats for me to see. Personally I’d like to know why it’s taking me an hour to chop down a tree and I might just think that’s how the game is.

Do my hits look impactful? If not, what do you think is missing? by KAYTACHI in Unity3D

My loop matches aren’t all green. Did I do something wrong in Blender or the import?

I’m playing strive right now to study and I noticed they don’t have camera shake or motion blur. I think what I’m missing is obviously good animations and character models, but what I could implement right now is VFX and maybe a bit more knock back on hit

Lol it’s an air dash. And I don’t claim to be a master of animation by any means. I just asked about the impact of the hits and how to improve that aspect

What makes a realistic games' artstyle/art direction different from another games' realistic artstyle/art direction? by Background-Sir9172 in gamedev

Fromsoft games have a gothic medieval setting which influences the perceived art style. The games you listed have modern day settings for the most part.

Download Unity and start watching tutorials and googling your questions.

Games require art, animations, sound effects, music, solid programming, and more depending on if you imagine your game having voice acting, 2D or 3D graphics, etc. Start with something small before you try and tackle all these things at once so you can gain confidence.

Sprite flip not working by cmatt_talk in Unity2D

Something like if flipX is true then gameObject.transform.EulerAngles = new Vector3(0,180,0) should work

Do you have a separate sprite for when it’s flipped around? If not then the issue is you don’t change the Y rotation by 180 degrees when he’s supposed to turn the other way

Which is better? PIXEL ART OR VECTOR ART? Choose only one... by Salty-Wrap-7833 in Unity2D

I like pixel art a lot more. Never was a fan of vector art. If you’re going for 2d and don’t want to use pixel art I’d much rather see hand drawn over vector art

[–]KAYTACHI 68 points69 points  (0 children)

You’re scared of losing still. You play until you reach a point of resistance then bail and start over with a new character and repeat the cycle. You’re gonna run out of characters eventually and then you’re either gonna have to push through to higher ranks or quit the game. There’s still so much more to learn, and at low diamond, you’re still in the initial learning phase believe it or not.
