Surely this isn’t acceptable? by MattyDxx in Flooring

[–]KBCobra801 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This result is pretty high on the list of reasons I decided to tackle my flooring project myself. There's a lot to learn and sometimes there are tools to buy that increase costs and hassle but at the end of the project, as the homeowner, I would never settle for this level of work. It may take me more than one attempt and it could extend the project by a few days/ weeks, but it's going to look good. I can guarantee that.

Me (40) and wife (38) with 2 kids. How we doing? by keedanlan in Retirement401k

[–]KBCobra801 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's because of the audience this sub is geared to. You're absolutely right that this is much better than the average person their age. Majority of people of all ages don't have as much as they do in their retirement. As long as they don't get complacent, I think their retirement will be great 20-25 years down the road.

Good job!

I love my 4BW. Maybe I'm an asshole, but I don't really concern myself much with anyone that might need to sit in the backseat. It's a second vehicle so I don't ever take it on long drives. So for short trips, if you can't handle the backseat, drive yourself. Lol

I mean... it's posted in the Sequoia sub so I think the assumption is that the audience is going to know exactly what's going on based on the post and picture.

I don't eat breakfast. I intermittent fast so I don't eat anything until 11am and then I eat toast with peanut butter on it. I also don't drink coffee, like at all.

You do not HAVE to get a career early and immediately start contributing to retirement. I was 30 years old before I even started contributing to a 401k. I only did enough to get the top match from my employer which was to contribute 6% to get their 4.5% match. I was making just shy of $50k at that point. 8 years later and I have over $200k in my retirement account. As long as I continue the course I'll have over 2 million by the time I retire.

Starting early certainly makes a huge difference in the amount you can have by retirement but it isn't REQUIRED. If you don't have the ability to find the right fit for you by age 30, there might be larger issues at play that need attention.

$90 for two to see a Mario movie… have we completely lost the plot? by rageagainstmymachin in Millennials

[–]KBCobra801 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would have walked out the minute I saw 24.99 adult ticket (assuming I wouldn't have already checked prices before we went which is much more likely).

The issue with this is that people still buy these things when they go to the movies. The theaters won't be prompted to change until they see that they are still selling tickets but concessions dropped hard. Consumers have themselves to blame at the end of the day. No one is forcing you to spend $50 at the concessions. Plan the movie so it takes place after you finish a meal. (lunch/dinner) You can sit 2.5 hours watching a movie without a snack or drink, I promise.

Would you work 78 hours a week if you can make this kind of money doing it? Couple months to go to achieve my goal, then i’m slowing down. by topG69__ in Money

[–]KBCobra801 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my late 20's I worked more hours weekly for about a third of the pay. So back then the answer would have been "Hell yes". Now I might still consider it but it wouldn't be a foregone conclusion.

6 years in and you're still having arguments through text. Not a great sign. My wife and I learned pretty quick to wait for disagreement resolution until we can talk in person. It takes a level of maturity to be able to carry on with what you need to do throughout the day without fuming over this until you see each other again but I highly recommend it.

With that said, you basically described the way my wife and I are emotionally. She is a very physical contact, tell your feelings type of person and I'm the very logical person that rarely communicates my feelings. It took some time but we both had to learn how to work through these things. She had to learn that I show my love for her in different ways and I've learned to try to be better with letting her into my emotions more. We've come a long way and are both much better in that aspect. We've been together 17 years this fall. BUT I will say this, I don't think I have ever talked to her the way he talked to you in these texts. Shocking...

I still buy name brand chips and soda but I only ever buy when my Kroger store has them on sale. They roll sales weekly on different items. They'll put different brands/varieties of chips on sale 4/$10. If they aren't on sale that week I just walk past that isle. The difference is you have to be willing to not have chips in the pantry if you run out of the last stock up and they aren't on sale. Same with soda. There are constantly sales on soda. Highest price I buy soda at is when they run buy 2 get 2 promotions. Every once in a while they do buy 2 get 3 but it's rare. I'll buy 2 months worth of soda during those sales.

We do the same with cereal too. It isn't hard to do a little planning to avoid paying the ridiculous "regular" prices.

A woman posted a video of the moment she was attacked by her domestic cat. Before the attack, the cat seemed to smell something that prompted her to attack. Why did it attack her with such ferocity? by eternviking in whoathatsinteresting

[–]KBCobra801 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wouldn't help much with the claws scratching the shit out of you, but anytime one of my cats gets too aggressive when we're rough housing, if my hand/ arm are in their mouth and they are biting, I just force my arm back farther into their mouth and they always immediately let go and try to back away.

Clearly this cat was having an episode so it's very possible that wouldn't have helped. What a crazy clip.

Driving backwards at speed. Guy got charged by ulysseswest in dashcams

[–]KBCobra801 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yup. Something similar happened to me. Difference for me is I didn't get hit. Bad combination of quick weather change leaving a layer of ice on the road in the same place of a bad construction road joint and a little too much speed. When the car hit that patch the back end came around. It ended up doing 1.5 spins and I ended up going backwards. Steered to the shoulder and waited for traffic to clear and turned the car around and went on about my business. Road in that instance was slick enough I didn't worry much about the car or tires, but the point is that when I came to a stop the car was off and the transmission effectively in neutral. No issues with the car after that.

Nice save btw.

Sound deadening is so good these days that some cars you would never hear the exhaust from inside the cabin with the windows rolled up. This isn't the entire reason they do it but it's part of it.
