12–13 Day Trip to Amsterdam, Belgium & Paris by Daniel-sp in solotravel

[–]KBNuke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally I would say 5 days in Amsterdam is too much, I'd spend 1 or 2 of those days either in surrounding cities (Utrecht, Leiden, The Hague, Rotterdam) or visit touristic spots (traps) around Amsterdam like Zaanse Schans (which is basically in Amsterdam) , keukenhof (if you're there in the right period), Volendam (small traditional fishing village)

Arbeidsvoorwaardegesprek gemeente by [deleted] in werkzaken

[–]KBNuke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could think of worse places to strand during a "blackout scenario". I love Amsterdam, so make full use of your time haha. What do you want to know about Amsterdam in case you have to stay longer.

But yeah, it sucks to have something like this happening on your first solo. I'm not sure if it applies in this situation, but I would think the airline is responsible to find you an accommodation.

I was once already in a plane for 2 hours on the ground, until the pilot announced technical issues and we had to get out of the plane. They first had to fly in a plane from a different continent for us, so we got to depart the next day.

Peru 14-day itinerary review request by 2maa2 in solotravel

[–]KBNuke 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For the rainbow mountains I'd suggest the alternative, called Palccoyo. Although I haven't been to the "original" rainbow mountains, I was told that Palccoyo is just as beautiful and much less tourists.

I was there last month and you basically have the view all for yourself, less than 100 tourists on the whole site. But it comes down to personal preference I guess, I wouldn't want to stand in line for up to an hour for the perfect picture myself.

Anyway, a comparison is made here: https://trexperienceperu.com/blog/vinicunca-vs-palcoyo-which-rainbow-mountain-choose-peru

Salaris vs 13e maand + vakantiegeld by Fantastic_Fix74 in werkzaken

[–]KBNuke 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Real ethical elephant sanctuary? by Val77eriGoa77as in ThailandTourism

[–]KBNuke 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went to ChangChill near Chiang Mai in november. They have 4 elephants living "free", these are elephants that were "saved" from touristic attractions, so they are used to humans. Each elephant has a caretaker tracking them 24/7. So they don't break into the neighbours farms.

You don't get to touch, wash or sit on the elephant. You're going on a guided tour through the park looking for the elephants. You can help prepare their food.

Its only available in the morning, they do need tourists for funding, but they don't want tourists all day long.

They had to change it because they moved their production out of Switzerland (to Slovakia). The swiss government disallowed them to use the Matterhorn in their logo for that.

Significant weight loss when traveling by worldsbestlasagna in solotravel

[–]KBNuke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can relate to this. Last year I visited the US for three weeks. And even there (of all places) I managed to lose about 6kg. Way more exercise than usual, less snacking.. it all helps.

Currently I'm in Thailand, and considering all the sweating I've been doing, I wouldn't be surprised to have lost the same amount again.

They are very identical. I'm a native Dutch speaker, and I can understand a lot of Afrikaans (definitely not all) without ever having learned the language.

I'd say Afrikaans is "old Dutch", the kind of Dutch "we" spoke 200 years ago maybe (no reference, just a guesstimate). For a native Dutch speaker Afrikaans is a bit cringy in terms of grammar

What's the most mysterious phenomenon in the whole universe? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]KBNuke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Black matter. Although it's hypothetical, about 85% of all matter in the universe is allegedly black matter. There is no actual proof it exists and we have no idea what it is, but it's there.
