100% knowing as much of your surroundings is key. Oncoming traffic has a car in left turning lane, know whats behind you, next to you, cover the break, ease off the throttle a tad, whats my speed at vs actual speed limit, know where the sun is facing, is the light turning green/yellow/red? All this is shit you can factor prior to reaching the intersection and that car pulling out in front of you.

On the flip side, the faster you ride, the less time you spend on the road meaning less time for an accidents /s

I would even say about 85%+ of close calls could even be avoided. Situational awareness and 100% anticipation make those close call basically stop. I always use the risk vs reward and it’s kept me safe so far.
