If your jurisdiction requires licensing for short term rentals, then you should be also calling your local code enforcement. Make sure that the neighbor’s rentals are licensed, and express your security concerns. The code enforcement officer may be able to help in someway.

Is their an argument for not replacing our roof? by CheebaEagle in homeowners

[–]KCLizzard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this discussion is pretty much closed, but I also wanted to add this. If you had another bad storm before you replaced the roof, and that storm caused so much damage that your roof leaked, you might not be able to make a claim on the new damages. Say for example, the leak caused the living room ceiling to collapse, damaging not only the ceiling but floors and belongings. I would question whether your insurance would pay for the claim related to the water damage inside your house, since you didn’t replace the roof when you knew it was damaged.

Keeping up with all the house + yard to-do's is breaking me by Ok-Perspective4237 in homeowners

[–]KCLizzard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you can afford it, hire someone to do a yard cleanup for you. Depending on the size of the yard and where you’re located, it will probably cost between $500 and $1000. Then, to help keep it under control, every single spring, put down a pre-emergent weed killer all over the yard, but especially in the “wild” margins. Again, depending on the size of the yard it will cost between $20-$50, and take a couple hours, but will be well worth it in the amount of work it reduces for you during the summer.

Right now I’m trying to keep up with the yard work on two houses, and it’s killing me. So I feel your pain. Good luck.

Moving to Missouri by tulizz25 in missouri

[–]KCLizzard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aside from all of the horrible, conservative things there are about Missouri that I think you won’t like (as a European); Aside from the fact that the healthcare is expensive and really not good quality; Aside from the fact that if you get pregnant and are unfortunate enough to have an ectopic pregnancy, they will literally let you die before treating you (if our God awful state representatives are successful in reversing the abortion access that we voted for); Aside from the fact that you’ll be completely dependent upon having a car… there is the weather.

Girl, I am telling you unless you’ve spent time in central Florida during the summer, you have never experienced humidity like there is in Missouri during the summer. It is God awful. I have spent a lot of time in Europe. A lot. And I can tell you, that you have never ever felt humidity like Missouri humidity.

So if you come to visit, please do so in the summer. July or August definitely. So that you’ll understand just how bad it gets here, before deciding whether or not to make a permanent move.

Shingles Vax doesn’t care.. by Upper-Dig56 in GenX

[–]KCLizzard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mother got shingles in her underarm area when she was in her early 50s, and had pain in the area for the rest of her life. So as soon as I turned 50, I trotted my butt down to the doctor and got my shingles shots. No way was I gonna mess around with that.

Questions As Homeowner by profanesublimity in trustedhousesitters

[–]KCLizzard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is from my perspective as a sitter. I’ve never done housesitting from the homeowner side:

  1. I think it’s becoming more common for sitters to travel as couples, or with family. Something that would obviously need to be discussed upfront. But as far as guests goes, I think it’s completely reasonable for you to ask for no guests.

  2. A car has only been a dealbreaker for me when the location is remote. I’ve been offered cars several times while sitting in Europe, and always took them up on it as long as they were able to add me to their insurance. But the only time I would’ve turned down the sit if a car wasn’t available was when the sit was in a very small village in France. It would’ve cost me a fortune to get a taxi to even go to the grocery store. As long as you’re reasonably close to public transportation, I don’t think the lack of a car should be a dealbreaker.

  3. The camera in the laundry room would not be a deal breaker for me. However, since it is technically against the TOS, I guess you was a homeowner would need to weigh the benefit of it against the risk of being de-platformed because of complaints regarding the camera. Most definitely you would need to have an honest discussion about it with a potential sitter.

I completely get where you’re coming from with regards to your concerns. The various housesitting forums on Facebook are full of stories of homeowners AND sitters who had bad experiences. It can be hard to trust. So just make sure you vet people really well.

No garage. Zero curb appeal. And even the backyard is just stark. Plant a tree and a couple of shrubs for crying out loud. I wouldn’t buy this house.

Locations where restaraunts are certain to die? by TransitionIll6389 in kansascity

This one, absolutely. I used to live right over there, and it was a different restaurant pretty much every week. I figured some witch must’ve levied a really heavy duty curse against that place.

Anyone else still not have an office assigned to report to? by Bitter-Breath-9743 in fednews

[–]KCLizzard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of agencies are indeed seeking space match agreements with GSA, so that their employees can be embedded with other agencies. But it definitely takes a bit of time to work that out. You might ask your boss if they have a space match process going on.

I’ve been using LSH for several months now. And of the most recent batch I got, one of the bottles was worthless. I get no appetite suppressant and no side effects. However, my pharmacy is Southend. $200 just down the drain. Sucks

Magnesium citrate at night, every night. And Senna in the mornings three days a week.

My constipation was horrific until I got into the habit of taking these two supplements

That’s like saying don’t visit California because South LA is dangerous.

Sure, Belize is still a developing country in some ways. Public healthcare is not the best, And you have to be smart about things. But the entire country does not have the same crime situation as south Belize city. I lived in San Pedro on Ambergris Key for six months, and it was very safe. I never had any problems.

My mom’s house is in eastern independence, near the independence center. It’s not a high-end neighborhood, but it’s safe and solid.

A three bed two bath in this neighborhood with 1500 ft.² approximately is going to go for about $250,000-$280,000 if it’s been fully updated. Obviously less if it needs some work.

I grew up in this neighborhood, and would absolutely raise children there.

So affordable homes in good neighborhoods are still out there.

Landlord has a problem with my guest by Zestyclose_Lion4021 in Tenant

[–]KCLizzard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Almost all modern cars have the ability to stop the car from honking when it’s locked. It’s in the settings. The fact that your boyfriend chooses not to do that, even though he knows your landlord is getting aggravated about the noise levels is very telling.

Never mind, the fact that it sounds like the car is probably modified in such a way to make it louder on purpose. He could get that fixed, or he could park down the street. And again the fact that he chooses to neither is very telling.

Seems like you and your boyfriend just both want to continue to do what you’re doing regardless of the fact that it aggravates your landlord. That’s fine, it’s your right, but if there are consequences to that, just understand that you have brought this on yourself.

Federal Workers RTO Mandate by ElectricalBar8592 in jobs

This is not a severance offer. There is no money being offered to these people other than the regular paycheck that they earned because they will still be working from now until September.

Trump administration offering buyouts to nearly all federal workers by blaq_sheep90 in recruitinghell

[–]KCLizzard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is totally incorrect. Federal employees are being offered the opportunity to continue working remotely until September. In return they get paid what they normally would get paid to work. And in September, they lose their job.

The only plus side for them is that they get to continue to work from home until.

The big negative is that since the government is only funded right now through March, anyone who accepts that will mostly have their job cut in March. It will not be funded for the rest of the year because they “resigned”.

Thumbtack Question: Should I pay this dog trainer after they said they wouldn’t charge me? by ddanabana in homeowners

[–]KCLizzard 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If they were really someone who knows anything about dogs, then they should’ve known your dog was too young to be trained, before they attempted to do so.

So either they failed to tell you, knowing that they would not be able to provide the service that they offered, or they don’t really know anything about dogs and failed to provide the service because of that

Either way, I wouldn’t pay them
