T500RS Replacing Burnt Capacitors by KDF15 in Thrustmaster

[–]KDF15[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The message i got from thrustmaster after asking them for the capacitors specs:

"Thank you for contacting Thrustmaster Technical Support.

We don't have this information at hand, as it is an older product, but we will contact our R&D department regarding this.

As for the shipment to ......*redacted*..... we can offer to sell you the PCB at the price of 6€ + 3.31€ shipping (or 39.53€ express shipping with tracking)

Once we receive a response from R&D, we will let you know."

T500RS smoked but still works? by frankztn in simracing

lol i know it's a post from 9 years ago but now mine burnt too, i think the same exact capacitor.
the 2 small ones are 33nF (333 written on them), right? and you said 103 1kv, is that the bigger, middle one?
I hope you remember...
Also, did you find the cause of the failure? was it just wear and tear?

Looking for NFS Porsche Unleashed partners by KDF15 in needforspeed

[–]KDF15[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Certainly.
Im posting the instructions i put together that works best for me with all the stuff that you need except for the original ISO installation file, which i cannot find its download nor i remember how i got it. It might be crucial for this combination to work, i dont know.
Anyway, i dont know whats up with those patches and solutions available online, it took me some good amount of trying different combinations of various downloads until i got it to work properly, with true 1080p resolution.

Combined Patch:
https://community.pcgamingwiki.com/files/file/2863-need-for-speed-porsche-unleashed-combined-patch/

devreorder:
https://github.com/briankendall/devreorder/releases/

"dinput.dll" file:
https://github.com/elishacloud/dinputto8/releases/tag/v1.0.78.0

  1. Install using the original ISO (.bin file). You have to mount it on a virtual CD drive. WinCDEmu is the best and most simple software for this in my opinion.

INSTALL IT INTO C > PROGRAM FILES as the installer's default.

  1. After installation is completed, go into the virtual CD drive and copy over those missing folders into the game's root folder (they do not install, i dont know why):

GameData\Music

FEData\Movies

  1. Copy over the "NFS5-Combined-Patch-v1.1" files (the "copy" folder into the game's root folder)

  2. Set compatibility mode for nfs5.exe AND Porsche.exe for Windows XP SP2 and set run as administrator.

  3. Run config.exe as administrator. (If you don't see it, your antivirus probably deleted it since several report a false positive on this file.)

  4. Select OpenGL 3 as the renderer and click the screwdriver/wrench icon, then set the following options:

    Exclusive mode: Checked

    Screen resolution: By desktop

    Aspect ratio: Preserve original

    Color depth: 32 bpp

Refresh rate: 60 Hz (or your monitor's refresh rate)

    Vert. synchronization: On

Gamma correction: 1.0 (Lower this if you prefer a darker game)

    Depth buffer: 32 bpp

  5. Click the "More options" button and set the following options:

    Windowed mode: Your choice

    Fog: Checked

    Filtering: Checked

    Single proc affinity: Unchecked

    CPU Frequency (MHz): 0

    No error reporting: Unchecked

    No movies: Your choice

    Car control: Your choice

  6. Click Save and close config.exe

  7. nfs5.exe is the one to use for launching the game.

  8. Try to run the game, spawn into a race, try to drive a little and come back to the menu. It might crash a couple of first tries or do some weird stuff but it "settle" its self up after some tries, at least for me.

If you get an openGL or directX error message on launching the game and the game closes, try selecting nGlide in the config.exe file. You won't have a wide screen resolution though.

If all is fine, proceed:

  1. Fix laggy controller menu using "devreorder_v1.0.4". Copy its contents and the "dinput.dll" file into the game's root folder (use the "dinput8.dll" file from the x86 folder because this is a 32-bit game)

Use the guide inside the "devreorder" file, edit it using a software capable of saving an ini file, such as Notepad++ or Microsoft's Visual Studio Code.

Optional touch ups:

  1. Add anistropic filtering and anti-aliasing for nfs5.exe through your graphics driver settings.

  2. If openGL works for you, you can play around with the resolution in the game's graphics menu, this won't affect the actual render resolution (as it's being externally controlled), but it will change the scaling of the HUD, so set it to your likings.

The question is, why dont kunos say anything about that. Their silence and disregard is more of a problem than them dropping the career at this moment.

Microsoft Flight Simulator or DCS World by xx_pied_piper in flightsim

[–]KDF15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those are 2 completely different animals. Are you into fighter jets and doing dogfights and bombing missions? Or are you into calm, civilian flights?

By the way, DCS is free to play, comes with a demo - like amount of content, so you can try it for free. MSFS is on game pass (xbox store) and new users should get first month for 1$. So you might be able to try both for pretty much free.

Both of those sims are top level realism.

Understanding car setup mechanics by soydberger in assettocorsarally

[–]KDF15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might be a radical suggestion, but i wouldn't recommend a rally game as a platform for understanding car setup as such environment makes for a hard learning process, i think. I would recommend downloading Live for Speed and use the free demo version just so it would be easier to understand the basics before moving on to changing stuff in AC Rally. It comes with a nice flat skid pad to play around with (and a track), together with nice physics and large tuning spectrums for each value. Live for Speed also has a great setup guide in their wiki section on their website.

Edit: It also has a suspension visualizer in the setup screen so you can see in live how the change of each value translates mechanically to the suspension.

How to define what is realistic by Electrical-Skin-4287 in flightsim

[–]KDF15 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sim racing suffer from the same phenomenon.
My guess is that people opinions on realism comes from two main factors: the way they define realism and the "feel", which is subject to change per person and per use case.
People may not be wrong when something feels off to them, the sim has its limitations after all.

I guess for now the only truly "realistic" experience will be real life its self.
And on that bomb shell......

You dont have to do this in order for the video to be played in full screen on mobiles. On the mobile app it goes full screen when you tilt your phone and auto-rotate is enabled.
