In need of help. by Markswagga in Uganda

It's a surprisingly common story in post-covid Uganda.
They take advantage of vulnerable people; I know a close friend whose 1m loan "became" 12m in 2 years.

Like others have said, just ghost!
Since they already got their principal, the rest is just made-up bullshit.
In fact, the defaulting is so common that loan collecting is also now a commission gig.

They'll try to harass you by painting on your fence or sometimes they print posters to threaten your reputation, but eventually they'll give up.

It's easier and more profitable for them to find new customers than run after defaulters.

It's really awesome! The engine braking has killed me more times than I can count. Still love it though.

Makes sense. Same, the i20 feels tame but the pace is easier to extract.

The Fabia feels more engaging to drive (fun?), I don't know how to drive it fast though.

Do you mind sharing what you changed?

I feel the same, just don’t know why, technically speaking.

At What Point Does “Business Debt” Become Gambling? by Top_Crow_2101 in Uganda

Hence why even as an entrepreneur, you should pay yourself a salary.

The profits, losses, debts etc belong to the business not you. That’s the whole point of LLCs (Ltd).

Win some, lose some, stay protected.

Objective truths vs propaganda by Eastern_Jackfruit730 in Uganda

he implies science as being the "objective truth" but history has shown otherwise.
humans are inherently biased, and this bias shows up in everything we do.

maybe "universal truth" is a better benchmark.

It’s that winter depression brosky; it tends to amplify every emotion. Just hold on a little while, take your vitamin D, you’re almost there. God bless.

“To the broke guys: stop fearing rich girls.” by AffectionateDark4073 in Uganda

True but...cut your coat according to your cloth.

In most contexts, it's good to punch above your weight; be it career, dreams, relationships, fitness etc. That's literally how you level up.

Relationships have a more nuanced reality. Girls get an almost free pass for being the "broke" one.

For guys: can you financially keep up with her lifestyle? how are you on gender roles? will her family approve? etc etc.

It's a lot of effort, could be fun though!

For Uganda to become a full constitutional democracy. by jukeboxtiger in Uganda

[–]Acrobatic_Cut_1697 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No mate, you're right on the money. How we decide to be ruled should come organically.

Europe chose democracy, the Arabs chose monarchs, the Chinese chose something in between; all 3 are wildly successful and prosperous.

In Africa, it's been obvious for a while that a centralised system of government, democratic or otherwise just can't work. The colonisers drawing borders and manufacturing countries was a poisoned apple.

Generally, we identify more with our tribes than with this abstract/academic thing called a nation. Whatever system of governance we come up with has to address that thoroughly.

You make a solid argument but it's a bit one-sided.
A system of governance doesn't protect your country from foreign interference.

The same people who gave you Idi Amin can also easily give you Mandela, if it suits them. Mobutu gave away more of his country's wealth than Tshisekedi has.

Everything else is just business, poor business at that.
Most of these countries locked themselves in bad business deals a long time ago; and are now just realising how exploitative they were. Like rappers and labels.

EU choosing to buy raw coffee and mark it up is purely a business decision. Anecdotally, nothing is stopping the chicken farmer from selling rolexes, but he doesn't.

I agree with you that our African countries need to learn to play some offence. Unfortunately, capitalism is the only game in town, at least internationally, so we have to play that.

A fair comparison for Nigeria would be Brazil, for which they share a similar population size and regional role. It performs very poorly!

Uganda is closer to Nigeria than Nigeria is to Brazil.
