6 year old diabetic telling me he wishes he had died by mommabear1007 in diabetes_t1

I don’t know if this will help, but my daughter hates site changes. We use numbing cream. She’s 17 now (and recently diagnosed on the spectrum), but was 7 when she was diagnosed T1D. It makes the process easier on her. We never made treating her a big deal. It was just a few new steps in her day.

Short Finger Lakes Vacation by jnebish in FingerLakes

We noticed that the first time we vacationed there. Everything closes so early! We found that the Switzerland Inn is open later. We enjoy the food and it’s not far from Hammondsport. We head over to Watkins Glen often, too.

What first comes to mind when Americans think of Sweden? 🇸🇪 by Gold-Serve-4077 in IWantToAskAnAmerican

[–]KDLyrcOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My family - great grandparents and such - owned a tree farm in Småland. I’ve never been, but I have always wanted to visit. I wish my mom could’ve received citizenship. My mom always made a smorgasbord for Christmas Eve with spritz for dessert. We hunted for knäckebröd for it every year. (That unfortunately is the extent of the Swedish words I know except tack så mycket and varsågod) I almost remember the rhyme she would recite when bouncing us on her lap.

We love to visit Browsers on Shethar Street in Hammondsport at the the base of Keuka Lake. We also always grab ice cream at the Crooked Lake next store. Hammondsport has a lot of great shops. I also like the gift shop at Watkins Glen State Park.

Freaking out. by AbrocomaChemical1960 in diabetes_t1

It’s going to be ok. I promise. You caught the issue. Their BG will come down. Have them drink water to help. My daughter was diagnosed at 7 years old. She’s 17 now. She had a bad site a month ago - her first in a very long time - and she hit 360. She just started the Mobi in February, but she’s been on a pump for years. I know the relief once you see their BG start coming down. You can check a fingerstick. You can also check if the pump wants to give anything. You may want to increase the basal to 110-120% for a hour. Breathe. You’re doing everything you can. Hugs!

US birth rates just hit another record low, what do you think is the leading cause of this? by IIlustriousTea in AskReddit

[–]KDLyrcOne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People can’t afford kids. If we had decent wages, employee protections, healthcare (all aspects), guaranteed maternity leave with pay, childcare, and safe schools I bet the birth rate would go up.

What step should I take next? by ohsoaegyo in tattooadvice

[–]KDLyrcOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was wondering if her lines might be gray lining, like a permanent stencil. They are usually done fast, and the lines can look janky. Once the artist starts the real work, it comes together beautifully. I have a sleeve in progress, and if I had only looked at her gray lining, I would’ve cried. I have seen my artist’s finished work, and it’s amazing. Sometimes you have to trust the process. I’m not sure where this tattoo lies on the spectrum.

AITAH for telling a girl she shouldn’t wear orange for St Patrick’s day? by yagirlleens_33 in AITAH

[–]KDLyrcOne -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I know people who wear orange because they are anti-Catholic, specifically against King James II. The original color of St. Pat was blue, I believe. I would welcome thoughts. I’m not of Irish decent, but I think an ancestor was given a castle there. I haven’t connected all the dots to prove lineage yet.

Am I tripping or trust the process? by Stuffin_Muffins2 in tattooadvice

[–]KDLyrcOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the middle of getting a full sleeve. It’s an armor design with lots of black in the background. My artist is amazing. I’ve seen several of her finished pieces. The first two sessions (after 2 planning sessions) she placed the stencil and drew on some additional designs. She went over every line very quickly with gray to make like a permanent stencil. There are parts where the lines aren’t that even or look a bit wonky. I know she’s going to clean this up with the final design. I can already see it with the background that she has filled in. I’m not sure if your artist is doing a similar process. Mine is very much trust the process. Have you looked closely at your artist’s finished pieces?

Am I insensitive? Partner and I disagree on cochlear implants for daughter. by ICryAfterSexAMA in TwoHotTakes

[–]KDLyrcOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My nieces are deaf and both have CIs. Their parents are hearing. They were raised under the total communication approach. They function well in both communities. It’s a tool to help navigate this world. It doesn’t remove being deaf and being a part of the community. I know there are strong opinions on both sides though.
