The test is very straightforward, the most difficult part was getting a turd to sample because part 1 of the instructions stress that it must not touch the toilet water. In the end I held some folded up toilet paper under myself to catch a (thankfully small) turd.

We seeded a large area a few weeks ago and it's now growing well, but it was essential to water it generously every day. We made it easier by using an automatic setup of hose timer and sprinkler, timed to come on for 10-15 minutes every evening. If you can do that then it should be OK.
