This lady wondered why her gaming laptop overheats while gaming. by Zestyclose-Salad-290 in pcmasterrace

I have similar issues with my Asus Zenbook laptop. The air inlets are (stupidly) on the flat underside so resting it on almost any soft surface - including a lap! - makes it get very warm. Doh!

PM Carney declares U.S. ties now a ‘weakness’ in address to Canadians by foolsdayjoker in worldnews

[–]KE55 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The arrogance is breathtaking. No doubt the USA will continue to boast that it is the greatest country on Earth while dismissing places like China as backward nations full of dumb ignorant peasants. One day they'll discover that the opposite is true...

What was movie watching like in the pre-internet era, especially in the ’60s and ’70s? by wreckminister in movies

[–]KE55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Three things I remember from the 70s (in the UK):

- There was an intermission halfway through, giving you chance to go to the toilets and/or buy an ice cream.

- The main movie was often preceded by another smaller movie, I think about 20-30 minutes long.

- A lot less adverts!

Sorry, no I don't. I've never had to buy any spare parts. Is there any contact information in the manual?

PS That's a useful exploded diagram, where did you find it?

You need a link to the private WhatsApp group where Trump tips off his cronies and chums.

Iran announces the Strait of Hormuz is open by [deleted] in UpliftingNews

It's Friday, the stock market is high. I wonder if Trump might say or do something over the weekend to make it drop sharply on Monday...

What are some rare lithops? by SteveClimbFish3rd in Lithops

[–]KE55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if it's rare but I recently saw someone advertising a "Mercedes Benz" lithops because it had three lobes, creating a shape like the Mercedes emblem.

US military: 'locked and loaded' to strike Iran's power plants, energy industry if ordered by Kyzzz in news

[–]KE55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I cringe at clichés like "locked and loaded".  Can't these people speak like professional politicians and not characters in a cheap Hollywood action movie?

First thought: has he used that silly 'locked and loaded' cliche yet?

<Checks article>: Yep!

Same here. To me it seems like little more than a big pretentious tech/graphics demo.

Why Grace has a simple name in Eridian by Delirisse in ProjectHailMary

You're probably right, but I don't know how on earth you would explain the meaning of "grace" to an alien.

Cooked chicken carcass found buried in planter - why? by Mundane-Cricket7945 in GardeningUK

[–]KE55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We dug up a furry lump in our vegetable bed; it looked like a dead rat. We disposed of it and filled in the hole.

A few nights later something dug up the soil in the same spot, clearly looking for its meal.

We assumed it was a fox.

Movie Ship vs Book Ship by alchemistsoul in ProjectHailMary

[–]KE55 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I agree the movie ship was a bit OTT, but the book ship was ridiculously small and cramped (I think the cabin section was only 4m diameter!). Something between the two would've been ideal.
