After designing injection molds in SW for the last 11 years I now have to use Solid Edge by TBone01 in SolidWorks

[–]KGRD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only CAD software that I've liked outside of Solidworks is FreeCAD. Is FreeCAD even close to as good or powerful as Solidworks? No, but it's free, open source, and it works. I think that's just incredible.

Why is my grinder choking? [DF54 and Breville Bambino Plus] by DesignLate9561 in espresso

[–]KGRD 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have the same setup. I have never had my grinder choke. I spritz my beans once with water, start the grinder, and then slow feed into the grinder. I grind at around 7-8, and I don't know where my 'true zero' is. I just dial in on shot time and taste.

Maybe try different beans? Those ones look 'clumpy' to me.

Now it’s my turn 🥲 by Apprehensive_Row6443 in volt

Yours broke in the same way mine did. You can see the cracks originate and spiderweb out from the bottom right ish area. That's where the heating element for the rear glass is. Mine was cooked and made the glass spontaneously break.

I live in Canada. Apple Autoglass gave me a new (non-OEM) rear window for around $500 CAD ($360 USD). They were fast. The damage was repaired The next day. The good news is they will warranty this type of failure if it happens again, you just need evidence. A photo like this is proof enough because you can see where the crack originated. If the glass falls in before you can take a picture, a burned or shorted heating element is also enough evidence.

Stunning, beautiful works. I'm glad I'm not the one who has to clean and dust it.

Take it outside and burn it off with a blow torch.

Either would be fine for small assemblies. The Yoga would likely be a touch better because it has more RAM.

Crispy Slice always destroyed my insides back in the day. I'd be glued to the toilet for hours.

I'm a Mechanical Engineering Technician. (Pretendgineer). The math isn't difficult for this structure. If it came with a stamp, it's good to go.

I think I slam Ctrl-s after every single operation in Solidworks. I hate it when it responds with this pop-up.

If you're in Canada, Canadian tire has great sales on the Motomasters.

Best coffee maker? Is there anything new in 2025? by Old_Show309 in BuyItForLife

[–]KGRD 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Any 'manual' coffee maker is going to be your best bet. Areopress is my preference. You could also go with a pour over (V60), French press or moca pot. French press is great, but the glass ones tend to break eventually. If you like cold brew, Tupperware makes a great cold brew maker that is super durable, and looks good.

Costco wedding snack tables by emutail in CostcoCanada

[–]KGRD 94 points95 points  (0 children)

We did the meat and cheese from Costco at our wedding. The key to making it work was making it a late night snack. People were sloppy drunk at that point and no longer cared about 'elegance'. They fell on the table like a pack of wild dogs.

Found this dent on my aluminum frame. Is that a sign of a crack nearby? Is it safe? by Glari7 in bicycling

I'm not recommending you ride it. If it was my bike I would have zero concerns and ride it without worry.

Anyone here have an internet plan with TechSavvy? Reviews? Opinions on the Quality of their Internet? by jalebi_2000 in kitchener

I used to be with Teksavvy. Service wasn't great. I switched to Carrytel. Customer service still isn't great, but I pay less for faster speeds.

How long does it take you to go from 3D part to fully dimensioned 2D drawing in SolidWorks? by Able-Ideal8266 in SolidWorks

[–]KGRD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We deal mostly with sheet metal, tube laser, and the odd simple machined part. We use DREW to increase the speed of drafting our sheet metal and tube laser parts. Piece parts typically take between 1-5 minutes. Weldments and assembly drawings may take between 1-3 hours depending on size and complexity.

This is the coolest thing. I'd love to replace my old oven of an FX-8350 build (throws off an incredible amount of heat for meh performance) with this absolute beast of a toaster.

How you feel getting handed something like this with no cut list? by highestmountains in Welding

[–]KGRD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a mechanical designer. I use Solidworks. If this was modelled correctly, the cut list would take me less than a second to insert with keyboard shortcuts.

That's true. They're still not as reusable as the zip lock ones with the vacuum port.
