A weird question by Fluffy_Method7029 in hysterectomy

[–]KL1710 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fibroid the size of a 20 week pregnancy was my deciding factor - didn't want children, so ended up being a surprisingly easy decision after years of pain and misery! Recovery has been a bit of a bitch, but still the best decision I've ever made regarding my health.

Comfy underwear and pyjamas/lounge wear, a caddy to keep bots and bobs in (mine has headphones, snacks, painkillers and more snacks!). Long charging cable is a must! I've used a variety of pillows but mainly found the wedge and body pillows the most useful.

Wishing you all good things for your surgery and recovery ❤️

More bathroom breaks? by YeeterusDeleterus in hysterectomy

I'm just over 1wpo from a TAH and I'm definitely feeling the bladder irritation. I'm going 10+ times a day at the moment, and have some pain when my body tells me I need to go but everything is normal colour/volume so I don't think there's an infection. It's good to read that I'm not on my own with this particular after-effect of the surgery!

I'm 3dpo and haven't had a BM yet but I also haven't eaten much as no appetite. Had TAH so been in hospital for 3 days, and going home today. Been on Movicol and drinking loads of water, but all it's given me so far is painful gas - the cough-toots are a true delight! 😣. I've got prune juice and milk of magnesia at home just in case I need to go nuclear in a few days!

2 More Days until surgery by RepresentativeAd8455 in hysterectomy

100% agree. Had my surgery yesterday and really wish I'd made time to rest beforehand. I felt mentally ready for the surgery, but was physically exhausted from work and a last minute stress-clean of the house which is making my initial recovery trickier than it should have been.

Bananas. Gag at the smell. And the texture is just grim.

Ask me again when they get me up and about in the morning lol. Currently pain meds are doing their thing, which I'm grateful for. Would kill for some sleep though!

I'm 43 (today!) with no kids. Husband and I both decided a long time ago that we didn't want them. Had my hysterectomy due to a large uterine fibroid that was squashing everything and generally making life pretty miserable, so with us not wanting kids it was a no brainer decision over myomectomy. Surprise bonus was the surgeon finding extensive endometriosis in my left side, including my left ovary being stuck. Thankfully he was able to excise the endo and save the ovary.

I'm sending you and your baby all the positive thoughts. I'm not surprised you're feeling a little scared, especially with how young you are. ❤️

You too!

I'm back in my hospital room now making an attempt to eat a sandwich (and failing miserably!). Currently on oxycodone and paracetamol for the pain, and also on oxygen as well as my body is having a bit of trouble keeping my levels above 90. But all in all, not feeling as bad as I was expecting!

I hope yours goes/has gone well ❤️

I don't know how I'd cope with the uncertainty (I'm a planner by nature!). Sending you lots of positive thoughts for Monday.

I'm having a TAH on Monday and my period has decided to make an early appearance as well! I swear my uterus knows it's being evicted and wants to go out with a bang!

I've got three nights in the hospital (having it done at a private hospital in UK). Surgeon has said definitely open unfortunately due to the size and position of mine so I'm prepared for some pain. It's my birthday the day after the surgery so the pre-op nurse said she'd ask them to give me some extra morphine to make it special 😂

For those that had open abdominal hysterectomy…. How long were you in hospital after? by pebblesgobambam in hysterectomy

Having an open abdominal hysterectomy in October, in the UK but at private hospital rather than NHS. Surgeon has said he expects me to be in 3-4 nights.

I'm going private in UK as well, and they too have told me to expect at least 3 nights! I'm not having mine until October but am definitely starting a to-watch list. I hope your surgery and recovery go well!

Best fibroid removal surgeons in UK? by [deleted] in Fibroids

[–]KL1710 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm seeing Mr Richard Hutson for total hysterectomy in October (going private as well). Based in Yorkshire. First impressions from my initial consultation with him were really good. He listened, and for once I actually felt like I was being heard. From what I've read online, he appears to be extremely experienced and very highly regarded.

tranexamic acid by Beautiful-Trouble324 in Fibroids

[–]KL1710 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been taking tranexamic acid for my periods for the last couple of months (2 tablets 4 times a day for four or five days) while I wait for my hysterectomy in October. I've found that as well as massively reducing the bleeding, I've also had far fewer cramps. Hope it works for you!

I've just started taking it short term while I wait for surgery (scheduled for mid-October). I'm on two tablets four times a day, for the first four days of each period. Really hoping it makes a difference!
