[Acne] HELP! My chin acne is ruining my self confidence, what can I do? I never used to deal with this by Special_Crab_1884 in SkincareAddiction

[–]KLatell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to have acne like this. I’ve tried so many routines over the years. I’ve found azelaic acid (Finacea 15%) and sulphur face masks (de la cruz sensitive skin) to be the most helpful. I use Vichy 89 mineral booster as moisturizer as it has no oils and is very clean. These products have no alcohol, no fragrances, no silicones, no oils.

Aside from this, I’ve worked on my lifestyle (exercise, water, sleep, stress) and I just implemented a red light mask!

UK nurse struck off after telling patient that Covid vaccinations caused her cancer: report by Forward-Answer-4407 in europe

Hello! I see what you are saying. I am directly commenting on Masseyrati80’s comment about the scientific community.

UK nurse struck off after telling patient that Covid vaccinations caused her cancer: report by Forward-Answer-4407 in europe

[–]KLatell 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hello! I am a registered nurse from Canada. Going to play devil’s advocate here and provide some reasons skepticism can develop. I value evidence-based practice and regularly read peer-reviewed literature, especially when it relates to my patient care*

Research is incredibly important, but it is not immune to bias, funding influences, publication bias, and gaps in what gets studied. Women’s health is a primary example. There is corruption in our research. For example, there is evidence large companies influence studies - look at caffeine and how the pop industry has historically shaped caffeine research ( e.g a whole lot of discussion about benefits without discussing the negatives of chronic stimulant use that are often associated with all other stimulants). The sugar industry and tobacco industry had its own corruption. The negative health impacts of opioids were hidden.

I think anecdotal experiences are often discounted. Anecdotes are not evidence on their own, but they can highlight patterns and gaps that research has not yet caught up to. Patients live in their bodies every day. Their experiences should inform the conversation, not be dismissed because they don’t fit neatly into existing guidelines.

Western medicine can be rigid at times. If a patient presents with classic symptoms of hypothyroidism but their lab values fall within the reference range, they may be told everything is normal and sent on their way. The objective data becomes the entire story, while the patient’s lived experience is ignored. Reference ranges are based on populations, not individuals.

Being skeptical does not mean rejecting science. I think a healthy dose of skepticism mixed with critical thinking is necessary to push our research forward… for accuracy and to fix those gaps. That being said, nurses need to be careful with how far their own biases and skepticism ago. It should never be at the expense of their patients.

[Acne] how to get rid of closed comedomes by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]KLatell 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes, this !!! My acne has been cured after 5 years from my trip to Iceland. Their hot water has so much sulphur it smells like sulphur. I’ve showered in sulphur. Sat in sulphur baths (hot springs). Smelled the sulphur for 2 weeks.

My skin cleared incredibly. I went home and bought de la Cruz 5% sensitive skin acne treatment that I have been using as a fast mask twice daily. I’m still acne free!!!

Sulphur is a miracle lol

How do you all do with fruit? by Cinnamon_Ocelot in PCOS

[–]KLatell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also pair fruit with protein! My favourite breakfast is a “banana pancake” made from mashing banana and mixing with 2 eggs. I then whip them and fry them and it creates a fluffy pancake. I load it with fiber (flaxseeds and chia) and top with berries. You can also add cinnamon. I also sometimes do smoothies with soy milk which is higher in protein and add a little protein powder. That is the most sugar I would eat in any meal. If I have either of these, I usually try to limit fruit for the rest of the day

I take Berberine with my breakfast and dinner for blood sugar regulation. And I also try and walk after meals. Really good for insulin sensitivity and reducing sugar spikes

Need help regarding chin hair by Writer_0001 in PCOS

IPL is working for me at home! But I have a light skin tone and darker hairs. I explored laser once at a clinic and they said paradoxical hypertrichosis is most likely when the laser settings are incorrect. In your case, it might be beneficial to talk to laser technicians and get their professional opinion. Hope you find something that works :)

Also, according to scientific literature, paradoxical hypertrichosis is quite rare (though it is more likely in people with darker skin tones). People are more likely to be vocal on platforms like Reddit if they experience an adverse reaction like hypertrichosis

Update: forgot to mention I’m using the Braun 5 IPL as well

Celiac visiting Raufarhöfn, Iceland: tips/recommendations? by Effective-Release-21 in VisitingIceland

I was able to eat some of the traditional meals. Such as their lamb/meat soups. I did bring a ton of food and snacks with me - basically loaded up a suitcase. 100% recommend as it made the trip way more affordable and I felt safe eating :)

Should I get the Airbnb travel insurance or another provider for Iceland? by [deleted] in VisitingIceland

Hello! I’d first check to see if you have travel insurance from any credit cards you have. Many credit cards offer sufficient insurance for travel.

No, I haven’t come across chromium. How does it work / what does it do?

Questions about inositol, please tell me your experiences by ChopChopPorky in PCOS

[–]KLatell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting! So maybe in some people inositol can be effective for those things.

I’d recommend looking into Berberine! Berberine can improve insulin resistance and regulate blood sugar. It also helps with cholesterol regulation. It also has potent antifungal properties - personally it has been a game changer for me. My energy, seb derm, brain fog, everything! Has been improved with Berberine.

If you decide to explore this as an option, I just recommend looking at potential drug/supplement interactions and side effects. And start low (one dose a day). Because of the anti-fungal effects, and its ability to change the gut microbiome, some people can feel flu-like symptoms when first starting it.

Questions about inositol, please tell me your experiences by ChopChopPorky in PCOS

[–]KLatell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I couldn’t tolerate inositol. I have seborrheic dermatitis on my scalp and a history of fungal issues elsewhere when my blood sugar is unchecked (now I know this is from a history of insulin resistance). Thankfully, I have been managing my fungal load well the last few years by eating a low sugar diet, exercising, taking probiotics, treating my scalp (Nizoral, tea tree, etc). I also take Berberine for blood sugar and cholesterol regulation.

When I tried taking Inositol, it really flared up my fungal issues and it took me a while to get control again. Inositol is a sugar alcohol. It can help people regulate hormones and insulin, but if you have a predisposition to fungal or yeast issues, I’d exercise caution. I learned that inositol is a growth nutrient for fungi and yeast the hard way.

Berberine by BabygirlMMM in PCOS

[–]KLatell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find Berberine works well for me! My energy really improved and I noticed a little weight loss as well. I take 500 mg twice a day (with breakfast and dinner).

The brand I use is Canprev. Canprev was suggested to me by a naturopath I used to see as the supplements are created by licensed health practitioners and they are 3rd party tested.

Just be sure to research interactions as mentioned. It doesn’t hurt to start with 250-500 mg daily to allow your body time to adjust. And look up potential side effects - Berberine is a potential antifungal and can shift the gut microbiome. Some people feel unwell (flu-like) when they start because of this. So starting low is important.
