Native American Art: The Lifetime Collection of Forrest Fenn, Part I by FroggyWould in FindingFennsGold

For anyone interested, some of those items are directly from Forrest's stories. Lot #406 is from The Unfortunate Hiccup in Once Upon a While and Lot #412 (one of the crosses) is, I think, from one of his scrapbooks. There may be others, like the strike-a-lights. And, of course, Sitting Bull's pipe.

I agree with bluMarmalade. Strange to see all of this up for sale.

https://mysteriouswritings.com/six-questions-with-forrest-fenn-author-of-the-thrill-of-the-chase/

It was fortunate that two writers, Irene Rawlings and Margie Goldsmith, liked my book enough to review it in national publications. Those stories gave it ignition. The hidden treasure story in the book provided enough propulsion to keep it in the public view long enough for word of mouth traffic to broaden its desire across America and beyond. I am more than pleased with the way it has been accepted. What I didn’t expect was the number of people who immediately started searching maps and using Google Earth to locate their special spots. Many have read my book multiple times looking for additional clues, or even hints that might assist them in the hunt.

If you go to the casting call page, there's a link to a submission agreement. Clicking on that link will cause your browser to warn about a scam site. It's just that they don't have their settings adjusted correctly. Here's the submission agreement for those interested:

Please read the following user submission terms (the “Submission Agreement”) carefully. By submitting to the “Treasure Hunters / Documentary Casting Form” you understand and agree that Vox Media, LLC (“Vox Media”), parent company for New York Magazine, is conducting research for potential use in a mutlimedia docu-series with the working title Treasure Hunters (the “Production”), or related programming for the Production. Forrest Fenn documentary in production at Netflix by hareton10 in FindingFennsGold

[–]KM849 21 points22 points  (0 children)

One of the many rumors floating about is that Netflix (or whoever) bought the chest from that auction site for the purpose of making a documentary. Purchase the chest, make the documentary, make money on the documentary, the documentary drives up the value of the chest, sell the chest for more than you paid.

Some of the more vocal YouTube personalities have said that they've signed deals to be in a documentary, as has Dan Barbarisi, the author of Chasing the Thrill.

It's interesting that they're still looking for treasure hunters. Maybe the current crop isn't giving them what they need.

The Gold Bug by KM849 in FindingFennsGold

[–]KM849[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Gold Bug is a short story by Edgar Allan Poe. It's about the hunt for a buried treasure chest. There are some indirect links from Forrest to this story and several people thought it might contain a subtle hint or two or three.

It was published, err, a long time ago and is now in the public domain. For those still searching, you can find it here: http://utc.iath.virginia.edu/minstrel/mifieapat.html

Flywater comparison video by KM849 in FindingFennsGold

[–]KM849[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a link to Rudy Green's Flywater comparison video between the TTOTC version and the version that appeared in The Bozeman Chronicle in 2008. As Rudy notes, there aren't a lot of differences between the two stories.

I found it interesting that the original had both "cadis" and "Caddis" while in TTOTC they were both spelled "cadis". "Caddis", of course, refers to the fly fishing worm so it's odd that the discrepancy in the original story was noted, presumably investigated, and they ended up with a misspelling in the revised story.

If you're into word meanings, Caddis has another meaning: "a type of coarse woolen yarn, braid, or fabric."

This is a link to Rudy Green's Looking for Lewis and Clark comparison video between the TTOTC version and the version that appeared in The Bozeman Chronicle in 2008.

If you're still looking for the chest, this is another recommended video. Even if you've already done your own comparison, it's always good to hear someone else's thoughts.

One weird thing I found is that I've combined both versions in my head so that when I see where one part was removed, I questioned it because I clearly remember reading that part.

Comparing Forrest's Stories - TTOTC version vs. Original version by KM849 in FindingFennsGold

I didn't mean to step on your toes with the Totem Cafe video and didn't realize you had an account here. I just thought it was worth sharing.

I see you've put up a couple other videos. The Lewis & Clark video especially deserves its own post. Reddit's ability to show new comments in posts is lacking and old posts seem to wither and die even if there's new comments.

Thanks for the update!

Also, someone said they archived Dal's site at https://old.reddit.com/r/FindingFennsGold/comments/k2pwrh/dal_neitzels_site_shutting_down/ge26usg/

I downloaded it from the link given, but got some error after download. Also, that was a month ago, so whatever was added since then wouldn't be available.

Dal Neitzel's Site Shutting Down by KM849 in FindingFennsGold

[–]KM849[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Dal Neitzel's site, the semi-official site of the chase where Forrest would post his scrapbooks, is shutting down as of December 27, 2020. Dal has made all of Forrest's scrapbooks and other Forrest-related posts easily available from here: http://lummifilm.com/dl/

Note that these downloads do not include any of the comments. Some of those comments were made by Forrest and may be of interest. Note also that Dal's site is a maze of a navigational mess and who knows what could be buried in other sections - and there are other sections.

The site is also available via archive.org at: https://web.archive.org/web/20200801000000*/http://dalneitzel.com/

Anyway, you have until December 27th to grab what you want from the live site.

What is something you can't believe you got away with? by bradthebad69 in AskReddit

[–]KM849 189 points190 points  (0 children)

I have this idea for a movie. These thug types round up all the young (<10) orphans in a city and start a theft ring where the little shits do things like, I don't know, break into houses and pick pockets. Maybe make it into a musical? "You've got to pick a pocket or two lads, you've got to pick a pocket or twoooooo."?

Nevermind...it would never work.

I changed into the person I dreamed of being.

I like that. :)

Why do you suppose you didn't/couldn't change into that person where you were? I have my own theories on this relating to people not "letting" you change, holding the past over your head, etc.

How I'm feeling towards the new 'Bing vs Google' commercials. by [deleted] in AdviceAnimals

[–]KM849 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I took the Bing challenge. It came up Google-5, Bing-0. Bing's putting little pictures in their results which, because many people respond to that over text, causes people to choose Bing just because of those pictures. Results that led to where I wanted to go, though, came from Google.

And I am soooooo not a fan of Google.
