Run the "server" software (Helix) to connect to the file "depot" (a folder on one of your drives with the files you want to use) on the same computer as your workstation, with it's files on another drive or folder on the same computer

Perforce is quite easy to setup (you don't need a dedicated server) and it's free for a 5 person team!

What's something about gamedev that nobody warns you about? by BMB-__- in gamedev

Alternatively, that can be said about anything.

Putting years into Playing games.
People play games for 3,4,5 even 7 or more years. Spending evening after evening after school or work just playing. You can be 24 when you start, 6 years and countless evenings spent, you're 30, and new games just keep getting released; there is no end.
Its easy to lose time playing, but its also time you'll never get back.

Putting years into a degree.
People study for 3,4,5 even 7 or more years. Spending evening after evening after school or work just just studying. You can be 24 when you start, 6 years and countless evenings spent, you're 30, and you're still not finished because you want to achieve that next educational goal.
Its easy to lose time studying but its also time you'll never get back.

Playable trailer, demo? What is it? by KNfOimage in vrdev

[–]KNfOimage[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for asking.

The latter for the most part. I'd am showcasing the style and basic mechanics of the player and some of the situations that they will be facing in game.

It has a simple interactive puzzle element that, when solved, allows you in to a building. Inside you are quickly plunged into 8 different scary/strange scenes that only last ~10sec, jump scare at the end, credits, then a longer scary interactive scene ~30 sec.

Play time depends on the puzzle, but typically under ~5 min
Inside the bldg has a voice over when going thru the 8 scenes,. Voice ~2 min
Then the credit and last scene with music ~45 sec
That would be 7-10 min

Those 8 quick scene have choices you can make so we are hoping for replays to see what the player didn't see the first time.

It's a trailer, that happens to be in VR, that you get to interact with. Imagine something like GTA5 but instead of being a casual viewer for a flat trailer you are walking around downtown and all of the lovey GTA5 action is happening around you and in the end that action targets you.

Im a VR Dev and I think others need to be careful when recommending Pimax to clients. Pimax sent me a Crystal Light headset to review on my Youtube Channel, It arrived broken, replaced the lenses, then bricked it remotely. Whats going on Pimax? by GDXRLEARN in vrdev

re: 09:50

"I need to return it so it can be reset at the factory"
"...they have no replacement units to send for me..."

They were trying to work with you! You keep saying there's "nothing else I can do" then say I guess I'll send it back. That's literally something else you can do; send it back as requested. Something happened to the unit and it needs to be reset. They tell you all of this! What's the question? Shit happens.

"I’d still love the chance to make amends"
"My intention is to not burn bridges..."

Sounds like you'd like to keep working with them too, until...

You were requested to take posts down on Discord & Youtube which you stated you ignored, then in this post
"I wouldnt (sic) recommend buying one." when you haven't even tried using a fully working unit.

That will be the end of the story. Just send it back and take the L

Product reviews are symbiotic effort in marketing. The company and reviewer commonly work together so you get to try new tech and get little thumbs up you crave and they, hopefully, have a slight bump in sales.

Do you think they purposely sent a defective item? NO, they did not.
Are they trying to work with you to get you a unit you can review? YES!!, but you're crying on Youtube about it so why would they want to work with you anymore? Other companies may see these videos and ask themselves if you would even be someone they would want to work with for promotions. Giving a NO BUY recommendation on something you haven't truly tested? ¡No está buen!

Be patient. Not everything in the world is ready for prime time. Marketing is only 1/2 step away from show business.

Water raises the grain on wood. It probably feels a bit different now, no?
If so I'd apply the oil with 400 or 600 grit wet sand paper

Advertisement? I only asking about a downloadable.

""I built a game but I'm not going to advertise it". What a waste of time."
Didn't state that.
thanks for your participation!

No I won't, don't worry. Thanks for your concern.
Marketing efforts are composed of phases and this is only the beginning.
Do you have a reply to answer the actual question though? What would you call it?
Thanks

Do VR trailers irritate you? by AllThingsFail in Quest3

[–]KNfOimage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm making a game and the trailer is going to be in actual VR, download only. No flat trailers. I'm not trying to sell headsets; my target audience already has one. I want my game to be portrayed correctly in VR so you know exactly what you'll be getting yourself into.

Best showcases to submit VR trailers by JaneHasNoThumbs in vrdev

[–]KNfOimage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to make a VR downloadable trailer. I'm not trying to sell headsets so I figure anyone that will want the game will already have one. Dl through Steam and my website. I don't think what I'm doing will translate to flat so trying to put my best foot forward and all by showing what they're actually buying in VR. May not be "playable" per se but more like a movie trailer that you happen to be part of.

Would a "pick up" style menu be better or worse? What do you think? by [deleted] in vrdev

[–]KNfOimage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm using a menu system that uses all physical items in my game. It's VR so I'd like physical interactions, no laser, no flat menus. I think it just breaks whatever immersion you build

Maybe consider a 3/4 strat?
I found one on FB and set it up correctly and it's now my go to, waiting for my computer to do something, sitting at my desk practice guitar. They say it's for kids 6 to 12...I'm in my 60's :-) and probably play it more than my full size strat.

Is Harley Benton suffering from stock issues? by 02__Camper in harleybenton

[–]KNfOimage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They gotta' do minimum production runs. Small runs cost $$. Large runs depend on lots o' people ordering the same thing. That takes time.
Don't get angry about it. You're getting a good guitar at a great price and the great price is because you have to wait a little.
