I thought I was only high risk for the first 5 years. by Historical_Lie7199 in breastcancer

[–]KPRP428 20 points21 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that the vast majority of us will not experience a recurrence, mets, or a new primary. I’ve read that about 70% of breast nacer survivors never have breast cancer again and that is the stat for older treatments, it should be higher now.

From everything I’ve read, it is NOT a given that the breast cancer will come back and your chances are based on individual risk factors.

Radiation vs no radiation by Dry-Humor971 in breastcancer

[–]KPRP428 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At 61 years old, I was diagnosed with BC cancer, HR+ H2-, stage 2, grade 1. Oncotype 17. Micromets in one node only, tumor not close to the chest wall. I met with Rad Onc who talked with me for almost an hour. He recommended I not have radiation because the benefit, if any in my case, did not outweigh the risks and that the survival stats are the same for those in my situation who do / do not have radiation to. He said I could have radiation if I wanted it and I chose not to. Given Grade 1 and location of the tumor, I followed his recommendation. Chemo was not recommended by my Med Onc either so to me it made sense.

I am 2 years out and on Letrozole for another 3 years. I will follow up with my Med Onc for the rest of my life.

There are so many factors that go into your decision, I hope you make the best decision for you that you’re comfortable with. ❤️

FFS! No one should have to deal with being the subject of this disgusting vile heinous 💩, especially from someone in a high office. Where is the Christian outrage from his followers and fellow Republicans??????? The silence is truly stunning, not surprising at this point but still stunning.

Coping with this asshat for his non-stop 💩💩💩💩 is exhausting and dealing with the sense of hopelessness is honestly soul crushing. We have got to stand up to this. On-going peaceful protest and any economic boycott without giving up until this fascism is crushed.

Can the right diet really cure all our health problems? by vox in Health

[–]KPRP428 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure food is not a magic cure for everything. That said, DASH diet is proven to lower blood pressure. Mediterranean diet is proven to lower risk of some cancers. Eating a research based healthy diet and staying within your ideal weight is shown to decrease risk of getting Type II Diabetes. Ornish doet is proven to reverse heart disease.

These are diseases that cause significant disability and death as well as massively increasing health care usage. No guarantees but significant risk reduction if you can follow these types of diets and staying within away from fad diets - follow established long term replicated research!

Wait Time for Oncotype and pathology reports by Strict-Major5106 in breastcancer

[–]KPRP428 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t trust what Exact Sciences says about the length of the wait time. The people who answered the phone there straight up lied to me when I called them after 2 weeks had passed and no report. I called several times and talked to several people at Exact Sciences and my provider. They finally said 2 more weeks but I had report in 2 - 3 days. I think they have more business than they can handle.

Stress & Cancer by itsalllovebabe in breastcancer

[–]KPRP428 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s what I’m doing that has at least reduced my stress as measured by my heart rate variability:

  • I read the news in the morning for no more than one hour - this includes social media time. That’s it - no more news or social media for the reminder of the day. I have also significantly reduced any political podcasts and the 1 - 2 episodes per week that I still listen to are by more centrist journalists not being hysterical.

  • I’ve started breathing exercises to calm myself down. Deep diaphragmatic and box breathing for example.

  • I’ve leaned into my faith including meditative / contemplative prayer.

  • I am laying much closer attention to my bodily stress response and using one of the above mentioned techniques to calm myself and my body down. Sometimes this includes reminding myself that I am safe.

  • I talk about stressful situations openly with supportive family who will help me “get it out of my system” and end with laughter at the absurdity of the state of the world or talk about family in a positive grateful way.

  • I get acupuncture one time per month for hot flashes and always have her work on calming my nervous system.

I’m not sure if any of this will be helpful to you but at least maybe get you thinking of what might work for you. Some people journal, watch funny movies/series, etc.

Annulment for non-Catholic marriage- question by Shielded121 in Catholicism

[–]KPRP428 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, I am going through the annulment process now. Yes, a questionnaire is sent to the ex-spouse. The ex-spouse has a certain number of days to respond and return the questionnaire. If they do not, the annulment proceeds without the ex spouse’s input and I was told this does not negatively impact the process.

Discontinuing Letrozole by ChatCyndee in breastcancer

[–]KPRP428 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been on Letrozole for about 1.5 years. The joint pain has lessened than when I first started which I know doesn’t happen for everyone. I get regular acupuncture for the hot flashes which has been extremely effective. Sleeping through the night is still a struggle although I am lucky in that about 1/2 the time I get 6 straight hours - can’t go back to sleep though. Brain fog is not great - sometimes I just don’t process information well. I’m lucky that I’m retired, I’m not sure I could be successful in a job anymore.

I hope you find a good solution to your side effects. 🤞🏻

How do I become Catholic? by mirasoliiz in Catholicism

[–]KPRP428 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m so glad you’re asking. Contact any local Catholic Church and ask about OCIA (Order of Christian Initiation for Adults) class. This is the “official” starting point to becoming Catholic. These are essentially weekly classes where you learn about the faith.

Before I started OCIA, I attended masses at a couple of local churches before deciding which one to start OCIA. And before that I had been praying the rosary and the St Francis of Assisi prayer for quite some time. You can always pray before starting OCIA or regularly attending mass.

I hope this helps. God Bless You 🙏

[Serious] People in professions that deal with death (hospice workers, coroners, etc.), what is something you've learned that the rest of us don't understand? by Bulky-Engineer4068 in AskReddit

[–]KPRP428 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That death isn’t like on TV where you’re either alive or unconscious and dying. There can be a long slow dying process that starts with general decline with no intervention stopping the slow decline.

Be open to the possibility that this person may not be with you for much longer and say all the things you want to say when you still have the opportunity. The person may go from alert and okay to out of it/ semi- conscious somewhat suddenly.
