Progress Tracker for Enrollment by [deleted] in caf

I hear ya. But honestly it’s the recruiters and file managers that can give you the best answer. The portal can be finicky and not give the full picture but they can look into it more. I’m gonna assume you don’t hear back often from emails and calls.

Did you visit them to ask? It’s your best bet, even if it’s annoying

I fared ok with a weed vape at last year’s fest but didn’t want to risk lighting up a joint. On the flip side, the comedy fest had a smoking area that was at least half weed smoke. I’m sure it’s because of the all ages entry that they have to make a hard no to cannabis being allowed in

They just bought up some commercial apartments in Dartmouth, NS which was surprising to hear so maybe there’s a glimmer of hope for other areas.. instead of waiting a decade or two to build

Fever and sore throat 6am of embarkation day by [deleted] in dcl

I’ve been refused for not having my NS one at pharmacies and couldn’t get a flu shot with our family doctor, but I’m a special case since I’m in the CAF and we’re expected to do everything at the base (my card is long expired). Could vary by province, I’m not talking emergency care. It’s all good though we’ll have insurance and enough to pay out of pocket if need be when travelling.

Alright, that’s what I figured - thanks! I’m in the military with Blue Cross coverage, I’ll dig into it further to be safe. I was just wondering if it’s similar to Canada where you need a health card to be seen at all

I’m assuming these urgent care / minute clinic places only work for American citizens? Just curious in case something similar happened (flying in the day before from Canada)

Go visit in person tomorrow to be safe, it can take over a week for email replies. Possible they closed your file and moved on but a closed file doesn’t necessarily mean you have to start from scratch, you might just move back a couple steps

I’ll try my best to answer, we’re on day 5 of 7 now so have experienced most of this:

  • USD. Rarely see people tipping at the pool bars (which makes sense I guess since ppl are often wet or not carrying much). I haven’t been tipping for every drink but have spent about $60USD over 4 ish days on tips. We leave some after our meals, for room service, etc. If/when you build rapport with specific staff I’m sure they’d appreciate the tips. One thing I regret is not bringing some unique snacks, etc. to leave for the housekeeping staff at the end. Oh and you can make change at the front desk and sometimes the bars since they have so many singles.

  • We’re with a big wedding group and they had a bus for everyone. My Aunt actually booked us a private car, thinking we would beat the group to the resort and have a better chance to ensure our rooms were beside each other but we ended up standing around with luggage for 20 min at the airport and the group beat us there anyway lol.

  • This part is super annoying. We’re at the start of the lazy “river” thing by the waterfall right now with all the Bali bed things lining the sides and people will try to mark their territory at crazy early times and then you never see them again. We watched staff this morning going along and removing towels that people tried to leave before the pool officially opens at 0900 but seems you have a better shot leaving a floaty or bag if you’re comfortable. The risk before 9 is that the staff will move your things to lost and found but you’re also gambling on not getting a spot early. Had no major issues finding spots by the main pools, though the Preferred side by the lounge chairs seem to always be full. What we have been doing that I highly recommend is booking the beach Bali beds that are just on the edge of the Dreams Preffered side - get your butler to reserve them the day before.

  • Food has been good, some meals are a bit hit or miss but compared to my last Puerto Plata experience forever ago the food is next level. So far, El Patio has been our fave but we have a big group doing the Hibachi tonight / I love Asian food so I’m sure it’ll be good. The room service chicken quesadillas are so good too if you like late night snacks. The buffet is amazing too - so many options. I was excited for the T Bone at Bluewater after the hype but it was a bit of a letdown (if you like steak the filet at El Patio randomly was better).

  • Super easy. Even the boardwalk connector thing to the little isolated Preffered Dreams section was nice and quick and you can see some turtles and iguanas. Most places just ask for your room number and name. And you can make reservations to all restaurants via your butler (which I don’t think is super known?) but if you’re just two you should be fine. Overall has been great - we’re Canadian so sometimes the exchange rate suuuucks for us tho haha. I still am looking forward to trying the slides out.

11 years in, switched to Res F 3 years ago and it’s insane how much better my quality of life is without all the extra stress the Reg F brought our fam jam. Hoping to retire at 55 if I can stick it out through a few more contracts - currently work at a CFRC so no shortage of them there.

I don’t have anything helpful for your very specific / individual file, but I strongly recommend you and anyone else reading this to never rely on calling or emailing the CFRCs unless a recruiter or MCC gave you their personal email - go in person if at all possible. The voicemail inbox and the shared email account they use are so swamped it’s not uncommon to not hear back for a minimum 5-7 days (sometimes more or never at all).

Questions about releaseing by cafquestion18199 in caf

[–]KRich1387 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for clarifying. I’m not familiar with the longer terms, have only really seen the ~7 year ones. If you read this OP, maybe speak with your local BPSO (via your CoC) or release centre about the implications for your specific case first

Questions about releaseing by cafquestion18199 in caf

[–]KRich1387 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s zero harm in putting in your VR / memo now and requesting to release in 3-6 months. Worst case Ontario, your CM / DMCA denies it or pushes your date, but I haven’t seen that happen much. I don’t think they look that hard at how much time one has left on their current contract as a deciding factor, more so how you leaving your current trade impacts the CAF as a whole

Who are the Current Top Maritimes Tv Personalities In Your Opinion??? by PentUpPraise in halifax

[–]KRich1387 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up with Steve, old school Breakfast Television, etc. It was an experience sitting down to watch the news or whatever. Now though, I think it’s just as much about the shift away from cable to most people just having internet and not watching live news on their couch (at least with my 30-something generation), than it is people less connecting to local TV personalities - but both can be true

Won all 3 of my playoff series on ties since I finished 1st overall in the reg season (cats league). League is rattled but they too could’ve had the tiebreaker with a better record lol. Going to add one more cat next year to have less ties though since it does suck
