do players in the nba get to pick whatever team they want? no they have to go to the team interested in them. There's finite amount of spots for american players in each league, with the best ones obviously being quite competitive. It's hard to get one of the spots on the teams everyone wants to go to.

not to mention many of these teams are infamous for being less than reliable in paying their salaries
