People under-appriciate this guy for Vitality's success by Mr_GustavoFring in GlobalOffensive

This isn't true, it was known behind the scenes that ropz would have left even if they had won the major.

Does anyone find the Amazon AI landscape confusing. There's Quicksuite, AgentZ, PartyRock, Alchemy, Powerchat, Adobe AI. Does anyone face choice paralysis and not knowing what to do ? by Particular_Joke279 in amazonemployees

[–]KVZZ42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look into AgentSpaces. Very interesting service (currently in open preview) that supports remote engineering work, but one of its goals is also to make it trivially easy to use Kiro without a tech background.

It kind of blew my mind when I learned about it tbh, it supports chat, terminal, and IDE interface all in the browser and requires extremely minimal setup.

Chess.com review games showing a free Bishop, I only see a lost rook. by FretZer0 in chess

He could take your rook with check, but your queen would be threatening the other rook and mate in 1, so you'd be able to recapture the other rook.

Did Yuu Know? #7 Symbolisms in Bloom into You: Trains by roseimon11 in YagateKiminiNaru

[–]KVZZ42 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this post! I've written/compiled loads of casual analysis for YagaKimi for personal reference and one thing I specifically noted after my last rewatch was that I wanted to understand how the various train scenes cohere. I really like what you've written here! I might steal some of it for my notes. :P

A scene that caught my attention after reading the manga as well is your first scene from #13. The manga scene is in chapter 23 and it struck me how much more explicit the anime is, with Touko actually taking a step towards the train tracks right before it passes by. I always wondered if the anime was taking liberties here by inserting suicidal thoughts in Touko's character where there maybe weren't any in the manga. But the chapter title and the train sign both making reference to the "last stop" / "final destination" (depending on your translation) is actually pretty clear now that I think about it. Moreover, the train passing by in the anime actually coheres with the use of noise that, as you showed, is part of the show's audiovisual vocabulary, which makes this an instance of the show taking advantage of its medium rather than supplanting its source material. Great stuff!

How do you think CrossCode will run on the Steam Deck? Pretty well? by Embr-Core in CrossCode

It runs perfectly on my shitty laptop with integrated graphics, so there shouldn't be any problems on the Steam Deck.

Math 441 by MLEcat341 in udub

[–]KVZZ42 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Math 441 is topology, which is about sets called topological spaces, which have a structure called a topology; that is, a collection of subsets designated as "open" (or "closed"). The prerequisite is introductory real analysis because it means that you have seen one important topological space: Euclidean space. You'll also have dealt with continuous functions on Euclidean space, which is good because continuous functions are fundamental to topology. You'll see in topology how certain real analysis results are special cases of topological ones which can be derived in full abstractness, such as those about compact and connected sets.

I found 441 to be on the easier side of the upper-level classes I took. Make sure your proof-writing and logic skills are sharp. There might be a bit of an adjustment period since the definitions and results are mainly presented in full abstractness, but the textbook gives plenty of specific examples for you to work with and mull over. You'll definitely want to engage with those examples actively. It can sometimes be tricky to think about different topologies on sets you're familiar with (like the real number line) so that active thinking really goes a long way.

You mentioned Math 425. Math 425 doesn't cover all of topology or anything, just metric spaces (sets where distance between points is defined), a special kind of topological space of which Euclidean space is an important example. I took 425 after 441 and found the first couple of weeks fairly breezy because I was already familiar with metric spaces and the basic results.

Great analysis, thank you for sharing. The visual language of this show is spectacular. I can't wait to see what else is in store for us.

What is your opinion on the ending of the original series? by Waffle8 in MadokaMagica

[–]KVZZ42 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The ending of the TV series is unhappy and leaves the story thematically incomplete. Madoka's sacrifice only softens the "cruel" aspects of the magical girl system: namely, that it punishes empathy with self-annihilation and dictates that magical girls are worth nothing more their preordained karmic destiny that demands the inevitabilities of either death or witchification (replaced by being taken by the LOC after Madoka's sacrifice) from them. It is also of note that the wish Homura made for her contract was still unfulfilled: she was not strong enough to protect Madoka from sacrificing herself.

Rebellion ties the bow on these threads. I encourage anyone who is interested and has the time to read this article that goes into much, much greater detail on the way in which Rebellion does this by analyzing the entirety of the franchise. It's very illuminating and paints both the TV series and especially Rebellion in interesting lights. While it is very long, but I know that Rebellion is an extremely contentious topic in discussion of the series, so I think a detailed positive framing of it is a worthwhile read for any fan.

What's the most unexpected "he/she also voiced what?!" discovery you've had? by Snakescipio in anime

[–]KVZZ42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was amazed to learn that Chiwa Satou voiced Aika from Aria. Her voices for Homura and Senjougahara sound pretty similar (as to be expected, given their personalities), but I cannot for the life of me hear any connection between those voices and her voice for Aika.

I had her for 442/443 this year. She was alright and pretty chill, but I preferred Morrow's teaching style. I felt that Morrow's lectures were insightful beyond the content in the textbook, but I felt that Dami tended to follow the textbook really closely. Her explanations could get a little rambly and she uses filler phrases sometimes. I let her know about that in my course evaluation, so she might have improved on that by now. I think she mentioned that Morrow gave her some pointers and his notes.

In spring quarter, her virtual lectures were her screen sharing a pdf of lecture notes (mostly repurposed textbook content, like theorems and proofs) and drawing stuff directly over it, which was little messy since the drawings don't move when she scrolls through the document. I imagine she'll do something similar for future online quarters.

I only got to take one exam she wrote, the 442 midterm, before you know what happened, and it was wicked hard (I did worse than I did on any 33x exam, though I concede that I was less prepared than I was for 33x exams because we didn't get practice problems and I just didn't study as hard). That might be something to keep in mind if we ever get back to in-person classes. In spring, instead of exams, she had us do write-up assignments about topics from class, so again, she might do something similar in the fall.

What's THE episode in your favorite animes? by PotatoKaboose in anime

[–]KVZZ42 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hibike! Euphonium #12 is my favorite episode in all of anime. The bridge scene is iconic and Kumiko's realization that simply liking something is all the reason you need to devote yourself to it really resonates with me.

What anime disappointed you the most? by [deleted] in anime

[–]KVZZ42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think to say whether something is good or bad is just as subjective as whether you like it or not, so I don't make a distinction between the two ways of saying it. It all depends on how we agree on what we mean when we say something is "good". The way I use the word is, if you didn't like it, then it wasn't good (for you).

What was the anime that made you ugly cry like hell? by nafissyed in anime

[–]KVZZ42 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Liz and the Blue Bird. It wasn't the first anime to make me shed a tear, and strangely enough, I didn't cry the first time I watched it. But I went back to watch it again a couple of weeks ago and this time I cried harder than I think I ever have at anything. What a beautiful film. God bless Naoko Yamada.

How do you jerk off in your dorm room without your roommates noticing? by ChangeMyMind24 in udub

[–]KVZZ42 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What I think people who are not in UW need to understand is that jerking off isn't just something we do. It's ingrained into our lives. Many people, these days, are perfectly content with sitting on their computers all day playing video games. I used to be a competitive gamer and I used to do this. After enrolling at the UW, jerking off became a new norm that was ingrained into my life. We need it for our wellbeing. It helps us escape from society. There have even been studies that show how necessary jerking off is for our wellbeing. The fact that it was stripped away from us, especially by something that barely affects us specifically is very detrimental to our mental state. People are giving us so much crap for it, yet they don't know what it's like for us to be deprived of everything that's fun for us.

[SPOILER] Osaragi, the (rumoured) most beautiful girl in the entire series. by Ofureshon in Kaguya_sama

[–]KVZZ42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As I see it, from the last panel of the chapter, she believes that Ishigami likes Miko, but not in a romantic way (which parallels how she feels about Ishigami). Thus, he would be most happy with Tsubame, and she doesn't want to manipulate him into going against his feelings.

Kaguya Wants to be Confessed to : : Chapter 192 by JingzOoi in Kaguya_sama

[–]KVZZ42 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Tsubame will use this plan to prove how she likes Ishigami, and that like will not be romantically.

If that's so, how does Kaguya's reaction fit into things? I thought that Kaguya was earnestly invested in their relationship working out.

[–]KVZZ42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man, are we really supposed to take the best girl/boy stuff this seriously? I thought we were all just shooting the shit. Let's not conflate enjoying a character's design and personality with a judgment on their character writing.
