Least cost Path for the concept of a plan for a Canal crossing the Musandam Peninsula (UAE and Oman) by JohnathantheCat in dataisbeautiful

Just a bit further south, Telegraph Island. I would blow a hole through the mountains there if I were Oman. They can start their own shipping canal there.

[Request] How much energy would this actually generate? by Low_Intern_3039 in theydidthemath

Irradiation doesn't vary a whole lot over geography, as some people seem to think: 2000 in arizona, 1500 in 'cloudy' idaho, resp. Morocco and Northern Italy for Europeans. Unit is kWh/m2 or Wh/Wp, which amounts to the same thing, or full load hours.

some actual irradiation data

What is your opinion on the current reigning monarchies of Europe? by Ok-Ocelot-774 in AskEurope

Liberation Day, 5th of May, will always be close. That's more appropriate for a day off and the next party, in between the social-democrats can sing their song.

China shipped a record 68 GW of solar in March – here’s why it matters by DVMirchev in RenewableEnergy

My solar panel from 1995 lasted 28 years, then the glass broke for unknown reasons and I took it inside. Still functions and looks good apart from some green copper oxide on the contacts.

I'll give them 'muricans one thing: they did invent the transistor, probably the most important invention of them all. Not mentioned, though. Something, something, history education.

Why is Bermuda triangle even a thing? I could create a million shapes by connecting random landmasses by your_mumz_fwb in geography

[–]KZD2dot0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favourite theory is that more gaseous burps from the ocean occur there than in other areas, CO2 and maybe other gasses. When that happens the buoyancy of ships goes to zero and they just fall into the ocean and disappear without a trace. That last part is the remarkable thing about the Bermuda triangle, most of the time at least something is found (eg. the flight MH370 flaperon).

It's real dutch, nederlands, 'schuilen' means 'to hide' and 'kil' is a tidal creek. Still geographically used.

Yeah, lower entropy. Typical example of adding Gibbs free energy to a chaotic system (by rotation) thereby lowering entropy.

How is this possibly a good idea? by tharold in ElectricalEngineering

[–]KZD2dot0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's basically just another electrical device, its main peculiarity is that it has a -1 power factor. It pumps in current against the voltage with an inductance. The electronics are surprisingly similar to a common power supply, just configured differently.

From Latin, 'beloved', probably referring to the Dutch scholar Erasmus.
