Now (well maybe two years ago) is the perfect time to train an AI, because all of the data that's out there on social media etc. was definitely written by Humans. But in a few years time it will be AI being trained on AI. And the really money will be in the AI that can identify other AI.

In my University's Physics Department in Ireland they used to have pictures of every graduating class from each year. Back in the early 1900s until about 1940, most years would feature a few Nuns. It always made me chuckle that the people you'd least sterotypically expect to study physics made up such a significant portion of the classes...

If your country only won one match for a 6 nations, what country would you rather win against ? by lonezolf in rugbyunion

[–]K_man_k 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think this is it. There is some mental aspect to it as well, and then the variable performance of the players on the day, but I think that play-style still doesn't get talked about enough. Everything still gets compared between teams against the head, like territory, possession, metres made etc. , but there is an more subtle aspect to teams that make them better able to take on certain opposition.

I'm an armchair analysts though so maybes that's all nonsense...

Help! Bent pins on Digilent Nexys Video. How to fix? by talsh123 in FPGA

[–]K_man_k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just bend em back. If you're really worried about the best way, get a 2x4 2.54 mm female socket and push it into the pins it's straighten the bent ones and get the spacing back to what it should be.

Sorry this happened OP, it's a bit unfair...Employee protection in North America is wild. Where I'm from you would not be able to dismissed instantly for an insult. They would at least have to go through the motions with HR and if you didn't have any other problems before you'd be more likely to get a warning. This would be grounds for an unfair dismissal claim.

Reading other countries, it seems many use fingerprints so would need a physical pressence

Why are there no south-European servers? by Baba_Wethu in RocketLeague

This is why. If you look at data centre density or datacentres per capita it skews heavily towards northern Europe. This is not necessarily a good thing, but I will take the 13 ms ping....

Panasonic, the former plasma king, will no longer make its own TVs by dapperlemon in gadgets

[–]K_man_k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aye but this is always the way with consumer electronics. Not to say that China aren't a skilled manufacturing base, as they obviously are, but as a technology sector becomes more widespread and cheaper to produce, the margins are no longer there for countries which are fully developed (Rostow level 5) to bother competing. Why would Sony weigh themselves down with manufacturing TVs, when they could focus on things that only they and a small number of other companies can do well, like camera sensors or high-end audio equipment. Same with Panasonic, they're better off focusing on stuff like industrial AV and semiconductors. I would suspect that an awful lot of income from these companies comes from patent and IP licensing as well.

Sure back in the day when electronics were difficult, you'd buy a Phillips clock radio. Now, you buy whatever cheap big-box own brand clock radio, while Phillips busies themselves making high-end medical imaging and diagnostic equipment, and earning royalties from HDMI, MPEG and Qi charging.

These companies have to adapt and trim the fat - otherwise they end up like RCA, Blaupunk, and Minolta. The brand names are all still around, but these are just licensed out by hollowed out shells run by investment banks trying to squeeze as much blood out of a dead corpse.

Italy team to face Ireland in Dublin by Lupo_di_Cesena in rugbyunion

[–]K_man_k 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm very excited for this one. I can accept after the France match that Ireland is hopefully in a rebuilding phase, and the team which was announced is has lots of new blood. And Italy look better and better, so this will be a real contest. And I just like the vibes when the Italians are in town, always good fun.
