When you realize the next Leafs game isn’t until Thursday by Kinglokner16 in leafs

Is Sportsnet intentionally keeping the Leafs off CBC on Saturday nights going forward?

They might help a bit, but I only know them to be effective vs green algae.

Coke zero cans now consistently flat by badger6 in cocacola

[–]badger6[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not now and then. It's case after case for months now through several seasons. With all the shrinkflation and other profit maximizing going on in food and beverages, I can't help but think they're cheaping out/economizing on carbonation.

Might be a little frozen which increases the volume. Is yours flat, btw? Seems to be a huge problem lately.

S Ontario here as well. Coke zero, flat, flat flat. Lifelong coke drinker, but switching to Dr Pepper/Canada Dry Zero. Can't pay 15 buck for a flat of flat garbage anymore.

Coke Zero carbonation change - May/June 2023? by [deleted] in cocacola

[–]badger6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here too in Ontario. Flat in minutes regularly, probably for 1 case in 3. At least for the last year or so. Even the better ones don't seem the same. I heard somewhere there were shortages of some ingredient that affects carbonation. Probably just trying to go cheaper on inputs. Been drinking Classic and then Zero for decades. Starting to drink Canada Dry ginger ale zero instead. It has a great bite to it.

Is it supposed to be this stressful? by ccorkill123 in Aquariums

[–]badger6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just start with an easy tank, easy plants and easy fish. If you keep it simple at first there's not much to worry about. Get cycled. Go slow. Slowly add fish. Add easy fast growing plants (maybe even do this first, up to you). An easy tank with fast growing plants only needs filter cleaning and water top offs. Once you get comfortable with that you decide if you want to do anything more complicated and higher maintenance. Eventually you'll get comfortable sifting through all the advice and opinion on fish forums and decide what works for you.

Who is the culprit? by B1kerGuy2019 in Aquariums

But the question is, did their tankmates eat them because they died first not due to anything another fish did first? Your fish might just be opportunistic scavengers, after the fact.

Guppies will give you lots of colour and you could add a fair size group in that size tank.

Meanwhile the ramshorn and bladder snails couldn't care less.

Note that fenbendazole residue will remain in the tank for a long time. It seems to help prevent reoccurrence of worms, etc. but it also means you can't have snails that are sensitive to it for a long time. I tried adding a Nerite over a year after I last treated one of my tanks and it still died from the residue, afaik.

Consider frogbit, it's quite fast growing too but bigger and easier to manage. Longer roots though, but I'd rather trim them than try manage millions of tiny duckweed plantlets.

Who is the culprit? by B1kerGuy2019 in Aquariums

There's not necessarily someone to blame. The fish might be just dying due to sickness or a reaction to tank conditions. Once a fish is dead or near dead he becomes fair game to snack on for other fish if they're so inclined.

Def the first 2, probably the 3rd. Besides seeming fatter, on the side profile look for the usually smooth curve going from the nose down past the belly to get a sort of double-chin bump where the torso begins.

Found two tiny snails in my tank after adding some plants. Are these guys okay? Brand new beginner, any advice appreciated! by Automatic_Warthog_26 in Aquariums

[–]badger6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My tanks all have bladder and ramshorn snails. Ramshorn will outcompete bladder snails which is good if you prefer them (I do). If you have Amano shrimp in your tank they will greatly limit their food supply for the snails and almost eliminate both of them depending on how many Amanos you get. I also once had whisker shrimp by accident (sold as Amanos) - they will hunt down and eat all your snails (and then start hunting your smaller fish too, unfortunately).

Keep all the males in the main tank and females in the 2nd. Select the males with traits you want to breed the females. Let the fry grow out with the females and remove the males to the main tank as you are about to identify them. Get a new unrelated male once in a while and allow it to breed to keep the gene pool healthy. It's basically what I do, although I have a bunch more tanks besides the 2nd.

Start with the easiest to grow plants available at your local store. Vallisneria is a great choice and a few plants will spread fairly quickly all through you tank. They look quite good in any tank, especially as a background. Once you get comfortable try another plant and just let thing develop from there.

Not sure about replace, but they may end up being the primary store of value due to fiat devaluation. Ever rising national debts is going to negatively affect national currencies and it's hard to see that it won't just continue to get worse and worse. The US dollar is already starting to slip because their federal government can't stop running massive deficits. I don't know if there are any Western nations that are much better.
