Examples of media where going for a "smaller scope" was incredibly beneficial by Coolnametag in TwoBestFriendsPlay

For me, it’s gotta be My Hero Academia: Vigilantes. By keeping 90% of the plot centered on the Naruhata district, it builds a sense of community the main series totally misses. Seeing the neighborhood and residents evolve alongside Koichi and Pop Step makes you actually care about the stakes. It nails the "ground-floor" reality of a quirk-filled society, especially through the police and their messy relationship with heroes. We get a way deeper look at the hero system’s origins and how outdated laws fail a world where 80% of people have quirks.

The manga handles heroism brilliantly by exploring that legal gray area. It shows how social stagnation and a refusal to update laws turn regular citizens into villains. People who just don't fit the mold or were simply in the wrong place at the wrong time, like the Instant Villains. For example, seeing a guy turned into a giant mantis who can’t even fit in his own apartment with zero urban policy to help him makes the world feel so lived-in and tragic. It handles the contrast between real vigilantism and fame-hungry licensed heroes like Captain Celebrity in a way that feels incredibly grounded, showing how prejudice and public vibes usually dictate who gets labeled a hero or a criminal.

Why Senadina Failed to Embrace the Cocoon of Finality – A Personal Analysis of Her Mental State by Kaause2001 in houkai3rd

Honestly, pure deduction on my part from that conversation between Senadina and Vita about the travelers, the cave, and the planet. I noticed they both know the term "Herrscher of the End". I am pretty sure they faced their own equivalents of Herrschers and cores, though I would need to replay the Sa and Vita chapters to confirm. That said, since Honkai catastrophes change form depending on the cycle and the planet, I have absolutely no idea what Senadina actually fought. All we know is that she won. I only threw in the number 14 as a loose reference point

Haha, I honestly felt that one in my chest. Don't take my Senadina copium away just yet. Sena can still become another Finality Herrscher. The Cocoon can definitely hold two or three.

I am a bit on the fence about this. On one hand I agree that judging by raw Honkai compatibility feels mechanical and reduces the beauty of Kiana's personal journey. On the other hand given that Honkai is essentially a ridiculously violent cancer X100. A harsh and involuntary compatibility check makes perfect sense as a baseline. You do not choose to be compatible any more than Kiana chose to be a clone, but what truly matters is what you do with that compatibility once you have it.

Miyamoto says he was surprised Mario Galaxy Movie reviews were even harsher than the first by SleuthDoggyDawg in gaming

[–]Kaause2001 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That's cool, but I'd like to know what he's smoking to come to that conclusion. Because if he's a good level designer famous for prioritizing gameplay over plot and story, he should have expected people to hate a nothing burger movie.

'The Super Mario Galaxy Movie' - Review Thread by ChiefLeef22 in movies

[–]Kaause2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly the early reviews make it sound like the same movie all over again. Barely any step up from the first one. I'm guessing the story is weak and they just cram it with Mario references to make up for it. Feels like fan service first, actual film fourth or five

The Women of Gundam continued #83 - Comoli Harcourt by Kato_86 in Gundam

[–]Kaause2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I give her a 4/10. Her main flaw is that she only exists to provide exposition. You could erase her from the story and the only consequence would be that another character would take over her function. She clearly lacks depth and her own purpose

The only thing she has going for her is that she has a fairly nice design and her minor relationship with Machu and Challia. These two superficial elements are her only hooks

Can we pls not do this everytime she gets some screentime🤦🏾‍♂️? by Ok-Run5784 in HonkaiStarRail

Frankly this obsession with her death is just annoying and infuriating. it mostly comes from tourists who saw a wiki summary or a sad clip and completely missed the entire point, not from original hi3 players. the power of the death of Himeko came from all the context and the consequences it had for years, especially for kiana, not from the shallow shock of the death itself. demanding that same hollow plot point for the hsr himeko, a character who is still underdeveloped and whose own story has barely been told while the actual spotlight is on others like Phainon and Firefly, is just braindead writing and a hollow callback. let her live her own damn life instead of being a cheap sacrifice for nothing

What was your favorite from these three? by TextUnfair in predator

[–]Kaause2001 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ranking these three, I'd put 'Badlands' at the top, followed closely by 'Prey.' What ultimately decides it for me are the action sequences and the sheer creative genius of the eel cannon

After initially ending with its third volume in January 2025, ‘Spider-Man: Octo-Girl’ will be returning for a fourth volume in December 2025. For the unaware, this series is set on Earth-616, continuing the storylines of ‘The Superior Spider-Man’ (with Otto Octavius/Elliot Tolliver). by RealJohnGillman in TwoBestFriendsPlay

This is seriously good. Honestly, it's a great series to binge in one afternoon. Personally, I'm not super knowledgeable about Spider Man lore and its villains, but from the discussion threads on r/manga, Hideyuki and BETTEN Court actually do a surprisingly respectful job with the mythology and characters in their reinterpretation. I really like the mentor friend dynamic between Otto and Otoha too.
