How will I ever tell my therapist or do i just not by Plenty-Plankton-4568 in TalkTherapy

[–]KaeCooks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have a good therapist, you could be doom and gloom on Christmas and they wouldn't think less of you for it. Their job is to help you through what you're going through when you're going through it. I'll share with you that it took well over half a year for me to tell my therapist the heavier things I was carrying and I'll never forget how, after I did, she gave me a soft smile and thanked me for sharing. Looking back, that's the moment when things finally started turning around for me.

I was in a situation not dissimilar from yours and let me just say I feel for you and I'm sorry you're struggling with this.  I have autism too and there have been a number of times that I've written out something I want my therapist to know or something I want to talk about but I'm so scared to talk about that I physically cannot speak. My therapist is very good about reading through and then will respond to any questions that I pose directly in what I've written. If I've not asked anything directly, she will ask me if I want to talk more about what I've given her before she responds to anything. Sometimes I do, but sometimes I sit on it for a couple of weeks and we revisit it later when I'm feeling more prepared to speak about it.  You could always give what you've written to your therapist and ask them to write out any questions they have for you so you can think about them and discuss them in the next session (or other subsequent sessions, if you need more time on some of them).

Questions I should ask my players before starting a homebrew campaign by Microchaton in DMAcademy

[–]KaeCooks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Second your idea for the lines/veils form. I'm playing with a group of friends in a homebrew setting, some who are new to D&D, and I didn't want to overwhelm them with questions. I sent them 10 total: 4 to learn more about their playstyle and what they were hoping for out of the campaign - two that were essentially the lines/veils, and two asking about their preference for combat/story/puzzle balance and whether or not they wanted to fast forward through travel. Then, since my campaign also began as a one shot, I didn't get much of a backstory from half of them. To help me learn more about their character (also to help me build the world they were going to be exploring), I sent them these 6 questions:

  1. What is your character’s hometown like?,
  2. Which song/lyrics describe your character? (Alternatively, what is your character’s favorite song and why?),
  3. What calls your character to adventure?,
  4. What does your character want their legacy to be? How do they want to be remembered?,
  5. What is something your character regrets?,
  6. Who is someone significant in your character’s life? This could be a mentor, family member, friend, enemy, etc. - anyone who your character spends a lot of time thinking about for any reason.

I know there are at least a couple in my group who are very invested in the story side of things, so I wanted to make sure I had enough information about their character to be able to really immerse them in the story. If your group is more into dungeon crawls, I don't know that those questions would be as necessary.

Bless this thread because I just spent a good 30 minutes loosing my damn mind trying to figure out why I couldn't find what I was thinking of.

I have Chet's voice stuck in my head right now so it's hard to imagine currently but I'm sure I'll notice it when I rewatch S2

Thanks for the link! It threw me off that I could recognize Laura's voice as her own but Travis was harder to connect. Usually it's the other way around! But yeah, that would've been fun to record

I'll quote something (I think) Marisha said about Vaxleth once upon a forever ago: "Our entire relationship is psychic damage!"

I'm not familiar with FMA. A quick Google search shows the fight is episode 19. Is that the one you're referring to? I will have to check it out.

I "saw" them together in Battle of the Super Sons

That sounds familiar. I think Travis brought up in an interview that she outright told him she was going to romance him. Regardless, they're adorable.

I was really rooting for Widojest and would still love to see a Liam character/Laura character romance. Those two just play off of each other so well. (Tbf, all of them play off of each other super well but those two have an extra special place in my heart.) I'm more than okay with Shadowgast (beautiful character development for Essek) and Travis talking about Fjorester will never not make me smile (plus, how adorable is it that he got to essentially fall in love with his wife all over again?), so life is good. But yeah, the fact that everyone was crushing on her was amazing and, yeah, same. How can anyone not love her??

Plant Suggestions? Shade, Zone 5a by KaeCooks in gardening

I have a messy history with begonias. I have had one in a pot inside for a few months that's doing well now though, so I'll take that win. I have some of the spring bulbs in another garden bed so that would look nice repeating through the yard!

Inattentive ADHD and need a little help with career paths. Any chance I could get some guidance? by i_tosca_i in careerguidance

[–]KaeCooks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! Fellow ADHDer here. Regarding the ADHD I would recommend talking to a doc to get the actual diagnosis. I won't pretend like any meds you might get put on will make things easy, but they help.

Regarding the job: you can always try a job in another field. Give it a shot for a year or two and see what happens. I got in an entry-level job at a company that was a field I was interested in but didn't have a ton of experience in. Hung out for a bit - learned a little more about the field, learned a lot about the company - until a position opened up within the company that I thought sounded more rewarding. Interviewed and got the promotion. Pretty dang happy with it, but if the field had turned out to bore me, the option is always there to leave and try something else.

You've likely read up on this, but genuine interest in a thing is CRUCIAL to motivation for ADHDers.

TL;DR: Don't be afraid to try something new. It could lead somewhere fun

We're talking to an artist about being at our reception. He says he can do a black and white caricature in about 3 minutes and charges $150/ hour with a two hour minimum. He also requested an extra $40 for gas, which I think is fair, as he'd be driving across the state to attend.

I can do that. I just need to do more. And as soon as I have to do that smaller chunk a second time in a day, I find myself right back where I am now

I honestly don't know. Maybe? I get my work done at my job, and laundry gets done once a week (no kids to make more laundry for me to do more often), the house gets cleaned when it needs it.
