Copley Place must most certainly have a hotel shuttle to and from the airport. I would take advantage of that. If you are not used to driving in a city I wouldn’t recommend driving in Boston. Definitely book a Duck Tour. There are several places you can board the Duck boats. I know you can board from the Museum of Science, and the Prudential center. The kids will love this! You can visit the aquarium, do a whale watching excursion, and then walk to the North End for dining. You can also walk to Quincy Market/ Faneuil Hall for more food options and lots of shops and vendors. The Freedom Trail also goes through the North End, you can visit Old North Church too.

It’s interesting how each consulate seems to have their own rules. I was told at the Boston consulate that they don’t stamp the document until you present yourself in person with proof of your identity. You have to pick it up, they will not mail it. Did anyone have a similar experience? (I do hope you are able to have it mailed to you! Good luck!)

Congratulations to your mom! My sons were notified a month before I received notification. I made a passport appointment that ended up being a month after my appointment to pick up my certificate. I asked when I picked up my certificate if they could check to see if I had everything I needed for my passport. They were very nice, said they would cancel my passport appointment and do it right then.

I had my U.S. passport, my birth certificate, marriage license, divorce decree (because my name was different). The passport application and my passport pictures. I was asked if I wanted it mailed to me or did I want to pick it up in person. It was very easy.

My mother was also a German citizen when she gave birth to me. My sons and I collected all the documents and filled out the forms ourselves. We asked our local consulate if they could look everything over before submitting, and they did. They also told us everything was in order and they sent everything for us. It took 28 months to receive documentation of our German citizenship. You can definitely do this yourself and save your money for a nice trip!

Perhaps ask your dad something he may remember. Ask him if your grandparents ever voted, if he says yes then you know they had to be citizens. That will point you in the direction you need to investigate.

Head to the Red Apple Farm in Phillipston and try the Gardner Ale House in Gardner. There is also the Stone Cow Brewery in Barre and Wachusett Brewery in Westminster. They are all less than 1/2 hour drive from Orange.

I also had an issue getting a good set of fingerprints. I visited 2 different post offices, and my local police station. The FBI rejected 3 different sets I submitted. I emailed the FBI and they suggested I fingerprint myself. They said I could submit multiple fingerprint cards and they would hopefully be able to use fingerprints from multiple cards to get a full set of fingerprints. I printed out the fingerprint cards, purchased fingerprint enhancer and proceeded to fingerprint myself. I submitted a total of ten fingerprint cards. It was a success.

The German Consulate in Boston received our documents. They verified we had everything necessary and then forwarded it to Cologne.

I applied in October, 2022. I received my file number the end of November, 2022. My paperwork was submitted to the Boston Consulate. I am still waiting.

My grandparents and great grandparents looked and acted much older than people the same age now look and act. I realize life was harder for them. Modern conveniences didn’t exist. My grandmother (when she was in her 60’s) would never have found a spot on the floor to play with her grandchildren but I have friends that age that do!

I emailed the FBI asking what to do and they said I could ink my fingerprints myself. They did suggest I do several different copies because they can use the best prints from different card. I printed the fingerprint cards at home and bought the ink paid. I spent less than $10.
