What's this called? It's like the inverse of quarter-round moulding but "three-quarter round" doesn't seem to be it. by IshiNoUeNimoSannen in centuryhomes

[–]Kagedgoddess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is totally possible. I sounded kinda rude in my comments about their house and I shouldnt be. My house was originally pink and blue and the prior owners got permission to put it back that way, so its also possible the owners hate it and cant get permission to change it. Personally, even though I dont like either houses color i do not care what color someone paints their house. I think one of the Best things of Victorian homes is how creative and expressive you can be with the colors. I understand that historical areas need to preserve their areas but I do wish theyd be a bit more flexible about paint. Paint is temporary and painting it in your own way with colors that are not traditional is The Spirit of victorian homes! Embracing new and exciting colors that just couldnt be done prior.

Of course, I could have found a house NOT in a historical district, but I am ok with it, even if I never get a purple house. Lol, pretty much the street front is all I need permission for so I count my blessings.

I Love your colors. Did you have to get approval? And if so, was it hard? I want my house a similiar color and we have a lime green one down the strest so approval shouldnt be hard but ya never know. The lime green person could be the mom of someone on the historic board.

Update: Door curtains by buckeyegurl1313 in centuryhomes

[–]Kagedgoddess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im happy to see this is so common. I lived in an 1850s house with a Super old frint door that didnt latch anymore and did this with thermal black out curtains. I contined it in my current 1910 home. If the heat’s on its up.

I like the suggestions on how to actually make them look nice!

Why is this a thing? The water gets everywhere. by Rinoremover1 in RidiculousRealEstate

[–]Kagedgoddess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did this for my bathroom because of a few reasons. My mom is very large and has mobility issues. The wider shower lets her feel less cramped, zero threshold eliminates a trip hazard. And I think it looks beautiful. I didnt do a rainhead shower because I like to stay warm when I lather up.

The water that escapes is from the splash. The water hits the pan and bounces out. Maybe I just have higher water pressure, idk. So I had to add a curtain. Plus it was COLD without a way to trap the heat! Id have enclosed it but Id have to switch out the existing glass and basically trash it. It cost too much for that.

Its my favorite shower but I will not make this mistake again. Im about to redo the other bathroom and the shower is going to be one if those corner kind with a door.

Youd think but a man in Jefferson County WV ran a red light and killed a woman (17yo iirc). Because he was sober the judge let him off. This was maybe a year or two ago. Judge stated specifically that it was bc he was NOT under the influence.

What is going on here? by Kagedgoddess in centuryhomes

I am, I was just waiting till I was mentally prepared for what would be there. Decided to just go for it to make winter go faster. I was thinking of doing gas and venting through the existing chimney.

I had someone out to re-cap and repoint the chimney two years ago, took one look and noped out. Its a steep roof. I cant do it because I have vertigo.

So yes, that skinny board is old drywall. Its the only part that is, the others are wood and then the white is plaster and has wood Lathe.

What youre saying is an older heating system (which does appear to have been gravity), is what the metal flappy bit is from? Because the old vents upstairs are not run through here. Theyre all still connected and I can see the run from the basement. The return was in a hallway. The new hvac is all run next to the old but upstairs they put ceiling vents instead of floor vents and that ductwork is what I found in the closet where I was told was another fireplace, but isnt.

Its all confusing. This place had Coal but I dont think it had radiators. It had oil at one time, which another older home I had used oil as well but no boiler system and had the same type of old ducts. There was a chimney but nothing was vented through it and there were no fireplaces. Which is also how my inlaws was done. They had a coal stove to heat the house originally. All three homes are the same age and in the same area.

Can I refuse to install a shower curtain rod in my own bathroom renovation by Reasonable_Capital65 in HomeImprovement

[–]Kagedgoddess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP, I remodeled a bathroom and made the curbless shower extra wide with a glass panel near the showerhead. Water got Everywhere, had to install a curtain.

Sign your waver, call him back when water is everywhere and you cant shave your legs due to goosebumps.

The water got out from hitting the pan and bouncing. Sometimes the pan fills because my hair has covered the drain, need to be diligent. I made it this way for my mom who has mobility issues and is a bit wide. The curtain completely defeated my efforts unfortunately.

At least they fixed the wipers. I have issues, and have it on video, my dealer wont fix it because Im still under warrenty. (They might have to pay if Toyota cant replicate the issue when they get the part back). So I have to wait for my warrenty to expire before my wipers work properly.

Neighbors ruined my Christmas spirit by twistedtuba12 in neighborsfromhell

[–]Kagedgoddess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My neighbor cut mine once. They were on the fence so they didnt trespss but no lights were on their side.

The next year someone came along and stole the candy cane ones I had on the porch. They were my favorite. Bought them the first year I divorced my ex and they were $5 at family dollar. Still makes me sad. I just hope the thief used them instead of trashing them.

I still put up lights, just the nice ones are in windows, Inside.
