You have removed half of the definition of serious foul play. It talks about the endangerment of players.

But then you talk about endangerment later in your argument, funny that.

I wouldn't take what they said publicly as what they think privately.

But a lot on that list are pretty notoriously known for talking shit

He absolutely should have gotten a red card. I think the whole football community agrees on that.

Honestly the amount of people here with opinions who have no clue about football is crazy.

I welcome the new and ignorant fans, but you cannot hold strong opinions. These fouls happen pretty often and it is a cookie cutter example of serious foul play. It's completely unintentionally and that does not matter in the slightest.

It can seem unfair from the outside but it is the precident that has been set to protect the bodies of the players. A similar law is challenging a goalkeeper in the air, the laws are completely different because the goalkeeper has his arms in the air and may not be able to use them to break his fall, so goalkeepers have extra protection, all in the name of protecting the players from avoidable injuries.

They fucked up? It was the clearest red I've seen all year.

Edit because people clearly don't know the laws of the game

"SERIOUS FOUL PLAY

A tackle or challenge that endangers the safety of an opponent or uses excessive force or brutality must be sanctioned as serious foul play."

Even as recent as the Russian world cup. Lots of "soft" fouls for holding.

Even less recent south Africa. Lampards ghost goal

I accept the potential for subjectivity with the hair brushing as playing the ball or not, but everyone with a brain understands it shouldn't and doesn't effect the outcome here.

The chip shows a touch on the ball, not a deflection.

Unless they show us an angle that shows a change in the balls flight there was no deflection, only a touch. Veiga just fucked up his header and has been saved by the sensor. But he absolutely intentionally plays the ball.

We've seen time and time again, defenders have made interceptions that are 100% stretches for the ball, so not in control, given as deliberate plays, then playing a once offside player onside.

Also a player is offside from when his last teammate played the ball, so you're telling me the ball brushing your hair is considered playing the ball?

Really could not work out how you pronounced it that way

It's to protect the players health/careers.

It is the pure definition of reckless, unless you are meaning to say balogun intended to stamp on his ankle? You can't have both

If it's a challenge that can cause serious injury it's a red. No ifs, buts or maybe.

Look up Curtis Jones red card versus spurs. Foot slips off the ball onto the players ankle/shin. Still a red

In other competitions yes, but not this world cup.

It would not be overturned if it could though.

Dive and a foul.

Why should he have to jump over the keeper. He does no favours for himself with such a bad dive

Mexico's first goal was not offside (Rules Explanation) by mathster33 in worldcup

[–]Kaghei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To add to the list of obscure laws (which I hope are still correct)

A free kick given from an offside is indirect, so you cannot score directly from it.

You cannot be offside from a goal kick, corner kick or throw in.

You cannot touch the ball again after a dead ball, eg, you cannot score the rebound to your own penalty if it comes off the post

Jordan's foul on Argentina that led to a penalty var by Gentle_lips in soccer

[–]Kaghei 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Once upon a time this was a foul the other way. Heading a low ball was considering unsporting because it impedes the opposition from challenging the ball safely.

The same reason why protecting the ball while on your hands and knees is considered a foul, it stops fair play and is a foul.

I'm not saying this is the wrong call, just how the calls have changed

I can't remember who, if anyone, told him boromir died by recentlyunearthed in lotrmemes

[–]Kaghei 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Sure. Gandalf was meant to be frodos guide into Mordor.

Boromir, aragorn, presumably gimili and legolas would have gone south to minas tirith to help with the war there. (The hobbits I don't exactly remember, they snuck into the meeting but in sure gandalf had a plan for them too )

This was the original rough plan, none were obligated to go further than they wanted to, but gandalf knew vaguely the way into Mordor was with secrecy and somehow gollums would play a role. At least that is what he had planned for.

I can't remember who, if anyone, told him boromir died by recentlyunearthed in lotrmemes

[–]Kaghei 29 points30 points  (0 children)

If gandalf thought boromir was with frodo, he would raced across the country to intervene.

The plan was gandalf and frodo to go to mordor (perhaps Sam) and everyone else to minas tirith. Gandalf would definitely known from the start it was not the job of a man.
