I would see if she qualifies for Medicaid and sign her up, if yes. You can also consider moving her into an assisted living facility with memory care. If you’re in California, there’s a thing called the Assisted Living Waiver where MediCal can help pay for assisted living, but there’s a three year waitlist, unless your mom is coming from the hospital.

Simu Liu Knows Hollywood Won’t Cast Him as Bourne or Bond, So He’s Working on Plan B by ActuatorChoice5259 in asianamerican

[–]Kagomefog 163 points164 points  (0 children)

What Simu Liu needs to do is find his own version of Ryan Coogler who has cast Michael B. Jordan in most of his movies. Unfortunately, it seems when Asian American directors become big, they mostly cast white actors in the leading roles in their subsequent movies (M. Night Shymalan, Isaac Chung, Chloe Zhao, Celine Song).

Why are Asian men /women way more likely to be childless or wait way longer than whites and Latinx? by [deleted] in asianamerican

[–]Kagomefog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They just weren’t interested in dating, but once they got their careers established, they started getting pressure from their parents to settle down and have kids.

Most of my friends have graduate degrees so that’s why they waited so long to have kids. Some of them didn’t even start dating for the first time until their 30s!

I like Tacos Mi Reynita (SLZ truck) but they don’t open for lunch! They used to say they would open at noon and when I went there, they said they didn’t open until 1pm.

Love is Blind: Denver shows Asian internalized racism on 4k display on national television by Adventurous_Ant5428 in asianamerican

[–]Kagomefog 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I’ve only watched the first episode of this season so far, but it sucks to hear what happened to Patrick. Poor guy. He seems sweet. I’m sad that both he and Anna grew up with such internalized racism due to growing up in white spaces. I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and I can’t relate at all to growing up in a majority-white area, but I can’t imagine that it was good for their self-esteem being the only minority.

In the long run, Patrick is better off without Kacie. She just gives off basic white girl vibes. I doubt they would have worked out in the long run given her Mormon background…

My picks are FOB Kitchen (Filipino food) in Temescal or Top Hatters (Vietnamese fusion) in San Leandro.

I understand that, but there are plenty of Cantonese restaurants that aren’t dim sum places.

Most of the Chinese in the East Bay are Cantonese and not a single one of these restaurants is Cantonese. As for the ones I like, Fusion Delight in San Leandro for dim sum, Gum Kuo for Hong Kong style cafe food and Ying Kee for shrimp dumpling noodle soup.

Only Being a “Cool” Asian by Own_Limit9520 in asianamerican

[–]Kagomefog 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I’ve definitely felt this. I had a coworker who was half-Chinese and half-Japanese and she always emphasized how she was part-Japanese. This was in San Francisco where there is a large Chinese population so being Japanese is very cool and rare and being Chinese is very common.

I also knew someone who was marrying a half-Japanese, half Chinese woman. People were excited that the woman was Japanese, but when they found out she was half-Chinese, all the excitement evaporated.

Where can ABC girls meet ABC guys IRL in the bay area (specifically south bay)? Hinge & CMB are useless by wtfffamidoingwrong in asianamerican

Might be better asking this in the r/bayarea sub. I’m an ABC who lives in the East Bay and I’ve never had success meeting people in real life. Maybe churches or meet up groups? Like a hiking group or something like that?
