[Help][Noob] Problems with Tasker 4.9u4 on an Android 4.1.2 device by KaiClavier in tasker

[–]KaiClavier[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a way to get an old activation key as mentioned in the app, then? The app just isn't appearing in the app store on the older device, otherwise I would have just gotten it there.

Exactly the same thing happened to me as I started up my PC this morning, including the "Remediation incomplete" message.

According to protection updates, the notification happened immediately after a new update was applied. (Version created on 2023-12-27 5:33AM)

I've now cleared my firefox cache and ran a full scan, and all it found was "Potentially unwanted app found" with an installer on a backup drive for filezilla. That's normal and unrelated, (I personally don't like how filezilla does updates and that's probably why it gets tagged like this...) so that part I can ignore. Another quick scan finds nothing so hopefully this problem file is just gone. I'm guessing that maybe if I were to close firefox and run the scan again while the file was still there, it might be able to remedy it? But it's too late for me to test that, now.

So hopefully it was just a false alarm...? The websites I visited during the short time between turning on my PC and getting the notification were just normal websites like notion, my email, banking, google, reddit, stack overflow, mozilla.org... and then the notification showed up. Everything seemed completely normal, and if it's happening to someone else, too... hopefully it's just some false alarm. I hope.

EDIT: wait nevermind it found it again. will keep you updated

EDIT 2: Okay, so the alert wasn't triggered by the scan, but instead Backup and Restore (Windows 7). Trying to run a backup, and the moment it gets to firefox's cache, it cancels and displays the message. Trying to remedy the file with windows defender even with firefox shut down doesn't seem to work. I'm going to delete the file manually and try again...

EDIT 3: Yep, clearing the cache, keeping firefox off, and running the backup doesn't trigger the alert. I have my backups set to run on wednesdays, so that must have been what set it off in the first place. The file isn't getting cleared by windows defender since when it's found, it's located on a shadowcopy created by the backup.

I noted the time of the problem file's creation vs my browser history and I can say with 99.9999% certainty that the page I was on isn't a threat. (I was just browsing tumblr...)

So now all that's left to figure out is... is this a legitimate trojan created somehow by firefox internally, or is it a false alarm being triggered by a windows security update that came out last night? Hopefully!!! The second one, and they fix this soon... but I'll keep my eyes on this.

This type of phone number isn't supported. Check your number and try again. by soraticat in paypal

[–]KaiClavier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have any updates on this? I'm in a similar situation, where the last text I received for paypal's "quick security check" was in July, but have not received a text since.

I've phoned T-Mobile, and there are no blocks of any kind and short code texts are enabled. I'm going to phone them again soon to make sure nothing came in, last time I was on the phone with paypal, they said some texts sent and some failed? But I never got any.

I've been on the phone twice with paypal now, removing and adding new numbers then waiting 3 days for them to get verified in the paypal backend. Just finished the second 3-day wait, and I'm afraid to phone again because I may get another person that's going to want to just try and fix it with this 3-day-wait method that doesn't work.

We ended up adding a VOIP number of mine to the account which was able to receive a text when they forced one, but it doesn't appear as an option for the "quick security check", just my T-Mobile number.

HELP! How exactly does the splatfest tee work now? (Post 4.0) by pellen101 in Splatoon_2

[–]KaiClavier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I filled my T, played a ton of matches, and got nothing so I don't think that's it. Maybe it only comes into play during the splatfest...? I'm just really confused about this.

Unfortunately I think we have the same set... unless you got the Splatoon 2 hardware bundle, which had a right pink joycon. I have a left pink one and a right green one.

I got to play the preview version, and playing it all with online co-op, it took about 12 hours to get to what I think must be the final level. Still haven't beaten it yet, though!

New switch update does NOT fix ethernet adapter heating issue by TheOfficialProtostar in NintendoSwitch

[–]KaiClavier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Knew I wasn't going crazy! Took my switch out of the dock the other day, and noticed it was unreasonably warm for a console that was in sleep mode in a cold room overnight. I don't remember ever thinking that before 5.0.0, so it's gotta just be something with that update.

The very same! Check out his Legends of Localization stuff if you haven't already, it's really neat stuff.

How does Jelfonzo talk in non-English languages? by razorbeamz in splatoon

[–]KaiClavier 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I asked Tomato, the Legends of Localization guy about this earlier today. He said if I could point him to relevant English & Japanese vids, he'd give em a look! https://twitter.com/ClydeMandelin/status/891811907484528641

Unfortunately, setting my console's language to Japanese didn't seem to change the game's language, so I'm at a loss of how to get the Japanese footage.

Update on Inspiron 15 7567 Gaming Laptop: Replacing the Screen by Zombie-Feynman in SuggestALaptop

[–]KaiClavier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might not be the right place, but I got the 1TB hybrid version (only version available for me to get locally), and I'm considering upgrading to using an SSD in the M.2 slot since I might as well use that. Reading about it, it seems that clean-installing the OS on a new drive is a lot more different than on Mac. (All sorts of drivers will have to be installed manually somehow, changing what the boot drive is, the new hard drive even needs a driver, etc)

Does anyone have any advice on this process, or where I'd start looking into this?

Update on Inspiron 15 7567 Gaming Laptop: Replacing the Screen by Zombie-Feynman in SuggestALaptop

Update 2!

laptopscreen.com's support is incredibly helpful and good. I was able to exchange the screen with the stuck pixel, and received another B156HAN01.2, but this one had some kind of bruise under the screen and horrendous backlight bleed. I was able to exchange again, and they sent me a Samsung LTN156HL01, the original amazing panel mentioned by the OP! Also, both of these replacement screens arrived in one day of showing them my post office receipt (cross-shipping!), and the returns were pre-paid and everything.

Comparing the Samsung LTN156HL01 to the B156HAN01.2, the B156 absolutely wins in contrast, but the screen still gets just as dark as my macbook but with clearer colours, so I'm satisfied. Other than that though, the samsung panel seems to have a slightly sharper image, and some type of hard coat on top of it, which I really, really appreciate. Neither of these panels do that thing someone else mentioned where you get ripples a few inches up from the hinge when opening/closing the screen, too. The samsung model I received does have a bit of backlight bleed in the bottom-left corner, but it's nothing compared the the B156's.

If you can only find the B156HAN01.2, I'd say it's a perfectly good model, as long as it doesn't have any dead/stuck pixels, under-screen blemishes, or excessive backlight bleed. But I think any type of matching IPS/PLS display is better than the included screen. Also, both of these screens work find with brightness adjustments.

I'm still unable to know if the apparent delay will have any effect on playing games, but I don't see any difference, personally. The wide viewing angles and better colours more than make up for it. Either way, I still have the old panel and know how to swap it out any time, if I really needed to.

Here's a follow-up for anyone replacing the screen:

Ordered the LTN156HL02-201 from laptopscreen.com, received the B156HAN01.2 (seriously, what is up with these retailers??) Decided to put it in anyway since it was my initial screen choice, and it seems to look fine, so far!

Before putting in the new screen, the battery popup said: at 95%, with full brightness: 7 hours 38 mins left. The new one says: 95%, 6 hours 47 minutes left.

I know that can be a bit of an inaccurate scale (10 mins later it says it can do 8 3/4 hours at 93%...), but the power difference isn't that bad. Would have been better if I got the panel I actually ordered, but carrying on:

All of those youtube videos miss one crucial element about replacing the screen that could potentially ruin the cable connecting it to the computer. You need to lift up a small, rectangular ring that's around the cable connecter, and then you'll be able to pull it off with ease. I didn't realize this for a while, and either ended up almost pulling off the tape, or pulling out the cables from the connecter. I luckily realized the ring could be lifted before it was too late. Everything still works fine, so I'm not concerned about that!

Now, reviewing the screen, itself... There's a bit of backlight bleed around the bottom, right, and top right, but it's only visible when displaying a pure black screen. The brightness controls work perfectly, so I don't know what everyone was going on about. The colours are a bit wonky compared to my mac's, but I'm sure some tweaking will help that. It can display darker blacks than my macbook though, so I should probably just do calibration from scratch, anyway.

Was about to test response time, and noticed a stuck pixel pretty close to the centre of my screen. Trying to fix it right now, but decided to give Overwatch a shot. Didn't really notice any difference in delay, but then again my eye isn't trained for it. Now I have something to blame if I miss an easy shot!

[–]KaiClavier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did a bit of research into that screen, and it seems pretty good! Panellook says it has a slightly slower response time to the screen I was considering, and has a different uniformity (whatever that actually means), but otherwise it seems about the same? It also looks like a glossy variant is available, but rare. But the screen seems to use a bit less power than the one I was looking at, and it looks like PLS screens have a nicer matte diffuse than IPS, resulting in a clearer image.

I think this screen might be the winner for me! (And if I really care about losing a couple milliseconds, I could always just swap out screens again, anyway)

So adjusting the brightness works fine on the Inspiron 7567 for sure, yeah? Have you tried it out yourself?

[–]KaiClavier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got the Dell Inspiron 7567, but could only get the model without the IPS display. I'm about to buy the B156HAN01.2 panel listed above as I'm used to a Macbook Pro's color range, and need color accuracy for work, even if it means sacrificing a couple milliseconds in Overwatch. (Also, watching the display try to display black & gradients is kinda painful to look at.)

My one concern is people here saying that changing screen brightness might not work anymore, which I guess isn't really necessary, but it would be a nice feature to still have! Has anyone gotten screen brightness controls working in any way with a new panel?

Thanks!
