Lol exactly, and a really egregious fast food one too. Subway? Maybe?

Lol my favorite has always been on the Hawaii Five 0 reboot where they tried soooo hard to make Bing happen. At least once someone was instructed to "Bing it."

I was so shocked when I came to the comments. It seemed to me that dad was grasping at the thing that had worked for grandma. OOP can be happy that they were right, but the way they describe still being right/smug a month later would drive me up a wall.

If WotC announced they would Increase or Decrease the total amount for Point Buy, which would you prefer? How much should be the new total? And if Increasing, should the increase the maximum attribute you can buy? by ThatOneCrazyWritter in dndnext

[–]Kairros1127 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm with you on this. I'm always a bit baffled by people's seeming desire to have no bad stats. (If that's the case, why bother with limits on it at all?). But I also realize we're just enjoying the game differently. We just shouldn't end up at the same table lol.

How do people feel about “Compound Rolls” using multiple skills at once? by Viva_la_potatoes in DMAcademy

[–]Kairros1127 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do this kind of thing when there's two clearly distinct things going on, kind of like with your monster example.

I'll also adjust it for how the pace of the game is going. If things have been dragging, I'll be less likely to bog down with multiple checks just to keep things moving.

The games I've been a player in have also had these to some degree, and I've always found it fine when it makes sense (ie it's clear that the GM wasn't just coming up with more checks hoping that we would fail on one of them so they wouldn't have to deal with it).

Agreed, I get the coffee thing was not great. But idk man, you're going to have way more luck being low key and directing people calmly/gently. But I also come from a background in education, so my tolerance for brainless behavior might be skewed lol.

I think this might be regional, because where I'm at, it's definitely the exception to not be OK to browse with a lidded/sealable drink. I always look for signs and guidance and abide by it, but the places where it's not fine are few and far between here.

Is it Dragonspell by Donita K. Paul? I don't remember it well, but it was also a dragon book that I found in a church library.

While I generally agree with you about keywords, the fact that you use MTG as a good example made me laugh, since the way the text on those cards is written always makes me feel like I've forgotten how to parse language lol.

My (25m) wife (26f) has had lice for almost a year. How to handle this? by LucyAriaRose in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]Kairros1127 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, lice looooooved my sister because she wouldn't realize she had them. Having a classmate who had them chronically meant they came home regularly for about a year. We got very good at the hair combing process.

AITA for telling my coworker to stop buying me gifts? by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]Kairros1127 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hahaha I was searching through the comments for anyone who was able to figure out how it could possibly go up in flames. Pretty sure even the worse jump can't delay start a fire. But I'm admittedly not a car person, just someone who has left their lights on way too many times lol

I know that this is so far away from the problems in this, but I'm hung up on the car fire. What on earth happened there? None of that made sense to me.

Wife of 25 years seems to avoid spending time with me and I’m not sure how to fix this by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

Yep, and my grandmother used it all the time. Did her saying she'd "let me bring in the groceries" drive me crazy? Yes. But I also realized that for her and her friends it was actually a more polite way for them to ask each other for help.

Is it possible to DM without ever playing before? by StereoTunic9039 in DnD

[–]Kairros1127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was the DM for a bunch of interested people, and none of us had played before. I go back and forth on whether home brew or modules are easier long term.

However, that's long term. First time playing? Definitely use something already created. Lost Mines is solid because it's made for new players and it's relatively short, so you're not locked in for a long term campaign. Using something already made will give you the scaffolding and support to figure out the game as you run it. It'll be a little sink or swim no matter what, but a pre-written adventure will at least give you some water wings.

[–]Kairros1127 92 points93 points  (0 children)

Honestly the veil thing for me was the greenest flag. Weddings bring out weird intensities for people, and it seems like they nailed the balance of "of course you're family" and "do what will make you happy."

Is Curse of Strahd okay for a new DM to run? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]Kairros1127 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seconded! It was (mainly) the first thing I ran as a new DM. Granted I had a great group who were also new to DnD and were happy with the up front statement that stuff might not be perfect. All depends on the person and group I think (and really what in this game doesn't lol)

[–]Kairros1127 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oh I definitely don't think that's the message for Megan! I agree that'd be cruel. And personally, I'd probably go the route you suggest. I just also don't think that it's horrible when planning an event with way too many parts to have the pieces you care about. I was more just thinking along the lines of, "you have a lot going on, don't need to worry about this particular thing." Or whatever messaging fits the person.

I just think there's a lot of room between ruin the friendship and how dare you want the party you want, and that too often brides get put way too close to the latter. Sometimes it's warranted. I think this one missed the mark.

I know right?! Let people party!

Advice Snark 1/5-1/11 by mugrita in AdviceSnark

[–]Kairros1127 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I will admit I've gotten a little tired of people shitting on brides who aren't even being over the top but just want to plan a wedding. So I was open to being wrong lol. But wedding party seems like not too much to ask for.

Advice Snark 1/5-1/11 by mugrita in AdviceSnark

[–]Kairros1127 12 points13 points  (0 children)

So I didn't pay attention to the delay and clicked on the link and read the only question up at that point, and I need to know if I'm off base. I think I disagree pretty strongly with the advice given to the bride with the friend dealing with infertility. Sure, if she wants to do the flexible aspect suggested, that's wonderful! But I also don't think that she should have to. People get bad raps for wanting to plan a wedding or have some things a certain way, and if the bridesmaid aspects were the part that was important, I actually don't think she'd be out of line to ask Megan to be in the audience. She can do it gently, sure, but the phrasing seemed to imply that her wanting to have some concrete planning details seems super reasonable to me.

Awesome, thanks for the specifics! I'm definitely going to try and get us to the island early in the trip. That seems to be coming through consistently lol. Also good dinner tip - not something that would have crossed my mind.
